Losing Faith

I play GK. I was playing GK before the new codex and models. Right now I have 3K worth of GK and my playing group hates them. Just like they hate my 11K worth of BA, and my 7K worth of IG which has enough arty and big guns to make anyone cry and wimper.

When the boys bitch and cry and call cheeze... I laugh, and laugh. Really, I do, since I was the last one to get into the game and went IG cause everything else was talken. And that was 4th edition IG.... they did not cry then, but smirked and laughed. Now... it's my turn.

I say don't get mad or upset. When they start howling about how cheezy your army is, just laugh... then crush them.

Just my 2 cents.

I feel for you bro, because I was heavily debating doing an Alpha Legion Count-As Grey Knight army for such a long time...Until I started hearing people hate on the army and by association, hate on me. I wasn't going to do anything over the top, I just wanted to do some sneaky gits painted in blue and green that ran around as the elite of the elite (because they are :woot:)

But I've been quite discouraged from doing that due to the hatewagon of...ohhhh I'd say just about everyone. Hopefully with 6th's dawn coming soon, we may yet be okay to play how we like.

Until then, I would say it's YOUR army and you should play it like you want to. But don't laugh at people and then crush them with it, because then your just an ass and prove them right. Prove to them that it's still JUST a game and play your army different than the ROFL-STOMP that the Greys are capable of. maybe play the not-optimized version of your army instead and people shouldn't be as bad. Good luck my friend

In the end, this is an expensive (both in time and money) hobby, and therefore people have no right to complain about the models you choose to buy, build and paint using your own money and time. As long as a player doesn't exploit a "glitch" in the rules, and plays like a good sport, IMO they can't be criticised. GW write the rules, if certain players wish to object to the nature of said rules, encourage them to take it up with GW by writing a letter to their games developers.

Every army I play* has been (and sometimes still is) called 'cheesy', 'OP', etc. All you can do is just wait for the next "OP" codex to be released and the flack will shift from you to them. Those who continue to complain tend to be those who are losing to your army, no one ever calls an army OP or a list 'broken' after they trounce you.

*Blood Angel, Tyranids, and Imperial Guard... people always complain about my guard, just because they aren't the 40k whipping boy anymore.

no one ever calls an army OP or a list 'broken' after they trounce you.

So true. To keep on topic however, I will say this to the OP; if you've spent the money on the models, you should really think twice about abandoning the army based on the ridiculous ideas of a small number of tiny-minded people. Keep the faith brother, you're better than that.

By the way, I too suffer from depression so I know what it can get like. Just remember, when the s**t starts to fly, all you need is an umbrella :)

It's happened. I've finally succumbed to Internet Hate. If I read one more thread, comment or blog post on any site slagging off GKs, I think I'll quit playing/painting them. I've been called a powergamer, band-wagoner and other names that deserve a :tu: emoticon.

And then there's the fluff- the terrible, atrocious fluff. My beloved Daemonhunters now are carving their names into Mortarion's heart and are all incorruptible, but some are moar incorruptible than others. When I bought the GK Codex (In September last year, I was late, I know) I hadn't really researched on the Internet, so that my first impressions wouldn't be biased. I'll admit, I knew that it was by Matt Ward, but the worst I expected was the GK being saved by the Ultramarines, or something similar. This was a whole new level of fail.

But I busied myself, bought the new models, carried on, and then it started. Wherever I go, Purifiers, Psyflemen & Draigo. And then the constant compaining that would inevitably follow. Now I'm a depressive, and I get more stressed about these little things than other people. So my question to you- does this sort of thing affect/annoy you? Or do you not care? And if you do, how do you deal with it?

Hey Hawk, I'll start off by saying that my response will be wordy, as I tend to ramble on sometimes.

First and foremost, don't let people get to you. I have been playing Blood Angels since 3rd Edition, I adapted the models I already purchased to 5th edition. I get weird looks from people when I unpack my BA and use Death Company and Tactical Squads, everyone is expecting Razor spam and assault marines. Truth is I only have one full assault squad that I switch between VV and RAS when I have points to kill. I STILL got accused of bandwagoning, and as others have mentioned with their models, I proceded to shut them up by pulling out my 3rd ed Furioso and Death company models.

People will complain, whine, and whine some more if they can't figure out a way to beat you. I will play devil's advocate, there are some rather overpowered units in the GK codex, Psyfle dreads among them, this doesn't stop me from using them though. My friends, my core playgroup, adapt to my lists and have beaten me plenty of times.

I concocted my GK list just sitting at home one night eating dinner and flipping through the new 5th ed. GK dex. Since the Daemonhunters dex I'd always wanted an army of GK that was just footslogging knights and dreads, so that's what I built. I went with the psyfle's because for their cost I was able to have a fun, shooty 1500 list. Ordered the models, built, and continue to play the same list. Does the list have power, yes; the psyfle's and assassin do lots of damage and that usually offsets and beats first-timers fighting my list. My list doesn't change though, so my friends adapted and have beaten my list.

Have fun with the game, build your army how you want to, I never look at any army builds to construct mine. My next project is 1750 of Imperial Guard after 6th Edition comes out, using Death Korp of Krieg Models. You can bet that I'll buy what I think looks the coolest and make my army fun in my eyes, even if it's crap or godly on the table. That's what I did with Blood Angels, that's what I did in 40 minutes while eating dinner for my Grey Knights, and that's what I'll do for the Death Korps of Krieg.

As for the fluff... I stick to the Black Library books for the most part, those haven't steered me wrong yet. I generally steer clear of Matt Ward stuff because I've heard the horror stories on here.

</my two cents>

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I also use the old BA Honour Guard of Tech Adept, Apothecary, Banner Bearer, and two generic power sword marines. Not price efficient, not very powerful, but their gold leading the charge makes me happy inside, and that's what matters.

no matter what, play the army because it sings to that little part in your heart that feels, were they real, you would be found worthy to join their ranks. Play them because you can see the fluff as real and could stand for what they stand for. this goes for ANY army, in any system.

*steps off the soapbox and goes back to work, deployed in Afghanistan*

Sorry, best piece of advice I've ever heard on these bloody forums.

Stay safe mate.

OP, think of the words of these detractors as the whispered lies of the Chaos Gods. They seek to make you turn from the Emperor's light and renounce your vows as the Imperium's true protector! Reinforce your Aegis brother, and know that in these hallowed halls, the battle brothers of the Grey Knights will always stand beside you!

*Raises Force Halberd in salute*
