Templar Order Wip EC Update

Okay so I've been on here for a short time now. I've posted some battle reports, and spoken my 2 cents a few times in other discussions. What I haven't done is taken the time to show what I have or the sadly lacking amount of painted minis in my army. (I have a little over 5k points i believe, and only a handful of painted ones) My army currently uses the rules for C:SM. In time however I will probably switch over to BT. With them supposedly getting a new codex sometime soon-ish though I'd rather wait until that comes out before I learn their play style, rather then buy the new codex, and have to just relearn it when it changes.

Another downside is I do not have many pics of my new stuff so that will be added in at a slightly later time. (Also some of my older pictures aren't very good)

I plan on getting some more painting work done since I have rounded my army out a lot better then it used to be. It will still be some time before I can really get a lot painted but I sure will try.

Anyway for now I will post the pictures I have of my army. Hopefully I can get some pics of my whole army and what little i have painted.

The early pictures did not have enough room to get a decent picture and the white light i had available tended to flicker ever so slightly so the color changed a bit. I will get some good shots maybe later today and post those up. For now though this is what I have pictures of. (Although I have made a couple slight changes to some of them)

I will also try and set out a guideline for what I am going to be painting next. That's all for now fellow battle brothers.

Maybe, the Knights part of the name will not change since a large part of the fluff coincides with it, and the Knights Templar were originally based off the obvious Templars from the crusades. Not sure I like Azure but I am open to suggestions.

I will post my armor at a later date as I do have a few things to finish amongst them and I am getting a crusader from a friend. When he finally remembers to bring it. (Also waiting to post them since there seems to be a limit to how many pictures can be in a post. So waiting seems like a smarter choice then double posting)

 

That's all the units I have that I actually use in games. The exact list changes and I am adding quite a bit in the way of armor and FA options now that most of my options are rounded out. Also plan on getting some tac squads and assault squads on standby should I switch to BT. For now though my main concern is painting this army. Only 10 models have been painted so far.

So several things have been decided since my last post. First and most important, the name.

The name of the chapter itself shall be, The Templar Order. This refers to the entirety of the chapter and not just the main force. Within the Templar Order there are two main groups. The Knights [undecided adjective. Got ideas please throw them out there], and what is called "The Brotherhood" by the chapter. The Brotherhood has earned many other names amongst their enemies and allies. More on the fluff some other time. (And maybe another topic)

On to what this topic is all about. Just last week I pledged 6 Assault Terminators and a Reclusiarch from Codex BT for +++E Tenebrae Lux+++ and the first Terminator is done. i'm using this as a chance to finish some models and at the same time try out some new ideas for painting my marines. Anyway on to what you guys probably want to see.

This marine has several defining features that I should mention. The first is the banner on the right shoulder. This is known as a Crusade Banner and is an honor awarded by the Brotherhood. The exact criteria to earn such an honor is not clear, but it is not a very common honor. At most 1 out of every 20 will have such an honor. Most of which are veterans and terminators. Unlike most honors one can earn, the Crusade banner is one that most decorate the armor should it be earned. The exact reason again is unclear.

Also he bears the name Geon. Not as his name but as a testament to the fact that he was one of the survivors of the bloodshed that was the Geon Crusade. Most of the marines that survived that battle are now amongst the oldest and most skilled of the chapter. As such many terminators bear that name as a reminder.

Lastly the Red cross on the left leg is sometimes used by terminators instead of the traditional crusade seals. This mark does not have to be on the leg, but can also be mounted on as decoration (usually the unit leader does this) or on the shoulder pad. Note some terminators still use the standard crusade seals.

Alright so it took me half the day but I finished two more of my Assault termies for my vow and more of the chaplain. So without further ado.

This is the first thunder hammer terminator. He lacks the Crusade Honor of the previous terminator but that makes him no less scary in CC. Of the squad he is probably the youngest.

Bother Roche was not originally a member of squad Callix like the rest. He was assigned to the squad shortly after his induction into the brotherhood. No one is sure why he was assigned to Callix but as a member of the brotherhood he is a valuable asset. As he was only recently inducted into the Brotherhood of Swords he has yet to earn the right to wield some of the wargear they have.

For the brotherhood members I wanted to do something different while maintaining the templar style to some degree. I chose to do the armor in the style of the phrase. "My faith is my armor, my fury my sword." As such I kept the armor black (for faith and loyalty to the emperor) while making the arms and head red. The red was done by progressively lighter dry brushes of various reds worked up from the base coat of khorne red. I can go over the full method in detail if people want me too since I did use like 5 colors for it. Also the LCs are blue because all my normal power weapons are going to be like that.

This is the WIP pics of my Reclusiarch at the moment. For every terminator of the 6 I finish I do a limb. So up next I will do one of the legs before starting the last LC termie. Then its on to the hammernators left then finish the chappy.

Finally a group shot of Sword Brethren Assault Terminator Squad Callix. (WIP) The leader Callix is the one with the blue helm while brother-sword (used for referring to those in the brotherhood) Roche is the one in red. I have yet to figure out names for the rest. Also need a good name for my Reclusiarch.

Anyway I wanted to take a second to explain a little bit about some of the things I've added fluff-wise.

First up is the crusade honor from the first Terminator for the vow. As mentioned it is an honor given by the Brotherhood of Swords. (or Brotherhood) None save the Master of the order and high Marshall understand what the honor represents or why it's given out in the first place. It is believed that with this honor a measure of the emperor's guidance is granted to the brother.

During the course of a game turn should any result the model with this honor roll land as a natural 1, (before any re-rolls are done) the player may opt to re-roll it. This may only be done once during a game turn and may only effect a single dice rolled for the model in question. (Die rolls for the whole squad can not be re-rolled using this rule) This can be to-hit or wound rolls, saves, dangerous terrain checks, or checks caused by psychic powers.

The second tier of that honor is the Veteran Crusade Honor. Writing is added to the design. It functions the exact same but can be used once per player turn.

The last one to mention is the brotherhood upgrade. While mysterious to both the imperium as a whole, as well as many within the chapter, one thing is known. At any point in time there are no more then 70 battle brothers from the knights that are a part of the Brotherhood of swords. This does not include the heroes and leaders that have been accepted into the brotherhood. In addition there is a force of 30 Brotherhood members known as the Knights of the Order. They only follow orders from the high Marshall and the Master of the order. Few within the chapter are more dangerous then them.

Those who are a part of the brotherhood under go extra training. Many wonder what kind of training they receive but none question that those within the brotherhood are a force to be reckoned with.

During the shooting phase and assault phase, the model may choose to re-roll a single to-hit or to-wound roll. Declare which is to be re-rolled before rolling any dice. You do not need to pick the same one for both phases. If several models in a unit are members of the brotherhood then they must choose to re-roll the same ones even if they have different gear. The exception to this is ICs, they declare their re-roll separately.

These honors and upgrades are purely fluffy and would only ever be used in a game against people i know. I do plan on adding some stuff to the brotherhood one but I will wait for 6th ed before I do that.

Also before you think I'd be mean and take a whole army of people with these I have limits on how many models in a unit can have them. Also they won't be free.

Alright Vow 1 is complete. Squad Callix is now complete (First full squad painted up) and my second vow is about to start. 1 LRC will all the trimmings and an emperor's champion. Funnily enough that's worth more points then the squad I just did. Anyway here is the first finished Vow.

Alright I got some WIP stuff done recently. First up is a couple power weapons I made after reading the rules for 6th. They more for fun then anything.

Now the main thing I'm working on is a Land Raider Crusader with all the bells and whistles. For now I plan on getting all the standard stuff on and doing the main decorations (like doors and icons, no free hand yet) Once that's done I move on to the fun stuff. So for now, enjoy.

[The phrase on the door is in latin and reads Loricatis Caritas. It literally translates to "Armored Chariot."]

The phrase Geon is in honor of this being one of the few land raiders to survive that crusade and still be in working order.

Toothpaste of the Emperor has it been forever since I actually posted something in this. Despite the massive amount of time I have gotten things done. Not all of it is to my "Finished" Standard but I do have one thing to show for all that time. An upgrade to the Templars most iconic unit.

He got the honors hanging off his left shoulder by slaying a Demon Prince of Khorne in single combat (Without failing a single save too I might add) and then later he and his squad gunned down a Bloodthirster with nothing more than Bolt Pistols. I was both happy and sad because I actually wanted to challenge the bloodthirster to single combat but my men were too Zealous for me. The Squad has since had their weapons anointed. (Gold dry brush instead of silver)

Now if only I could get around to finishing all my nearly completed models. Namely my terminators, marshall in terminator armor, some chaplains, and my previous tourney list of initiates. Sooner or later they'll all be done and end up on here but for now, this is all that's truly done by my standards.
