Solid Zaku
Watch unrelated miniature painting videos. It's all well and good to see someone's thousandth recipe for NMM, but sometimes it's better to watch someone from a different background give you a different perspective. No, I have no idea what he's saying but, by Terra, it's a fantastic piece. Tanhausen
Hi there! Good advice in here! In my case, I'm more of a player than a painter. The only reason I started painting is that its a GT requirement...and I'm happy I got into it! I'm colourblind, so that is quite a handicap for me...and for a long time I tried to do GOOD paint jobs. But since its frustrating, I've settled that I'd rather have a table top army finished that 10 models WIP of beinga,maybe,could-be... So I think it depends on WHY you paint. Gaming? Just go for your comfort zone. Do 1!!!!! test model with say 1 base colour+ 1 highlight and max 2 colours for detailes (pouches, leather, etc)...AND STOP THERE. If you think "hey, its good enough"...there you go! Put some music or a podcast on and roll it on! Just my thoughts :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253431-painting-burnout-and-how-to-deal-with-it/page/2/#findComment-3086375 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Tanhausen raises a good point and one I don't think is raised often enough. Not everyone can paint to the same standard and there's a reason for "table top standard" being the norm so it is a good idea to recognise your own limitations (time, ability and skill) and reach a compromise between them. For example my eyesight isn't great so I'll never be a great painter which can be very frustrating (especially when I'm trying something new) but I make up for this by trying to develop my skills and investing extra time in painting to try and do the best I can. The fact I don't have much time lately (work is the eternal bane of hobby time!) just means this takes longer than usual. I've recently acquired the new GW painting guide and find it to be very useful, the DVD is a nice addition too so I'm going to try and raise my attempts to a new level. Only you can really motivate yourself so you need to find a goal that spurs you into action. Renoster
Although it may offend those of a more disciplined nature, I stop burnout by having 3 or 4 streams on the go all at the same time! When i get bored with one, I switch to another. This also gives me the perfect reason not to finish the genestealers for my SH, which are considerably less sexy than Moloc or renegade termies. And why I've only played 6 games of SH (the only game i play) in 3 years. Doh.
