T3mpl@r Crusade
Hey guys! What are some of your most amazing moments of glory? whether a single character carried the day, or a unit slayed through half of someones army, or any other spectacular feats, I'd like to hear them. One happened to me yesterday, I was playing a 1250 pt game against necrons. It was a nasty list, monolith, that very large str9 cannon (which can be built as a transport instead) and other nasties, playing a 5 objective game. There were quite a few feats, but the best one was my opponent deepstriking his monolith (after almost nuking himself in my warp quake zone). I raced my henchmen over to it, and gambled everything one the one man, with a meltagun. It was a moment of glory that will be forever remembered as that soldiers greatest deed. The razorback smashed through a forest and disembarked my henchmen unit alongside the monolith. The man took his shot, hit, penned with a roll of 16, and I rolled a 4, which became a 5 :D The exasperated look on my opponents face was priceless. He had one turn of shooting with that monolith, and the entire game pinned on my ability to kill it right then and there before it ran amok, or for my dreadnight to be able to jump over there and get into assault. glorious. Inquisitor Fox
There's been a couple for me, but one or two of them are memorable. Mostly from Apocalypse battles. In fact thinking about it I'm pretty sure it was the same battle... We were tasked with holding a building, letting Inquisitor Nicole Pyykkonen herself be the scoring unit (Lucky 13's scenario where only psykers were scoring units) shielded by her retinue on the upper floors. Tyrannids were advancing from the right flank and there was an enemy reaver titan on the left side of the board. IST squad 619 was helping hold the line and then the enemy Titan decided to unleash it's missiles across the table and slammed square into my carapace armored ISTs. The AP of the missiles was surely going to wipe them out, and that flank was completely crumbling so shrugging my shoulders I decided to have them go to ground in the wide open nowhere so they'd at least have a 6+ cover save. Sergeant Franklin "Frankie Figgs" Figaro yelled the orders and his men took cover and prayed... When the blast cleared the squad was completely wiped out... save for Sergeant Figaro. Apparently he managed to find the one spot with a rock and lived :) He then proceded to make his leadership check against running, and stayed around for the rest of the battle as a one man squad. He's been around forever and after that moment he's earned a semi-permanent spot in one of my Inquisitor Retinues, dispite the fact that he's more expensive point wise than other options (since he's got a power weapon and a "hellpistol" and carapace armor I have to call him a warrior). Also one of my more nicely painted models. Same battle I believe a Hive tyrant and her escorts are making mincemeat of the rest of the flank. Grey Knights are "northward" dealing with some Chaos forces and landing Necrons (they were allied into my Witch Hunters force), Retributor squad is firing massive amounts of heavy bolters into Abaddon, the Hive Tyrant has been reduced down to one wound remaining but she's about to storm into the building holding Inquisitor Pyykkonen (who with her tablewide psychic hood was already shutting down the entire Tyrannid host) with one more turn of movement and assaulting. So Veteran Seraphim Sister Superior Adelicia drops down with her troops with her plasma pistol and two sisters with inferno pistols. Sadly even at maximum movement I'm just out of inferno pistol range. Fearlessly she raises her plasma pistol, snaps off a single shot, and downs a Hive Tyrant staring her square in the face in a righteous bolt of blue plasma fury. Splurch ;) And yet people always laugh at me for having her with power sword and plasma pistol... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3075375 Share on other sites
Imperial Deceit
My favorite instance actually happened during a 40k in 40 minutes tournament. During a capture the flag mission in the 3rd round I was pitted against some miss-matched vanilla marines, with a whole ton of sniper rifles. My assault squad got picked off in the process of covering my flag swiping bikes, all except for the Sargent who was armed with a storm shield. I sent him to assault his snipers, basically counting him for dead. Instead he ends up surviving almost 30 shots before closing with the nearest scout squad and giving them a sound thrashing. Unfortunately the game ended there while he was mopping up the survivors, so I will never know just how far he would have gone. Because of all the saves he made with that storm shield I renamed him Captain America. the jeske
2500 pts green wave hybrid vs GK cortez build . he cant fit all his models on the table . my turn I kill 1/2 of his army with shoting with cover and everything . he moves up . I kill the rest of his army leaving some HQ alive[because of wound allocation and using rifleman on other stuff] . rest of his army arrives . my turn kill his HQs and half the reserved army units . he wagghs gets in to hth with some units and both his HQs multi charge my first 3x6 puri squads [they were /\/ set up] . fire procs mek with 2 wounds takes two wounds dies . lord with two wounds take two wounds . saves one [dies from to halabards] 2/3 of the boyz die from fire rest die from normal A . Dude quits the game [as in w40k] and decides to start playing legion . It was fun because I used a generic test list and let him use all his FW stuff and the fact that his army was fully painted added a lot to the game [my GK are true grey] . The Paladin
