ant7
I have bought from FW in the past (mostly IG) it seems to me at least that sometimes it is slightly smaller than GW stuff. I was looking at the SM MKIV command minis. Has anyone bought these? How do they compare scalewise? Thanks for any info Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254262-looking-to-buy-some-forgeworld-sweetness/ Share on other sites

Perhaps the FW are actually the right scale? Regards the MKIV command set, I've not seen that in person, but I've seen other variants of the pre-heresy army along side other marines and they look fine to me. AdeptusDavidus
I don't know about the command set, but the torsos and heads from the Red Scorpions assault squad (a set of MkIV torsos and heads, and one full MkIV figure) are just a little bit smaller than the plastics. The difference in the torsos is mostly that the sides below the edges of the large plastron seem slimmer than the plastics, though they fit the plastic legs perfectly. The MkIV heads from FW seem to be a tiny bit smaller than the plastics - though, in my opinion, that makes them look a lot better, since they look more in scale than the enormous plastic heads do. ' This is correct for those two kits. They are much older molds, and the newer armor mark upgrade kits are better proportioned. I have a handfulof the MkIV heads from the original Red Scorpions kits, and they are about 15-20% smaller than GW plastic heads, to the pointof being a little pin-headed on regular Marine torsos. ant7
Thanks for the replies. So maybe the newer kits are more to scale? I hope so as I am thinking about ordering some. SCC
Thanks for the replies. So maybe the newer kits are more to scale? I hope so as I am thinking about ordering some. From what I've seen the new armor mark sets are perfectly proportioned with the GW plastics. I've bought most of the FW Great Crusade/Heresy era armour kits - including the assault and apothecary ones - and for the most part ShinyRhino is right. The design of the various marks means that in general the older versions appear smaller even if they aren't (for example the differing wrist guards - or lack of them - make arms look quite different, the same with knee pads), in general these kits match up closely with the plastics but there are some things to note. Mk.II - As it offers less armour protection than later marks it tends to be a bit 'lighter' than other marks. In particular the legs can look a little weird with the bulkier torsos (Mk II or VIII etc.) as they're fairly spindly (as was recently pointed out to me regarding this guy) Mk.III - Obviously it's bulkier than any other Mark and is fairly obvious in mix/match situation. That said, the torso goes well with most anything  Mk.IV - Is fractionally slimmer than the plastics, harder to detect than the Mk.II but worth bearing in mind when planning things. Mk.V - Probably the closest match to the plastics that I've used. Mk.VI - Both sets of MkVI and MkVI based RG kits I've picked up mesh well with the plastics, that said, the more upright poses make them appear taller/slimmer, especially the legs and if you really look closely they are a fraction slimmer in the thigh and arm.
