RayJ's Platinum Angels get a facelift

After working on an Ulthwé themed Dark Eldar force for several months (heresy, I know), I'm back into the swing of Space Marines, and I'm preparing my DA Successors for 6th Edition and some other upcoming tournaments. I've discovered a new art style that I like, so I'm going all in as I work on my power-armored forces, which have been mostly unpainted for a long time. All my vehicles are getting the facelift, and I have 5 of them finished before the start of this thread. My Deathwing and Ravenwing models will not be getting updated for now, but also will only need some minor work to update once I get around to it. Vehicles and the before now unpainted greenwing are where the real work is needed.

This post will function as an index, and I will keep it updated as I finish new models for ETL and other projects.

Pre-ETL Models (Complete)

Terminator Librarian (Complete)

Standard Marine & Sergeant (WIP)

Company Veterans (Complete)

Terminator Librarian

First model out of the bath for ETL. Easiest to get ready since it was metal. He used to be painted to the chapter's colors instead of like a standard Librarian, and I wanted to change that. Notice the custom resin base from Iron Halo, being used by the whole army.

Primed with Army Painter Matte Black, and a couple thin coats of Altdorf Guard Blue. I made sure all the armor plates had a solid coverage, and made sure to thin out and/or wipe off the paint that got into the details so it wouldn't interfere with future steps. My first layer is always the sloppiest. Future steps will be done with the Detail and Fine Detail brushes for precision.

You'll notice the lack of the large book piece on the Librarian's back. I wanted to make sure the fancy details didn't make the model too much bigger than the standard terminators. We are going to rely on the color difference to make him stand out from the army.

These models were done within the last couple of weeks, but before I made my vow. Going for a medium to high tabletop standard on the look, with bold accents.

Updates on the Terminator Librarian are coming soon.

Agree with Stobz on the green. It's a strong color, and compliments the darker and metallic tones really well. While it's not a bright shade, the fact that the green you picked is so much lighter than the other primary colors actually does brighten up the models and make the scheme feel much lighter than it is. You've also done well with the amount of the green--it's got just enough to do the job without being overbearing.

Kick ass!

That's a really striking colour scheme RayJ, love the depth on the green.

Just a question though, what codex are you using?

I jump around between codices a lot. Right now I've been messing around with Blood Angels to give myself some more time with armor and a break from mass Deathwing.

I've been painting on the Librarian all day and am close to completion with lots of photos, but I don't have my transfer cable right now as I am at the game store. Expect some more pics tomorrow.

Wow, loving the pair of dreads - they look mean as....

I like your painting style, the agressive highlighting really will make them pop on the table which is something the standard DA paint scheme can have trouble with I think. It's that that makes me want to add a small successor group my my DA force once it gets a bit bigger... Or I might just go back and line highlight everything to high heaven with Scorpion Green :)

Will go and check out your vow to see what else you've got for us to look forward to!

Here's a couple of my first-run test models to get the scheme right. Camera-phone wasn't behaving anywhere near as good on these images as the last ones, and the flash off the standard marine hides a lot of his shading due to the metallic paint. Probably should have chosen one with an Aquila, but this should serve a little bit of a glimpse at the overall paint scheme.

Veteran Sergeant (arms are magnetized and not yet painted)

I do have to say, I'm sad that the new metallic paints aren't as smooth as the old ones. I really liked the smooth Mithril Silver look a little bit more than the Runefang Steel

Here's some pics of the veterans in progress. These 10 are painted and based, but still missing arms. I'm gonna get the rest of the models to this stage before working on the arms. There's also some minor touchup stuff I will do to these guys, but from playing distance I like how they are looking.

Not the world's best pic, but I was in a rush this morning and didn't get a chance to lay everything out yet. This is the army image as of Friday. It's still missing 2 dreads, a predator, 4 attack bikes, and 2 more razorbacks for completion. Will be using the army at the ATC on July 14/15.

Closing in on the ETL Vow. Here are 25 of the 30 total marines I put forward. Basically 6 bolter tacs to go, one of which is sporting a Chainsword and Bolt Pistol in this image. This means all 3 Company Veterans squads are complete for the vow.

Added with the Terminator Librarian, I have completed 620 out of 970 points for the ETL. Finishing those last 5 guys and the 6th bolter will give me another 200, which should be done by the end of the week.
