New Space Marine Chapter

Recommended Posts

After painting the Ultramarines for quite some time, I got bored of them and wanted to paint a orange space marine chapter

This is what I have come up with for the basic marine

sm.php?b62c=@i58W2_i8khi.haLvy@.@@@@@h6RtP@iakk7@@__@@@@@@@@hnJGj@@_hbUGd_@@@@@@@@@@@hk96RhidiC@@@@@@@@@@.@@hYbiBiakk7&

For veterans

sm.php?b62c=@i58W2_iakk7.haLvy@.@@@@@h6RtP@_@@i8khii8khi@@@@@@@@_@@_hbUGd_@@@@@@@@@@@hk96RhidiC@@@@@@@@@@.@@hYbiB_&

and for terminators

tsm.php?hdt=ED3305&hdm=FFFFFF&hdl=FFFFFF&ey=05DAED&er=ED3305&pi=9C9998&nk=ED3305&cht=ED3305&ch=ED3305&abs=ED3305&bt=ED3305&btd=A3A2A2&cod=ED3305&ull=ED3305&lk=ED3305&lll=ED3305&lft=ED3305&url=ED3305&rk=525050&lrl=ED3305&rft=ED3305&sl=0524ED&sli=ED3305&sr=ED3305&sri=ED3305&ula=ED3305&lel=ED3305&lla=ED3305&lh=ED3305&ura=ED3305&rel=ED3305&rla=ED3305&rh=ED3305&eg=EDAB05&sk=DB8C02&rta=ED3305&lta=ED3305&lhd=FFFFFF&rhd=FFFFFF&ct=D6BA85&cts=DBD4B4&camh=000000&camb=8F8888&cams=000000&caml=ED0000&brc=A6A6A6&rb=4F4C4C&gr=FFFFFF&bg=FFFFFF&

Colours look a bit differnt

Should I change anything - perhaps make it all orange perhaps

Any comments and crticism accepted.

Post below what you think it should look like

Also I cant think of a name for them

I'm thinking Solar Warriors

or Blazing Hunters

Also a question about the these two guys

I like it. Blue always looks great as a spot-colour for orange minis, so I'd stick with that. Of the names, I prefer Blazing Hunters, but it might be an idea to hold off naming them until you have some fluff for them - if you're going down that road. As for the chaplain and librarian models, it's entirely up to you. Some people pain their chaplains/librarians mostly black/blue and use the chapter's main colour as a spot-colour. Personally, I play Black Templars and (when I get him) my apothecary will be mostly in black armour, but with white helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hands (but not fingers) and kneepads. My tech-marine will be similar, but red instead of white. Only other thing I'd suggest is that I personally think the terminators would look great with blue helmets...

I think you are off to a good start. It will be imperative that you pick an orange that accomplishes what you want from a color, but doesn't look too much like Blood Angels. I realize that the BA's have gotten a bit darker in their old age (post-2nd), still my first impression was of BAs.

I like the idea of different colored shoulder pads, have you considered a bone or cream color? It would nicely accent the orange and give you some opportunity for your chapter symbol to stand out.

Orange is one of those ambitious colors that can look just breathtaking on the table. For some interesting portrayals of the power of orange, you might look up Kurgan the Lurkers vulture marines or Doghouse's orange marines, both of which are excellent examples.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of these painted.

Cheers,

I've been thinknig of doing some Blood Drinkers similar this - back in RT they were officially red-brown, but they could get pretty light (the coloured in drawing on the side of the RTB01 box had them as basically orange), 2nd edition described them as being closer to the Ultramarines, but I've been playing around with mixing the editions going by the original Mk7 Ultramarine scheme from first edition wherein the company colour went on the right foream and the squad colour (light blue for tactical, dark blue or violet for assault and yellow for devastator) went on the shoulderpad:

Thanks guys for the responses. Quick update what colour should the helmets for my veterans be because i want the light blue eyes to stand out in them. Because I want white helmets for my terminators, so I might have to go with blue or

Also for the Sergeant I don't like painting faces so i am trying to find helmets for both my chaplain and the librarian which I mentioned in my first post. Any suggestion would be helpful. I am thinking of painting a white stripe down the middle of my Sergeant's helmet to show he is the leader.

Cheers,

Vivster

I will have finished my tactical squad by the end of this month, just need to get two exams out of the way first.

By the way if anyone wants to try this orange scheme, this is how I did it with the new GW paints.

I spray painted Jakaero orange as my base paint on my black undercoat

Then I gave the whole model a reikland fleshshade wash

Then I lightly drybrushed the top of the model and where the light will hit with kindleflame (does not do that much)

Then I layer with Troll Slayer Orange, still leaving the wash in the recesses

Then I edge highlighted with Fire Dragon Bright

Hope it helps :P

  • 1 month later...

Finally my first Orange Space Marine is Done

Hopefully the first of many - he is a member of Tactical Squad Predator of the Blazing Hunters

Any comments and advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

NB: There are some issues I encoutnered while painting him, and that is what colour should I paint his aquilla and left shoulder pad trim. The right shoulder pad trim is gold; complementing the blue. Also I think since I primed him in the rain, the surface I painted on was a bit uneven, but hopefully that should give him a battered look. Also how would you guys recommend painting his cork basing.
