Union Jack Space Marines - Help quick please!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee is coming up in England and so I decided to paint one of my space marines in that sort of colour scheme.

I want to go with a colour scheme of the UK flag. Blue, White and Red. So far I have come up with this

sm.php?b62c=@hr3uf_iakk7.ia3hn@@@@@@@_@_@@__@@@@@@@@@@@._._@@@@@@@@@@_hmm6q@@@@@@@@@@@@@__&

So i am still confused what to go with

NB: I still have not painted the aquilla yet.

Thanks,

Vivster

Doesn't exactly scream "UK" to me … if it's just going to be one figure, I would suggest painting the whole figure like a Union flag (it's only a "Union jack" if flown on a specific place on a ship :)). You might want to overlay an image of that flag onto a "bare" space marine illustration to see how it would more or less fit, and try to replicate that on a model.

Agreed, I don't get Rule Britania from your marine at all!

Just paint the flag over the enture body, tactical symbols on shoudlers should be Georges Cross for Tactical marines, Welsh Dragon for Assault, Scottish white cross for Devs and a Guiness for Veterans... :)

Why not just come up with a simple, neutral, colour scheme and then paint in the Union Jack as either a Chapter symbol, or where unit designation goes?

Much more simple and just as effective at displaying the Union Jack.

I would go with replicating this:

Marvels Union Jack

*Edit* and oh I missed this

(it's only a "Union jack" if flown on a specific place on a ship )

That's not strictly true, the UK flag institute (vexillological organisation)

the national flag of the United Kingdom, the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories is the Union Flag, which may also be called the Union Jack
.

The Royal Navy (going back to 1908) dispensed with designating the flag the Jack at specific mastings.

So you can call it the Union Flag or the Union Jack with impunity :)

just do a deathwatch marine with the union flag as the chapter symbol.. wont look like an eyesore that way and the deathwatch are like the sas.. sortve

This. It's the way I would do it (if I wasn't so apathetic about the whole thing). ^_^

If you want the comic book appearance and the Union Jack character linked above isn't quite what you want, you might also consider Captain Britain.

The Captain Britain I remember did not look like that.

Also, Marvel FTW.

Wow so many replies so quickly.

I feel that there has been some misunderstanding with my first post. I mean to say this is what i have painted so far and wanted opinions of what colour to paint next. God i hate my white paint - it is so bad and lumpy and dry!

Anyway, i have Painted my marIne - i am not the best painter in the world but anyway. I am going to put the uk flag on a banner that i will attach to his backpack and on the back of the banner i will paint the queen's mottto. Pics will be coming soon. I have taken your guys opinions and put them into us however since i am not the best pai ter and since i have an ultramarines army, i am not going to be able to paint the union flag pattern on his entire body. After all this is a aobr marine

Completed Finally - Except a bit of the base

Hope you guys enjoy. I am not the best painter so don't be harsh :tu:
