Vallejo paint

Recommended Posts

Ok so I FINALLY got my vallejo game color paint set, 72 bottles of painty goodness, (and it only took 49 days to get to me :) ) I however have never even seen any vallejo paints before let alone actually paint with them. I have always used citadel before and I have the "old" citadel mega paint set which I am very familiar with as far as the colors go. However I am going to need some advice from those familiar with the colors, so If you guys were to paint a Deathwing or Angels of Absolution marine, what colors would you use? I am assuming "bone white" will be my base but what do you guys recommend for shadow and highlight? I prefer to not mix, as I have never done that before either but I may be open to ideas, I am starting my own DA successors "The Bulwark Legion" they are going to be black and "bleached bone" so any ideas would be welcome thanks much :)

Also some airbrushng tips with these would be nice to (I'm new to that to lol) mix with with water or windex? ratio? thanks again

The game color paints were designed to mimic GW's paints, check this to see what the colors are roughly compared to the GW names and you shouldnt have a problem.

As far as airbrushing I'll be the first to say it, nobody can give you a magic ratio to use for airbrushing. I used to think people who said that were just being a pain, but having gotten into it myself I now understand. It will depend on your airbrush, what psi you are spraying at, what paint you are using etc...Different colors will be different, even the same pot of paint over time will be different if it looses some water.

I've started using vallejo's airbrush thinner and am very happy with the results. I know I said you can't give a ratio, but with this product ~1:1 has been good for many paints or a good starting point to sort it out from there. Beyond that I can't say more as its all very circumstance specific.

ok thank you I had posted that as soon as I had recieved that package after digging through it a bit I have noticed the color similarities are pretty close in general anyway, just a manner of getting used to the new names and such. The airbrush Im still working out the kinks I have not had that very long at all and havnt used it much I have tried to thin with windex and I think it works but maybe its just complete  and I just dont know the difference :tu: I do not have anything other then water and windex to thin it with right now and the clossest hobby store that would sell it is 2.5 hours away :P so I shall play with it and see what I can come up with. Again thanks much!
