Pyro X
So I made the mistake of going out and playing Warhammer 40k this weekend before I finished my Ravenwing ETL Vow and started looking at the shop. I thought that having a Sammael mode in the Land Speeder was enough then I seen how cool the model was for the jetbike, and being that I have a Saim Hann Eldar army I had to get it. Once I got it I couldn't leave it alone without paying it some. Then some went to finishing it 2 days later =|. I wish I'd have thought about it and waited to add it to my vow cause it really turned out well I think. anywho here are some of the pics, I hope they look ok. starting out Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254089-sammael-of-the-ravenwing/ Share on other sites
Bryan Blaire
Pyro X, great job on an awesome model! I wish he was a bit more useful in that configuration, but he looks fantastic. I really like the way you've done the eagle on the jet bike's prow, looking real nice, definitely appears to have some depth. Something I think would improve your model some (and you may already be planning this) would be to wash the steel/boltgun metal to weather it and add some depth to match the good depth you've built up on other parts of the model. I'd also think you'd like to do some edge highlighting on Sammael's armor and armor plates on the bike itself, but rather than grey, I'd suggest building them up with some kind of midnight blue, to mimic the 'raven' coloration. I like the power sword a lot, but I think you could very carefully thin the blue lightning arcs (between the hot spots) some and extend the power effect to the tip of the weapon. It may be the picture, but the casing of the plasma cannon seems somewhat washed out. I really like the depth you've gotten on the small icons on Sammael's armor, and the fabric you've done is fantastic! You're a brave Marine tackling an unhelmed face, and you've done a good job, really like how you've handled it (I'm not brave enough to do any unhelmed Marines). Finally, awesome job on Sammael's heraldry and the free-hand text and image on the affixed book! All in all, bang up job on the model, good show! I hope he can do good things for you on the table-top (or at least win you a best painted or something)! Pyro X
thanks for the input, I'll try out what you said and I may take a few points on how Casperatis did on his trimming in the blue, it does look good. the Plasma gun on the bottom is faded because I tried using the GW sealer and it was my 1st time using it. I used it, let it outside and when I came back out it was all hazy looking with small white dots all over it. so I had to redo almost the entire model  I'll post what I do next so u can see though  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254089-sammael-of-the-ravenwing/#findComment-3084349 Share on other sites
Bryan Blaire
Was it the spray matte sealer or the gloss one? I heard that you can clear up the haziness on the matte varnish by painting it with some of GW gloss varnish out of the bottle. Bryan Blaire
I don't have a lot of experience varnishing my stuff, but I stay away from GW's spray anything and just use Krylon spray cans for black, grey and white plus primer, or I just use brush materials GW makes, such as the new Imperial Primer paint and brush on 'Ardcoat. Krylon does make a matte varnish, you may want to give that a look and see if it can help ya. EPK
Nice going Pyro. You may want to hit his joint coils in his sword arm with some boltgun metal. I'd say lightly dry brush or overcoat metal and black wash. Adeptus-Alaska
for the clear coat, I can't recommend the army painter anti-shine matte varnish enough. it is the best I've come across. great job on sammy, I think I gotta get this guy.