I've had several as well but 2 instances are at the top: 1850 vs. Tyranids - I had a 4-man paladin squad holding the line vs. 4 squads of Termagaunts (58 total). They fire 58 flesh borers (S4) and cause 27 wounds. I make 27 2+ saves. They then assault and cause 17 wounds. I make another 17 2+ saves. That's 44 straight 2+ saves without rolling a single "1". My opponent was speechless. My attacks + his fearless saves (Tervigon was within 12" of them) killed 42 total. Totally reminded me of the scene from "300" when Leonidas and his men were decimating the Persians :) 2000 vs. DeathWing - Tightly contested game. He charged an empty rhino 12" to contest my home objective. I only had a 3-man strike squad w/ 1 psycannon (no justicar) that can potentially deal with it. I move my squad close and estimate that I'm within 3" of my objective. I can either fire 2 psycannon shots and hope to hit and destroy the rhino and even then, hope that I'm actually within 3". So I decide to assault instead. I cast Hammerhand and roll 6 attacks. I manage to hit with a "6". I roll a 6 to pen rear armor. I roll a 5 to destroy the rhino and hold my objective. We roll and game ends--I win the game :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3075579 Share on other sites
shortysl
My greatest moment came about as a result of my own stupidity. It wasn't particularly glorious but amazing to me nonetheless; playing a 3-sided, 2000 points-a-side match against Imperial Guard and Orks, I completely forgot to deploy my Stormraven (with it's cargo of Purifiers and Grand Master) on the board. I'd also left 2 squads of Terminators in reserve, meaning that I had about 1000 points worth of models on the board. Anyhoo, after some really poor reserve rolls I managed to get the Terminators and Stormraven on in the last two turns of the game, and yet by the time the game ended I still had enough models left to guarantee I would've won if the game had continued. That just 1000 points of Grey Knights could survive amid 4000 points of enemies amazed me no end; it's not even like they sat the game out. Although the Orks and Guard were also fighting each other, the Grey Knights truly struck the fear of the God-Emperor into them that day! Myxx
I had a pick-up game against Eldar (I had a split force of my DIY SMs and my henchman) a while back, maybe 2000 pts if I recall. I DS a 6 man tactical termie squad in his backfield near his gravtank/transport. Out pops a full squad of Eldar, I don't know what kind but they can fire an obscene amount of shots and fore-go their next shooting phase. So after rolling like 50 saves, not a single termie goes down. My turn, some excellent stormbolter kills followed by a crushing assault. In 2 rounds, my guys crushed the unit and took their chainfists to his transport. adamv6
I played a 1500point game against Chaos SM's. He had Abaddon and Kahn, a bunch of noise marines, some plague marines (some in TDA) and some khorne berserkers. I feared a good kicking coming, as my only TDA model was a Libby. Turn 1 my 5 psykers conjured up all their powers and dropped a no scatter pie plate on the khorne berskers, killed every last one :) My purg squad then put down 7 sixes in turn one, leaving him with 1 Termie left. The crusher was Abaddon getting hammered with rending shots also and falling before getting into CC. However Kahn cleaned out 6 SS GKs in one turn, but my 4xDCAs sorted him out :) Tabled - turn 4 :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3077058 Share on other sites
Jacinda
I tabled a 1500 point Draigowing in 3 turns not long ago. Not that it is hard to do at those points. Draigo and 9 paladins total in 2 landraiders. I don't usually keep up with games like that because they are really not much fun for either of us. One of my favorite moments with the new SoB rules was shortly after the codex came out and I was trying out all the different units with a few friends. In the Saint Celestin's first game she died 4 time in a 5 turn game. The only res she did not make was the final one. nurglez
I rather foolishly chose to go second vs an alpha strike shrike scout list with my draigo wing at my first ToS event. I also reserved my 2 dk's and 5 paladins, deploying draigo and 10 pallies. Turn 1 comes round, and his whole army focuses on draigo and the boys, after a fair few shots and an assault from shrike, chaplain, 10vanguard, 6 scout bikers and 10 scouts I'm down to draigo and 2 pallies, though I win the combat :D begining of turn 2 and I have left is draigo on 2 wounds (having failed all his invulnerable saves in the previous 2 games). He proceeds to make every single save, despite going through 5-6 rounds of combat, and wins the combat. Gotta love a storm shield when it works :D Was my favorite game of that tournament, losing my deathstar by the end of my first turn can be a slight handicap, and all those scout's hiding in cover proved to me how useful heavy incinerator dk's with personal teleporters are (still over costed though). Winning it was awesome! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3077145 Share on other sites
Stormshadow
