Hi All,

It's been some time since i last posted. Real life and various other things conspired to pretty much stop dead all hobbying a couple of years ago.

But now I am back.

Recently GW released this:

Although I liked the models, I didn't really think it was worth 100 squids, even with the discount you get from various sites so I didn't bite.
Then I bought the rules and templates online and figured I could use exisitng models but since they al have custome weapons and load outs I figured I would kit bash my own version of these:

Indivudual shots down below
I don't have any nids and decided that instead of buying the models from the box I would try proxies, and I decided to go with Zombies :-)
So now, my kill team are not Deathwatch for the Ordo Xenos but for the Ordo Sepultrum
Zombies are still in the post at the moment but here are close ups of the kill team:

So it's been another long gap but I am still doing stuff, just at a glacial pace.

I was at Salute at the weekend, and someone has finally made a decent (and affordable) alternative to the FW boarding shielld.

So now I can FINALLY build up my assault company as a specialist boarding assault company    :teehee:  :jawdrop: :

Then clone him about 30 times:

gallery_60109_5815_205440.jpg

I have 40 shields, and bits on the way to make 10 Mk8 marines, and that will make the core of my boarding assault force.

However, I now have the issue of how to build a force around these units. There are a few options, vanguard siege assault, tyrants legion retaliators or just vanguard vets with combat shields.

I'm leaning more in the direction of the siege assault as I can take Caestus rams, but not having drop pods doesn't really fit with my Lamenters. I want them to use boarding torpedoes ( converted drop pods) to get to the battlefield.

Although in my head a Tyrants legion force comprised of Lamenters that went bad and are now renegades that use puny humans for cannon fodder does sound quite appealing as well.

Anyone got any other ideas how I can field these guys in a fluffy army?

Till the next time (hopefully not in another year)

Ok, so an update... real progress!

The weekend snowballed a little and I now have 60 marine almost ready for priming. Plus 20 jump marines in parts to be assembled and another 20 foot slogging marines from before that are built and primed. So my boarding company is taking shape.

I even have an excuse to use the boarding marine that forgeworld released a few years back.

So, modelling marines to hold the boarding shields is a right bugger and the majority of my bits box is now depleted of left and right arms.

Some of the models have parts that are already painted...this is because I was trying to be smart and pre spray parts on the sprue before assembly. However I forgot to spray the torsos. Doh.

Should be able to get the rest of these guys done tonight and start spraying them this week.

If my girlfriend is out this week sometime I'll try and lay all of them out....cos then she can't complain about me hogging the table in the lounge.

Cheers

Where is this strangely interesting looking breastplate with the two eagles looking at each other from?

Sincerely,

Velype

Which breastplate are you talking about?

Probably answered... ehm (I hate picking out pictures of a long post  :P) ... post #154, the guy with the combi-bolter and the melta bomb in his hands. :/

Ok, so bad news, no gf free evening this week so a group shot is off the menu this week.

Further bad news is that I've realised I have to paint 40 shields now. I could paint them all yellow/metal and be done with it but I want to make them a bit more diverse. I have come up with the following designs (please excuse my failure to find anything other than a black biro):

gallery_60109_5815_251921.png

I ran out of ideas which is why 2 are still blank, and I'm not sure which of these I will use but I am thinking along the following lines:

1 - pick one design and customise by adding squad markings

2 - pick one design for each squad

3 - pick 3/4 designs and just randomly stick them on

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do want to make use of my renegade lamenters/badab war campaign badge to tie the whole force together. And to me it looks appropriately fluffy so that I can use the force as a siege vanguard army, tyrants legion army and chaos space marines, I have attempted (badly) to draw this on some of the shield designs but for reference it should look like this:

Did I understood it right? Traitor/ evil Lamenters? Honestly I don´t like it that much. I lament the decision if this is the case... :tongue.:

If their onlx chance to be on the winning side to go rogue I´d rather see them further loosing. :dry.:

Velype... I audibly groaned when I read that pun....

I agree. I wouldn't go full on evil Lamenters, I don't see that ever happening. I mean just renegade, and then not the whole chapter just an isolated chunk. My thinking is based on what I have read in the Badab War imperial armour books:

There are up to 100 marines that weren't at Optera when the Minotaurs came knocking.

Lamenters being at the siege of the palace of thorns

A strike cruise called the inflexible disappeared, suspiciously, after a raid.

Everyone scarpered into the maelstrom when palace fell

So this means there are up to 200 lemons unaccounted for in the maelstrom at the end of the war, with maybe a strike cruiser and other small ships.

I was thinking that the guys that were there at the end were slowly changed by their proximity to Huron.....not full on evil but just enough to feel they couldn't go back to the imperium. Maybe all that was left were squad leaders and so they deferred to Huron's leadership. The whole "path to damnation is paved with good intentions" thing.

With that in mind, that's my fluffy reasoning behind using the tyrants legion list.... since I want to field my new boarding marines. And since I've already established, in my own head, a narrative for them being renegade I don't see why I can't use the chaos list; as long as my choices are appropriately fluffy.

I think it's important to remember one factor when moving forward with this project.... The only good Lamenter is a dead Lamenter hehehe

Badab banter aside great to see your return to the hobby. I think the storm Shields provide a great canvas for Lamenters inspired designs. I feel that if you picked a style for each squad it would look far to regimented (although good for gaming id). I would pick a minimal style for your standard type and then sprinkle loads of the others about, differentiating by use of numbers or symbols (blood drops, hearts, chalices). Just my opinion though. I'm sure whatever you choose to do will look cool.

Thanks guys.

Yak... <bants>if you're boys turned up at Badab before the Minotaurs did your job for you, your guys would all want to have yellow armour.</bants> I think you're right, take a few designs and randomly stick them on guys, then add bling depending on what squad they are on.

marcusc, looking forward to see what you come up with.

So time for more porn. My GF was never actually out this weekend so I braved the confused/amused look as I laid all my guys out on the dining table:

gallery_60109_5815_1311628.jpg

So they are ready for priming, then a final addition of helmets/weapons/shoulder pads where needed before the big job of painting them all.

Next step is to assemble 2 regular jump assault marine squads, 3 ironclad dreadnoughts and the rest of the command squad.

I'm also thinking about including a contemptor dreadnought if I can think of a suitably fluffy reason - tough call since they tend to belong to first/second founding chapters only.

Cheers
