What Allies will you take?

I quite like the idea of one sided allies.

Like a squad of GK 'bamph' in to assisst these blue skinned aliens face Chaos. But there's really no reason the GKs would ever aproach the blue skins for Aid.

Well, maybe they don't want them to see thier NDK suits. :)

I can see Brother Rectus telling Shas'O Downcast-Smile:

-Oh, yeah, sure, that jumping back thing is cool... Where's the close combat weapon? Oh, you've got none... Yeah, no, it's still cool. Tell me how it teleports? Oh... it doesn't. Yeah, cool... *shuffles feet a bit, akwardly, looking down...*

I want to try making an air cavalry GK/Inquisition force, so I may ally in some Elysian drop troops, shove some GKs in Storm Ravens and play Ride of the Valkyries very loudly when they come onto the board. Not enormously competitive, but fun.

I was thinking the same thing

If the allies comer back im am just excited about putting penal legionnaires and actual storm troopers back in the lists something the GK list is really lacking fluffwise inquisitors will use anything and everything to get the job done, i really like the idea. Fuffwise though it looks like BT got a sucker punch allying with xenos, not a chance!
Sanguinary Priests still have ATSKNF, don't they?

Take 3 for one elite slot, attach them to 3 DCA units.

DCA with FC, FNP *and* ATSKNF...

Scary! :D

Grey Knights are most likely aren't going to be Brothers in Arms with anyone, so you treat all the allies as 'enemies' you can't shoot or assault. So no intermingling of ICs or special rules.

What I meant is that the GK page doesn't show Tau as allies, yet the Tau page shows GKs as allies... More pragmatic :D

But Space Marines are listed twice, so most likely just an error on the website.

Aye, you can see it in the 6th edition preview, pause around the 1:27 timestamp:

Someone on Reddit with the rulebook (he had picture proof) said the allies matrix is the same as the GW doubles tournament a while back.

I'd bet on "tech error" in the page. I suppose when we'll have the rulebook we'll see GK can take Tau as allies as well... it would be logical.

Anyway In the official Trailer there is an image of the "allies section" of the rulebook and it mentioned "Allies of Convenience". I wonder whether the allies listed in the link provided are all "standard allies" or or some of them could be "allies of convenience"...

Like I said in the post above you, the alliance matrix seems to be same as the one used in the recent official GW doubles tournament:

Replace 'Grudging Allies' with 'Allies of convience' and 'Unholy Alliance' with 'Desperate Allies'.

So we can ally with everything besides Chaos and Tyranids, but don't have any Brothers in Arms.

What are the effects of the various "allience types"?

Judging from the pictures in the video, it seems to be something like:

Brothers in Arms: Not in the pictures, but probably a full alliance

Allies of Convience: Can't benefit from Warlord traits, treat allied units as enemies you cannot attack/shoot or target with psychic powers and ICs cannot join units of ally.

Desperate Allies: As above, but if allies come within 6" of each other, roll a dice to see if they ... (stop being allies? can't act that turn?)

The Allience of Convience limitation make sense but the stop to be allies for Desperate Alliences seems unbalanced. What happen if the stop being allies? Your opponents take control of them giving them a huge free points advantage.

Maybe they could inflict some damage/attack. Your "can't act that turn" sounds more logical than stop being allies, a little drastic but still acceptable.

It shouldn't be a problem to keep more than 6" between each other.

After all if you deploy a Desperate Allience is because you have a plan. Sending low-cost infantry models against your enemies front lines so they'll buy more time for your main assault with GK (Orks come at mind) or using some DE flyer to vex enemy units so you keep their attention away from your GK.

I suppose desperate allies will be used for tactics like those. Mostly for diversion or to counter your army weakness. However I suppose a detatchement of IG vehicles (not desperate allies) would counter the greatest weakness of GK: range.

It's a little weird that eldar and dark eldar are brothers in arms? Rest of the matrix make mostly sense although does anyone know if having an ally hq is in addition to the parent lists 2 hq foc maximum??

Some people are saying they come out of your regular FOC slots, but you do get an extra chart worth of slots at 2k points and above.

In fact on WD a player used two HQ choices for his Chaos Space Marins and 1 for his Chaos daemons allies.

3 hq's !? Madness lol I'm sure there are some codices hq's this will break :s, also although I'm sure you won't be allowed to ally with ur own codex but that matrix says otherwise (or was it from a doubles tourney faq?) But 2 mephiston beasts anyone lol ?

No, can't ally with yourself.

Beside Mephiston is an unique character, thus you can't have two of them anyway.

Why would the Inquisition want to be brothers in arms with anyone? They all need to be mind scrubbed or might be daemonically possessed anyway :P

I'm not going to worry overly much about it, I imagine it will make a lot more sense when we can see the book.
