Chief Librarian Istaarn in Artificer Armor

Recommended Posts

Once upon a time, I bought a Sevrin Loth kit, with the express purpose of making it into a "this is me on the battlefield" Librarian.

I converted it a bit (namely, added a swappable jump-pack and replaced the feeble axe with a more appropriate sword, and then had it pro-painted. This was it before painting:

The painter, in hindsight, did not do a good job on some details. And, the more I looked at the mini, the more I... hated it. There was something that did not scream "badass" about it. I believe it was the pose and the sword.

Then the GK kit came out, and I decided to do something about the love-hate relationship. I took off the original sword arm, and replaced it with the one from the GK kit, minus the demon head on the end of the sword. Then, over the course of a week (jumpin' jimini cricket) I managed to paint the arm and the sword, you may LE GASP in utter awe now, right after you're done laughing. I don't normally paint anything bigger than a purity seal... I also added some detail (the metallic parts) to the backpack.

Here are the results. I think the result is pretty good. And yes, I am aware that it's a BIG DAMN SWORD that is actually longer than the man who wields it is tall. But hey, if GK can swing 'em, so can my Chief Librarian.

I must say that I have had similar feelings about the Sevrin Loth miniature when I got it - I could not deny how awesome it was, but something was off no matter what I did with it. Especially since I wanted to get rid of the axe (seriously, what was the sculptor thinking while making that hatchet?), but still use the arm to have it match with the other one.

What you did with the mini is just perfect! The new sword really fits the whole pose. He looks almost as if he is using it as a staff to lean on as he exerts his mind to bend the powers of the Warp to his will. You should be proud of how the sword turned out! The energy crackles look a bit like lightning and a bit like blue smoke, which is something I haven't seen before on any power / force weapon. The lighter shades of blue also complement the helmet and the arm very well. I also like the fact that the blue is merely an accent and he is not covered in it from top to bottom.

Overall, he's one of the coolest librarians I've seen here in a while. Your mini has inspired me to once again pick up Loth and come up with something creative myself.

You, my good man, have a very nice mini and you should be proud of it. I mist agree about the sword though, never seen a power sword painted like this before, but I like it! I wish I had money to buy the model, for I have had some ideas for it myself.
