I'm tempted to add a DW Stormtalon, just because I love flyers :) I don't know if DW vehicles have the paint scheme of armor, though... Zeratil
Having heard some more rumours I'm quite tempted by some Eldar as allies, rangers are troops and get a real buff with the new sniper rules and farseers are some of the best psykers (most powers, divination has a good power set) and unless runes of warding are nerfed in the FAQ the only truly effective psychic defence around. If ghosthelms remain around they may be the only ones who don't lose a wound from perils too. Elric the Silvercoat
Anyone think of the Stormlord with Cortez so as long as you are not fighting Orks you will have a re-rollable 4+ to steal first turn or make the other player re-roll his Seize. And with the Night Fighting you can get the Grey Knights up faster without being shot to death. Crimson Hawk
OK, let's work with the current rumours, and let's also assume you can only take a single 'ally'. The rumours are;  You need to take 1HQ and 2 Troops in your Primary army.  From there, you can take 1HQ and 1 Troop from an ally. This then somehow opens up other ally slots.  What 1HQ and 1 Troop are you planning on taking? And if other slots open up, what would you like to take? Guardsmen. A ton of them. Why? To represent the Legion, my own home-brewed organisation-basically the Guard version of GK. My Inquisitor tours the sector, searching for men who stand firm against the evil of Chaos, and resist. There's a couple hundred thousand of them, and they operate like a normal Guard regiment Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254461-what-allies-will-you-take/page/5/#findComment-3098057 Share on other sites
BrotherWasted
So, seeing as how Grey Knights have NO Battle Brothers, is anyone considering the Allies rules useless to us? Abaddonshand
So, seeing as how Grey Knights have NO Battle Brothers, is anyone considering the Allies rules useless to us? Â Â As I said in the other thread about allies, I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to finally be able to put my inquisititor in the Valkyrie I painted for him with a squad of IG Vets. This can't be done as grudging allies can't send ICs to each others' squads apparently, whereas battle brothers can. Apparently Tau will follow the commands of a space marine HQ, but IG grunts won't obey an Inquisitor ;). Â In any case, my point is moot since its recently been posted that even battle brothers can't hop in each others' transports. No valkyrie for Inquisitor Ardias then. Â Of course, Vendettas are nasty flyers, and very cheap, so I might buy the forge world conversion kit, stick a squad of IG vets or penal legionnaires in there, and make a primaris psyker count as my inquisitor. That way I get an approximation of what I'm after, trading the inquisitor's Ordo xenos toys for extra psychic powers from the lores, and for roughly the same points. Now I mention it, recruiting a group of "dirty dozen" type Schafer's last chancers wannabes sounds exactly like something an inquisitor would do, and the grudging allies actually reflects how grey knights view at least some inquisitors. nurglez
I was under the impression that you couldn't take named hq's as allies... Cmdr Shepard
I got confirmation today that Fantasy 8e style random terrain effects are in the core 40K rules. Â I doubt any of my mates are ever going to want to use the Mystic Wood, so I hope we'll be all good on that! :( According to the "sources" I found there won't be a randome generation of terrain "a la Fantasy"... I believe you devide the table in equal parts and you roll the density of the scenary for that area, then you and your opponent place the scenary, mutually chosen, if I'm not mistaken... Â Back to the allies matter: It seems we had some good ideas. Currently we have mentioned IG, Space Marine, Necron and Eldar. They all have great potential. I have still to decide the allies I'll use in my first 6th matches. Â Necron for "flyer spam" list: As I mentioned before the ability to get cheap flyer transports with most units will give us a fair good amount of Tesla destructor shots plus a Death ray from Doom Scyte. We could even add deathmarks snipers who can even wound a choosen target on 2+ in addition to the snipers benefit. We could also have several Warriors and their Gauss fire. Only problem: Will flyer be as competitive as we thought? Â Space Marine and IG: too many options for my brief reply :) Â Eldar: Just one word; Eldrad :). We have to see if he can be useful to the rest of the army. Fielding him just for boosting a small allied detatchment may not be a wise investment, or not? Pathfinders. No need to say more  Have you ever thought about a squadron of 3 War Walkers with scatter lasers. A torrent of S6 shots capable of dealing with most flyers even without A/A specific capabilities. Â What about fortifications? Is an Imperial Bastion or the Fortress of Redemption useful to a GK army? Â EDIT: Â I was under the impression that you couldn't take named hq's as allies... Â As the official GW allies page suggest various named HQ models to purchase, I'm assuming you can, but haven't read anything confirming it either way. Â For my knowledge there is no limitation: just a 1 HQ+ 1 Troops, thus HG can be even a Special Character. Cmdr Shepard
Pathfinders behind an Aegis defense line? Â They will have a +2 cover save, the same they'll have if you place them inside ruins but the'll have an heavy weapon nearby. We'll spend the fortification points cost just to give them what they can achieve with other scenery. However we can still place the defense line near objective and use the +2 covered pathfinders to open fire on the advancing enemy models. It could be interesting. Â What about the Fortress of Redemption? It's an amazing scenery but I wonder if it will be useful.... Gentlemanloser
What happens if you've got no ruins on the board? Maybe you're playing with only forest/craters? Â The added bonus of the Aegis is (as you say with the objective) the ability to place your 2+ save giving cover, where ever you need it. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254461-what-allies-will-you-take/page/5/#findComment-3098811 Share on other sites

You and your opponent mutually place them on the table after you agreed on the scenary you both want to use. It seems you divide the table in areas (maybe quarters) and roll a d3 to determine the "density of scenary" for that area. However if you want to be sure about your 2+ cover Aegis will serve you well. You can even add weapon platform ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254461-what-allies-will-you-take/page/5/#findComment-3098860 Share on other sites
bebe
Anyone consider an Autarch on a bike (reserve manipulation) and some jetbikes as troops? It could be interesting in a Mordrak list. I know we can reserve manipulate with an inquisitor but this is cheaper by far and bikes make a nice troop choice. Pathfinders are not bad, IMHO, but I would use dark reapers in the heavy slot first methinks. Not cheap but you need a HQ for your primary army. If you don't plan to use them then Autarch may be a good choice. Anyway how do you think to play him? You plan to keep him on objectives or be part of the main assault? The emperors chosen
Now can we only ally with one other army? I haven't gotten any clear ruling on that from what I have read.
