A couple of beginner questions about inquisitors

Hey guys, I'm pretty new at 40k, and I'm starting up a GK army as soon as I get the funds, I've already got Draigo and 2 paladin squads, but I've come across a couple of things I need cleared up upon reading the codex.

1. Is there an actual model for Inquisitor Valeria, or do you simply get an inquisitor and treat it as Valeria, similiar to justicar thawn? She has some pretty good equipment it seems, even if some of it is a once per game use limit.

2. For the Ordo Malleus Inquisitor HQ unit, is it possible to take a daemonblade in addition to terminator armour, or are you locked into the termie choices for gear if you take the armour? If it's not possible, is there a general consensus about how useful a daemonblade is? I see the abilities it comes with and it seems really good for such a cheap unit if you can pair the right powers together for the blade. Thanks!

no model and no she desnt not have good gear , neither is she point cost efficient . In fact she is a very very very very bad HQ. you want an inq for something else then cheap psycannon or carring around your Rad etc take cortez.

inq bad in hth . hth upgrades for units bad in hth are bad + wasting points.

low I low A units that can be singled out in hth are never good , double that when their weapons have random effects.

The advice of the jeske is good if you're looking for a highly optimized army. I'd like to tell you to just chase your dreams and play the HQ you like, but it really depends. If you don't intend to play with highly competitive people, no worries. Just be wary. If you want to roll an inquisitor, it's probably wise to keep the points cost to a minimum because it's not a durable model.

My current list I'm working on painting for when my children let me actually play is running two generic Inquisitors and their retinues, with two Chimeras. The theory is a collection of Inquisitors have rolled up on a force, and are calling teleporting/deep striking Grey Knights for firepower and assistance. You can definitely do it. It may not be as hugely in your face competitive as some lists or viewpoints but it's certainly valid. Your friends will probably appreciate you for playing around too because many people feel (with some decided evidence) that the Grey Knights Codex has the potential to be abused into overpowered and near impossible to win against.

It is my viewpoint that we are in a remarkable position to simply have FUN and toy with units, and still have a decent army. By all means pick something fun for you! Go for it, play around, make neat models and throw them down on the table. There's no real "bad" choice for us, there are varying degrees of good ones. Well, except the psilencer...

As far as your questions go, you cannot give an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Terminator armor a Daemonblade. Once in Terminator Armor he is stuck with those options alone. The Daemonblade can be effective, but it is also unpredictable. Bear in mind an Inquisitor is only human, and will never be as effective in combat as say a Grand Master or Brother Captain. That's just the way it goes. You CAN have a highly effective retinue with DCA's, Crusaders, even Arco-flagellants and Banishers escorting that Inquisitor (who can Hammerhand the lot) and it WILL hurt things. A min-maxing approach might tell you there are more effcient ways to spend points, but are they necessarily more fun? I would say play for fun and what you want to play with :D

There is currently no model for Valeria. You would have to customize her. There are several female Inquisitors, and I've seen conversions based off of Eldar bits as well. You could probably do something with some clan Escher models from Necromunda as well. Personally I prefer generic characters as I have more freedom to invent a person and model them and paint and play models that are "mine". That's how I roll though, and I will readily admit that I do not have the most highly customized army list in existance. I have one that's fun for me and I take pride in :(

OP, unless you're planning to be a massively competitive player then ignore pretty much everything above. If you want to enjoy your Grey Knights (welcome, by the way), and you like the look of Valeria, then take her. Thereisn't a model out at present but there are some female Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor models available so just use one as a counts-as Valeria.

My personal opinion on Daemonblades is that they can end up with some pretty useless powers if you're unlucky, making it difficult to assign the Inquisitor a specific battlefield role (Daemonic Feud is a bit rubbish if you're not fighting Daemons for example), but if you don't mind randomness then it's all good.

They'll probably make one at some point. If you can, I'd recommend picking up some of the old Inquisitor models from the prior era (DH/WH boxes), as they had cool retinue models as well. As others have suggested, some Eldar bling on her wouldn't go astray, maybe some DE stuff too (given her blade is of that origin)

Nope, only the most pure get TDA, dirty Radicals have to make do with carapace or power armour. Not a huge deal though, dual Daemonblades are hilarious but not overly effective. Malleus Inquisitors get most of the cool gear anyway, what with psycannons, TDA and powers. Xenos are mostly about grenades, Hereticus are completely and utterly worthless, even from a 'fun' standpoint.

Inquisitors that aren't named 'Coteaz' are a sub-par choice by definition, so loading one up with gear like daemonblades or TDA doesn't overly matter. You can still build a good army besides Inquisitor GenericFace, just don't expect him to do much. In smaller games, given how cheap Inquisitors are, it's not overly important; in larger games, not taking amazing utility HQ's like the Librarian, Coteaz or Grandmaster will severely limit your options.

Also just remember because the Internet says it is the best build it doesn't necessarily mean it is. They are often really easy to use and simple to follow and will serve you well but those who really look at the units and figure it out themselves are the ones that are often the best players and the front runners for Internet list builds

Valeria is awesome.

Especially if you model the Hyperstone Maze as an orb, the top half of which is red, and the bottom half of which is white, with a black line around the 'equator' and a white dot on the side facing the enemy.

It took me a couple of seconds to figure out what you were talking about, followed by quite a chuckle
