Drahazar
I read the decent of angles, fallen angles and almost done with angles of darkness. I really enjoyed the books might pick up the army but how do they play and are they supposed to have a lot of plasma I did not see it in the books. EPK
I read the decent of angles, fallen angles and almost done with angles of darkness. I really enjoyed the books might pick up the army but how do they play and are they supposed to have a lot of plasma I did not see it in the books. No offense, but this almost comes off as trolling... Maybe it just seems like an odd question. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though. I don't believe the black library stories are a good gauge of how an army plays - you should browse the codex to get a better idea. The first two stories you named even take place pre-heresy and therefore are much different than modern Dark Angels. Are the DA supposed to have a lot of plasma? That's debatable. Do they have a lot in the current codex? No more than any other marine army. As for how they play in a nutshell, Deathwing (1st company terminators) and Ravenwing (2nd company bikes and speeders) are their strong suit possibly with some heavy support. Check out the army list section. Regular power armor wind up being somewhat subpar to Codex:Space Marines due to point cost. On a side note, if you want to continue reading DA fiction, for heresy-era stories, check out "Call of the Lion" in the Tales of Heresy along with "Savage Weapons" in Age of Darkness and "The Lion" in Primarchs. For modern timeline Dark Angels look into "The Purging of Kadillus". Candleshoes
The plasma useage vs. fluff is mainly the idea that they are the oldest Legion and thus have access to the oldest tech. Access to Mortis Pattern dreadnauts and infantry portable plasma cannons were a way of showing that on the table top, but with all the Forgeworld stuff coming out, there is a lot more choice to show that venerable nature. Brother-Chaplain Nemiel
The codex dark angels was the only SM chapter which could equip PKs in their tactical squads when the book was released....but SM had 2 dexes since then iirc, now any marines tacticals can get PKs as well, id say nowadays DA are inferior to any other marines dexes! About Fallen angels/Luther, im not expecting that theyll make a appearance ruleswise...its not like the galaxy is full of fallen angels, we had like 10k years to hunt em down all! There was a Cypher model in an old CSM(4th edition iirc) which could be included in CSM or IG armies Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254036-so-i-read-some-books/#findComment-3083414 Share on other sites

MadDoc
I read the decent of angles, fallen angles and almost done with angles of darkness. I really enjoyed the books might pick up the army but how do they play and are they supposed to have a lot of plasma I did not see it in the books. You didn't see it in the books because its not actually a characteristic of the DA, its an imagined trait that some insist on pushing based on one aspect of Jervis' poor fix to the 3E DA 'dex (Plasma Cannons for Tacticals), and at the moment thats all it is. Though knowing GW and their current trend of going overboard that may well change, hopefully not though. Brother-Chaplain Nemiel
As i told my friend of my vow and that the chappi has a PP and the VSgt a PP+PW...he said somethig like: What is it with DAs players and their overuse of plasma? Must be genetical  i agreed with him that it aint very cost effective pointwise, esp on characters with tend to end up in CC very soon in the game, 15 points for shooting it 1-2x hmmm....but what the hell, my chappi looks awesome with his PP, hes my best looking powerarmor non-IC-model ever!! And i have easily 500 marines :o Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254036-so-i-read-some-books/#findComment-3083451 Share on other sites
cernunnos
A while ago now, in the earlier stages of Project:Unforgiven, we came up with a themes document to try and put down on paper a rough consensus as to what participants felt were the key traits of the chapter and their fighting style. This was produced following a rather long discussion, and as with such things, not everyone agreed with the final document. It is a decent summary though and perhaps worth a quick read. There was an accompanying document when this was being prepared which went into more detail about the discussions, citing supporting quotes but I have misplaced that at the moment. The document can be found in the Unforgiven Rules Development sub-forum as a sticky titled "Project Unforgiven Themes Document".