I and an Eldar player went up against two Tyranide armies, 2500p per side. At the start of turn two all I had left was Mordrak and Draigo, with only one wound each, and a lone Interceptor with a Hammer. These three models were so far in to the enemy lines as you can be, and they alone killed around 1000pts of Tyranids. At the end of turn seven Draigo and Mordrak were still alive and the sweetest part was my opponents face when I had separated Draigo from Mordrak and assaulted 10 stealers with a Broodlord, they were wiped in like two turns :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3077316 Share on other sites
Fredegar Kadere
The Orders Militant and her temporal allies have had numerous moments and miracles in battle against the foes of the God-Emperor. A select few from the annals of my Order will be made known. Some of the oldest and best remembered would be during my first Apocalypse match. Across the open field of battle stood a line of heavily defended bunkers and a moving wall of commandeered Baneblade tanks. The only forces to stand opposed to those heretical Imperial Fists and Space Wolves was an Inquisitorial Land Raider of the Ordo Hereticus, two squads of Storm Troopers, and a handful of Sororitas Exorcist tanks. The artillery of the opponent rained on the meager Witch Hunter force, wrecking the Land Raider and blasting the Storm Troopers to ruin. To make matters worse two Thunderhawks loaded with heretical Astartes flew through the airspace preparing to descend and disgorge their cargo. In retaliation the Exorcist tanks fired Judgement on the Space Wolf controlled Thunderhawk. Of the twenty six shots launched only one was able to fix on the flying Thunderhawk. It penetrated the main fuselage, causing a chain reaction that blew out all three engines, the engine rupture then sheared off one wing, and sent it into an uncontrolled dive as it broke apart. The debris field went on for miles and no survivors were find. Reports later revealed that the enemy High Command was aboard the Thunderhawk. Of the five Exorcist tanks fielded, only the one that launched that fateful Exorcist missile survived. It was unfortunately shaken before it could deliver a similar blow to the Imperial Fist controlled Thunderhawk. That Exorcist took out a Thunderhawk, its cargo of a Wolf Lord, a Wolf Priest, six Wolf Guard Terminators, five Vanguard Vets with JP, the new IA Shadow Captain, and a SM Captain with JP. It was glorious. During that same battle a Celestian Superior tasked with protecting the Canoness stood in the path of a skimming flat-out Caestus Assault Ram. Raising her Eviscerator overhead and with a word to her God-Emperor she braced herself against the approaching skimmer. Death was not for her that day, only Glory as the Eviscerator shorn through the skimmer and caused it to break up around her. This act prevented the Imperial Fists from claiming the objective, but it was not enough to stop Dorn's Eldar allies from contesting it. A more recent instance occurred in my latest battle with piratical dark eldar on a remote Imperial world. A small squad of dominions took on a squad of Incubi and a wyche cult led by a Succubus. Their flamers proved devastating to the wyches but it was not enough to keep the drugged warriors at bay. The Incubi and remains of the wyche cult assaulted the Dominions, slaying all but the Sister Superior. Gripped by righteous fury and understanding her mission to hold onto the flank, she pulled out her power sword and waded into the Incubi squad cutting the two bewildered warriors down. She was quickly killed from behind by the persuing wyches, but not before dealing out a serious blow to the dark eldar. With the complete loss of the Incubi and the decimation of the wyche cults the Succubus led her meager forces back to the web way portal in haphazard retreat. After the battle the Sister Superior's body was recovered and due to her prowess and sacrifice she was given posthumous inclusion into the Celestian ranks. adamv6
Just today I played a 1000 each team game with a Space Wolves player. We were against a CSM / Eldar force. Not a great mix for us. They got first turn, and at the end of it, I was minus a psyrifle dread. The SW player was missing 4 of his Long Fangs, his Rune Priest, a Rhino and 5 Grey Hunters. Our first turn, I drove my LRR forward, and popped my DCA assault crew out (6 DCAs, 2 Crusaders, 4 Warrior Acolytes). By end of turn 6, that crew was down to 2 DCAs, and had wiped (This makes me grin uncontrollably just writing the list out); 12 Khorne Berserkers 7 Thousands Sons and the Sorcerer 10 Dire Avengers 1 Farseer They just kept hopping for CC to CC. 1 turn the Dire Avengers got to shoot at me, I took all the wounds on the Acolytes and Crusaders. CSM player was heartbroken in Turn1 when I dropped 9 of his berserkers before he even swung a blade :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3078806 Share on other sites
benmothershaw
In the old dex I had an Inquisitor Lord with shooty henchmen, they got charged by archon and 2 incubi, all the henchmen died and the Lord lived. He decides to run away (he actually could decide) My turn he turns around aims his pyscannon (3 s6 shots) and kills archon who failed his 2++ and the 2 remaining incubi. Coteaz and shooty henchmen in the new codex killed archon and 9 incubi in one round of shooting on there own... i was like wow. Sanguinius Chosen Wing
