Quick question about New Forge World Minis

Recommended Posts

Hi Brothers,

I'm entertaining buying the Apothecary and Space Marine mk IV Command Set from Forge World but I have a quick question about new Forge World Mini's or more specifically the resin they're made of. While browsing a well known auction-sale-based website recently I cam across pictures of the Tartaros Terminators that appeared to show them on sprues rather than blocks of resin. These sprues looked scarily similar to the ones from the Citadel Finecast range. Has anyone bought new mini's from FW recently? The last model I bought from them was a Crassus before christmas last year and that was 'real' resin... Are they still using 'real' resin or are my fears to be confirmed and has Forge World shifted to 'finecast resin'?

any help will be gratefully appreciated :)

cheers

I recently bought the Tartaros terminators and the resin they use on them is very similar to the one GW use for their Finecast range. The Tartaros models suffer from the same problems as GW's Finecast, airbubbles, parts that haven't been fully formed and the resin is more rubbery than the usual FW resin. However, I'm not sure about the new Apothecaries and Command set, I've seen some photos in someone's log and they seemed to be made from the old style resin.
I have heard that Forge World uses a resin that is similar to finecast but also noticeably different, like it is a mix of their usual stuff and finecast. From the same source, he stated their resin quality has improved, being the masters of resin they found the perfect formula for resin.
I have the new apothecary models and they came on the block style gates. I also have the event Adeptus Arbite and Skin Wolf. They did come on sprues and, while theyre softer resin than the more brittle Apothecaries, they are a different feeling material to the Finecast. All are cast just fine, especially compared to my experiences with good old Finecast!

Thanks for your feedback and information guys, I really appreciate it. I love the mini's I just don't particularly want to drop 40 odd quid on 'finecast' from FW. I'm not a Finecast hater, I just don't have the highest opinion on it based on my experiences with it :P.

cheers
