More progress. Head exterior pretty much done pre-varnish for decals.

Yeah, more or less. Kids, helping out with my wife's business and just general household stuff take up a surprising amount of time. Folks often don't realise how little actual working time you get when working at home. Ordinarily I'm probably closer to 20 hours but for competition stuff I get a bit more leeway in being obsessive...

More work on the internals. Very close to having to get back on with painting gold and starting to design decals.

Really nice and clean green on the head!

Is it pure AB, with some dark green base and 1 or 2 highlightings?

Oh, as for the alien goo you mentioned previously: how about using some hotglue to form "drops" and "hang" them from the lifted titan toe...basically like when you squish a bug :cuss

Yeah, the green is airbrushed, just one highlight on the green. Basecoat of Tamiya XF-70 (Dark Green 2 JN), then highlight of XF-5 (Flat Green). Gloss coat of klear, then burnt umber oil filter.

There will be another oil pass and pigments over everything, so that might tone the speckliness down a bit. It's not so noticable in the flesh, but in photos it does stand out. I think I'll avoid the tamiya metals in future.

The titan is in forward motion, so it's not stepped on anything yet, all the 'nid casualties are from the soon-to-die guardsmen.

Awesome diorama, really like the idea of a desperate life or death battle going on below but not even being noticed by the Titan as it's so inconsequential to it.

On the metallics - I've never gotton on myself with Tamiya metallics through the AB (strange 'cos their "normal" colours cut with lacquer thinner spray wonderfully) - as I always get similar "graininess" - I think it's just a product of the metallic pigment size. In my experience weathering will take the worst of the "speckle" out.

Going forward, if you've not tried them, Alclad II metallics are superb - they're lacquer based, AB only, need some careful prep work, but come in a shed load of metallic shades and look glorious once on.

Once again - fabulous work (keep it up), really looking forward to seeing this "in the resin" at Games Day in a few weeks :)

Cheers, Rich. Yeah, I've used Alclad a lot. The titan's got a pretty rough surface to it; they wouldn't polish up or sit nice. You'd have to put a pretty thick coat of gloss on first. As is a lot of the detail is... well it's not great in places. The moulds are definitely tired for some parts. Whether it's just a 'master mould' that needs remaking or whether the parts themselves need remastering I dunno. I would hope they're sensible and have a metal master for a lot of the parts.

The flakiness isn't nearly so obvious outside of enlarged photos; and I too think it's the flake size in the Tamiya paints. We'll see what additional work does to it. :-)

Yeah, I've seen that rough surface on more than a few of the FW kits I've got. This morning I primed a FW Demios predator (so a new mould), just checked on the finish, and sure enough primers thrown up all the imperfections, rough surface etc. Mega frustrating. :D Inside corners seem to be a favourite place for cruddy mould syndrome to strike...

Because I loves me some freehand... and cos I started doing this to cover up a rough surface on the Vulcan Bolter I'd failed to spot and got carried away and now have to do the whole damn thing to match...

The morning star is an outline decal painted in to keep it precise.

Awesome freehand. the crakcle patterning outshines the morningstar by leaps and bounds. My one issue is the highlighting of the cracks in the green portion read off. In looking at the white section, it reads properly, IMO, because of the lack of highlights on the upper surface. In the green area though, it creates a lighting effect that looks off. I wish I could explain what I am trying to say better ... Basically, you appear to have applied vertical highlights on a horizontal surface, and that throws the look of the cracking off on the top of the carapace.

If you are inclined to try a different approach, could I suggest a zenithal highlight that showcases the cracks as breaks in the highlight for the green portion?