Back in 3rd Ed my pure GK were constantly getting minced by a friends tau ( no terrain :) ) anyway I decided to change my list... Radically ( pause for groans and dramatic effect :P ) So I took two daemon hosts in around a 2500 game and they proceeded to zoom across and just tear face if I remember correctly they took out something like 2000 points themselves or some stupid huge number because we let the game go a few turns longer because our other mates were there ripping into him and he felt like trying to regain some dignity to no avail as the rest of my once waltzed up unopposed taking out stragglers and tying units up till the hosts got there. Grand Master Caloth
a few years ago, at what i believe was my third The Seattle Hearts of Fire Tournament (TSHIFT), still on the old dex. I end up facing a fellow from spokane who brought CSM, and i got the look of "Oh Look, Grey Knights" from the tourny crowd. Was game.... 4 i think. We square off and deploy, and by turn two, Grand Master Maximus, Retinue in tow, have disembarked from the Land Raider Crusaider "Emperor's Wrath" right across from the cursed Abbadon and his minions. Maximus had 7 honored brothers in his retinue, while Abbadon marched with 5 cursed traitor Terminators. With a roar of righteous fury, Maximus and his brothers charged the Traitors, Maximus seizing the opportunity to close with Abbadon in personal combat while his Brothers formed a protective circle, litanies of faith and hatred on their lips. Abbadon's prowess was well known, and though Maximus had consigned his soul to the God-Emperor, the holy Sacred Incense at his hip gave his foe pause against its holy scent, and the Grimoire of True Names hooked to Maximus's Armour was poisen to Abbadon's deamonically possessed blade. As the first blows were struck, the fickle daemon-weapon, in pain from the nearness of it's own True Name in wirtten form, writhed and struck, not at Maximus, but at Abbadon, railing against it's imprisonment! The distraction, however brief, proved fatal. With eyes blazing with the Holy Energies of the Emperor and an uttered curse against the darkness, Maximus drove his Force Weapon through Abbadon's chest, snuffing his soul back into the warp. Weakened and tired, Maximus exhorted his Brothers to ever-greater heights of glory, even as they fell, overwhelmed by the collapsing Chaos line. As the battle drew to a close, with his Retinue battered, wounded or dead, Grand Master Maximus, himself near death, stood victorius over a mound of enemy fallen, the Aegis runes of his armor blazing white even as the adamantine was torn and rent. Victorious, he called for extraction for his men, his fallen brothers, and himself. (My GM and his retinue, by the end of the game, accounted for nearly 3/4 of his army, including two squads of summoned deamons, a squad of terms, 2 troop squads, 3 oblits, and abbadon. I saw him again at the last TSHIFT before i deployed, in March, and he pulled his buddy over and said "This is the guy who destroyed my chaos list that year. He's part of why im started GKs". was a huge boost to my ego that he says its the best game he has ever had, even tho he lost. I cant agree more!" *Furyou Miko
I've got a few... Apocalypse is good for these moments. The first one was on Stompa release day. In turn 1, my Seraphim+Palatine jumped in behind the Stompa and proceeded to do nothing. The stompa (and the enemy army) promptly ignored them. Shooting phase, turn 2. Seraphim shoot twice because they didn't move, leading to 4 twin-linked melta shots and 2 BS5 melta shots at under half range. The Stompa proceeds to go Apocalyptic, and wipes out every other model on the table except for a lone Exorcist just the other side of the wall from it. I don't use Seraphim much any more. They never get to see two turns on the board after that. The other one that springs immediately to mind is the first time I played Laevantine. For those who haven't glanced at the Homegrown Rules section recently, Laevantine is a Sororitas Baneblade conversion with an Inferno Gun in the turret and Heavy Flamers and Multi-meltas everywhere. I got to deploy Laevantine pretty much slap bang in the middle of the table, with my other assorted Rhinos and Immolators arrayed off to the left, holding down that flank while the rest of the Imperial forces deployed in the larger right-hand half of our deployment zone (diagonal deployment with 6" no-man's-land either side of the centreline). Turn 1, both Tau armies on the xenos side of the field basically obliterate my entire army except for a lone Scout Sniper, and Laevantine which they were ignoring for the time being. In turn two, roughly 4k points (I believe it was 2k points per player, but it might have been 3k) of Tau open fire on Laevantine, as they've left themselves with no other targets. This includes something like eight Railgun hammerheads and at least four full squads of Broadsides, and they didn't skimp on the markerlights either. Laevantine... survives without a scratch. This is before Sisters got invulnerable saves on everything. Laevantine did pretty nothing for the entire game because the enemy kept everything valuable well out of its' 18" threat radius (and the board was too cluttered for it to really move), but just the fact that it weathered a turn and a half of that much firepower makes it worth mentioning (although it did end up being eaten by Genestealers... which is what happens every single time it sees the field. ^^; ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/253453-glorious-mvp-moments/#findComment-3080328 Share on other sites
