Multi Chapter Terminators for Space Hulk

Hi,

I've returned to painting in the last year after seeing the range of models on offer, especially the SH terminators. I don't play the game other than SH so have decided to paint up lots of teams for our house rules! I'd be grateful for any advice and tips on how to improve. All I got from the painters at my local GW was 'the weapons aren't codex and the bases aren't legal...'

I've put up a gallery as it seemed easier than posting photos in a thread, a skill I'm still trying to perfect (so please excuse me if the post is photo less initially or the links or U/S)

In the first post, your third and fourth links appear to lead to the same picture. The Ultramarines' white helmets seem to be a little flat, but white's a pain so completely understandable :)

I would appreciate a relabelling, however. All the first ones are minotaurs, the second post has an ultramarine squad, then the last minotaur picture again, then the two captains. That's not how it's labelled :pinch:

Grotsmasha/Jono,

thanks mate, they went through a whole range of colours before I settled on the metallic. Painting the detail on them was a chore, because, as I've now realised, my brushes had worn and were as useful as asparagus. I'm going to go over them again. I think Firedrakes should be terrifying to behold, and the pussers helmets just weren't getting it done.

Read your true scale project. Awesome. You're highly skilled!

I have got to know what you mixed or where you bought those metalic colours (specifically the red and green). They are excellent, I love the quality and look of these. They aren't just a "cookie cutter" contest quality great, they are great quality AND individual and different.

The old Skull White is a bit tempermental, at least my pot is. On one hand, it's watery enough to play with but still well within strong colours. On the other hand, it took a few coats.

At any case, if the new one is like cement, just mix a little water from your watering pot.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Shamrockius, the metallics are Tamiya TS-18 for red and TS-20 for the green over a chaos black undercoat. Not to everyone's taste for sure but i really like the result. I love the industrial look to 40k but I wanted these squads to look like honour guards or elites within an elite. Sometimes to my eye when everything is grim some of the detail fades away and the detail on the SH termies is so exceptional I had to try and use a bright scheme. I still find bits of detail to paint on them now. The Firedrakes are still incomplete, there is plenty of detail to pick out still. If you want any more pics i can post here, in my gallery or send you some. The coverage of the paint is very good with quick sweeps and the red especially left the occasional interesting shadow or recess. Let me know.

I try and make all my models distinct. They all have a story within my limited knowledge of the fluff and there's never going to be hundreds of them so I feel like I should spend the time to individualise each one. I'm working on Deathwatch and Petrificus termies right now and burn through bits like nobodies business getting them to look a bit different. I'll post back here as I go on.

DA Thirst, I have the old white cement/paint. Hoping a new one will go on easier but I definitely need to up my white and yellow skills.

We ALL need to work on our white and yellow skills :tu: I may be giving you tips, but I think while I may be better in those areas than you, you're better in the other areas you've displayed. I wish I could make my metallics look like that
DA Thirst, please, tip away! That's why I'm here, to glean info to make me a better painted and maybe help others in the process. I'd recommend the loud Tamiya metalllics to anyone who wants a hard vibrant coat. They're definitely not for the grimdark lovers. The Ultras are also painted using it. Ive had some people wrinkle their noses at it because they don't think it's 'real' painting, and i understand what they're driving at, but I'd rather get my base in place and spend time on my details then slog through burning up my limited attention span and time. I want my SH models to be loud and spark conversation!

My attempt at Asterion Moloc. Model was extremely bitty, and needed a heck of a clean before painting, admittedly not my forte. Once he was done though I had to retouch my Minotaurs to be worthy to stand along side him. They were one of my original squads, and not very good.
