Nerds Ho!

Greetings Brothers!

Rarely do I venture into this part of B&C but i have come to request help with formulating ideas for a conversion I want to do. I have a basic idea, but was hoping you guys might be able to give some (hopefully simple) ideas to help me really achieve my goal.

So, I'm a big fan of Pratchett and a massive fan of certain characters such as Commander Vimes, the Patrician and - the subject of my little thread - the Librarian.

Now, for those of you who remain clueless I suggest a trip to Google or Wikipedia because you're - as my grandfather used to say - "missing out something fierce".

For those with a little knowledge, my intial idea was just to take a standard libby and instead of the Codex-adherent blue I would go with a lovely shade of orange, with secreted somewhere about his person some vaguely banana-shaped implements and "The Librarian" painted along his base like a nice little nameplate.

However, can you guys give me any ideas to really bring the concept to life?

My only further thought was some sort of robe that was modelled to be similar to hair of an Orangutan but that's almost certainly beyond me!

Any ideas would be much appreciated, as I want to have my very own the Librarian!

As a fan of Pratchett and of the Librarian (ook!), I thoroughly love this idea.

I think that the key to this idea is to be subtle with it and not be blatent (well, as subtle as you can be with an Orange paint scheme ^_^ )

Perhaps your Librarian could be modelled in a crouch (not sure how you'd accomplish that though, I'll have a think), and maybe have a banana on the base of the model (or a banana skin)

Other modelling ideas could include an honour mark in the shape of a Ankh Morpork "Special" Constable badge, a Staff that either has a knob on the end, or a banana

I'll have another think about it. I tend to get my best ideas when I'm not consciously thinking about it ;)

personally i think "if it were me" id make the model seem overly serious so really stern looking librarian (albeit with a slightly over developed brow and chin, with orange hair and a bit of a beard) then festoon him with scrolls, skulls & the occasional banana.. make all parchment on him read ook, and make his chapter symbol an orangutan.. whack him in a darker than normal blue for librarian.

essentially to anyone who doesnt know, they may think "huh why does he have a banana as a trinket?" and to people in the know they may have to think a little bit rather than just going "ahh" and not looking closer.

Rather than standing or crouching on his base why not have the librarian hanging from a piece of scenery attached to the base, something simple like a cornerpiece of ruined building with a broken spar/pipe jutting out where the ceiling used to be. With the other hand he could be perusing a book covered in the aforementioned ubiquitous 'Ook', or perhaps the octavo. Then festoon him with the various odds and ends he's picked up along the way, so his Special Constable badge or the portable keyboard he used in soul music, a quill and ink pot, a couple of bananas peeking out of a pouch and a few dribbley candles perhaps mounted on his backpack vents.

On a side note if you end up making the patrician as well then please, please, please use the missile launcher bracing arm to help create the 'looking over his peaked fingertips' look he's so famous for.

Whatever you end up doing I wish you luck, I love the idea of bringing the discworld characters to 40k.

Edit: I've just thought, if you REALLY wanted to go mental you could mount him on the bike he created in Soul Music(pic below if you can't remember), while death slightly stole the show in that one he did build it after all. Now that's something I'd love to see.
