Question about Holocaust

Hey guys, I was playing my first game of 40k today, and I was wondering, when holocaust is activated, does the entire unit use it (e.g. 1 attack) or just specific models of your choosing (e.g. multiple attacks)? Furthermore, if it's the entire unit, does the resolving of one squad member mean that you can still attack with the storm bolters of everyone except the one who resovled the attack? My friend's been playing for years but he wasn't quite sure either. I'm still new at this.

Except of course paladins don't have justicars, so you get to elect which model uses it. This model "fires" and suffers any perils. Therefore, I'd be of a mind to let the apothecary do it, as they don't carry any alternative ranged weapon (and given you'll probably only use holocaust once or twice a game due to short range, the risk of rolling perils is outweighed by the utility of maximising fire power). If you find yourself using it a lot, just change caster once the apothecary (or whomsoever you choose) takes their first perils wound.

Edit: And just to make sure I answered your question fully, only monstrous creatures (or characters with particular special rules, if any exist) may fire more than one ranged weapon per turn. Holocaust is a psychic shooting attack, which takes the place of a ranged weapon, hence my above recommendation.
