Sharp's ETL Vow

Recommended Posts

Fantastic work Brother-Captain Sharp, the apothecary looks like he has been through hell (or at least the thickest and heaviest part of the battle) and yet is still ready and eager for more. Most definitely someone you would not want to mess with!

Doing the rest of the command squad the same way is a great idea as they are always going to be in the thick of it.

Excellent work Brother-Captain Sharp, thats some extensive battle damage.

Doh! And to think I RP an apothecary.. Well not so much lately on account of exams, but still. Good find, Doc.

Thats one of those funny little things that just sticks with you (carnifex being both an integral part of an Apothecaries kit and a hulking Tyranid bio-monstrosity). When you've been playing the game and devouring the background for over twenty years there are quite a few of them. :P

What happened to this guy? He looks like he took on a regiment of IG on his own (hence the non-penetrative hits )

OK he looks very very brutal - but considering his job is to slit the thoat of his dying comrades end extract their glands he looks fine! ;)

Excellent base too! Keep it up - can't wait for the banner!

Thanks, Semper! That's what I was shooting for. I figure that as potentially multiple-century old veterans, Apothecaries should be very unpleasant looking fellows! ;)

Anyways, sharp work as always, brother captain.

Thanks, WCAzrael. ;)

It's great to hear that the Apothecary's paint and base effectively communicates the attitude I was going for the Apothecary. In pretty much every game, Belial, the Banner, Apothecary, and maybe 1 other Terminator just completely walk over whole sections of the enemy. Thanks for the compliments. :)

WRT the squad, I hope that at the end of this vow I can have a good centerpiece for the army in the Command Squad, Belial, Damion (Int-Chaplain), and their Command Land Raider. It's all going to be weathered and beaten.

Thanks, Doc. I knew that it was somewhat of a ballsy decision to do so much battle damage, so it's good to hear that it looks good. Much appreciated. :)

@Everybody: Thanks for the comments! They help me stay motivated, and hopefully with your help I can finish my vow. :)

Command Squad Terminator #2

He's still very WIP, however I did have fun on the Dark Angels symbol on his left shoulder (his home chapter). Also, I know there's a lot of quartering errors and spillovers. I have yet to clean him up, as I wait until I finish the highlighting on the black as well.

Comments and criticism welcome, as always. Cheers!

No replies, but I'm not surprised. My early WIPs are usually underwhelming. Here's the same terminator, now with some lighting effects. I know it's not much, but I'm trying to paint each night to finish the vow.

Love the lightning effect on the hammer - very well made! Also free hand Chapter symbol? top notch!

QUESTION: Why does the apothecry have blue/white eyes and this one red? Do you want to give the Apothecary a more "steralised" look or are you trying out different patterns?

Thanks, Semper. My squads have different colored eyes depending on what color their home chapter's helmet is. If it's green, they get red as blue does not look that great on the green. If it's bone or black, they get blue. Although this choice results in less uniformity, that's actually my goal. I want to represent the varied backgrounds they come from. Also, in general I like giving veterans variety. as over the years they would accumulate interesting wargear.

How is that I haven't seen your Apothecary ? Looks stunning. The last one reminds me of my own TH termie although mine is less dynamic and now I know what I should have done better

Thanks, bevulf! :jaw: The pose on that termie is a pretty common one, but I liked it enough for it to make the command squad.

Cheers for the comments, gents. More painting is going to happen today, so hopefully I'll have some progress tonight.

Those guys look really, really sweet. I wouldn't do it for my own army like that but the battle scarring looks excellent.

I was wondering though, as I get to building a Termie Command Squad: is that Apothecary technically armed with a PF, narthecium/reductor and a SS? Is that legal?

I particularly like the combo of green eye lenses on black armour (see RW) any chance of adding green to your pallete? Or yellow for that matter (Consecrators)? :D

Excellent job so far - keep it up!

Modelwise that's what he has. However, game-wise he is played as an Apothecary with SS/TH, carrying a narthecium and reductor. Neither of those pieces replace wargear options. The only illegal part here is SS+PF, but that's illegal for most everybody, so opponent's are quick to agree when I point it out and explain the modelling decision.

So, like this?

I like it! Much better than the green on bone I tried earlier.

Btw, ^that is my teeny-tiny update for the night.

Cheers!

I have completed the next Terminator except for the weathering and some ropes I forgot. By far not my best work, but I'm just glad to be done with him until I go back and add the damage and weathering.

Well, here's the next terminator completed. I'm gonna try to make a last minute push for completion. I don't rate my chances as too high, but I'll make an attempt at it. At this point, the Company Master and three Terminators are finished, with 2 Terminators remaining at ~50% completion. Then it's the Land Raider Crusader that is nothing more than basecoated.

Sharp, he looks awesome! I love the lightning effect you've achieved, it looks great, and you have a very nice amount of action in the pose. The feathers could use a little additional veining to add some depth (although this can quickly look too busy on the table-top) and I think the small skull on the hammer arm could use some more color definition. The little tabard cloth is very well done (is that a bit, or did you sculpt it yourself, kudos either way) and I'm liking the shield. All in all a fantastic model to see!

As far as the completion, good luck! If it doesn't happen, ah well, but strive for the Legion! ;)

Thanks, frater. Both your criticisms are completely valid, and will be looked at after the vow. As for the tabard, that's one of my GS'd ropes I've got scatter through my army. Simple work, but I found it can give a bit of character. Thanks again for the kind words.

After finishing the other Terminator, I decided to go on a painting marathon and completed another starting off basecoats. This is the sergeant of the squad (following the age old rule of "Leaders don't wear helmets"). B) I grew to like him more as I painted him, and I feel between the head and bionic leg (which I built tonight after a hobby accident sheared a leg of his), he has enough character to match those around him in the squad. I took about 5-ish hours to paint him.

Please excuse the face. As a Space Marine player, I don't get much practice on flesh. ;) And now that I've completed the sergeant, here's how the squad looks so far:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_1127-1.jpg

Coming together. I just need the Banner Bearer. Eventually they will all be weathered, but that's for a later time at this point.

Comments and criticism welcome, as always.

Love them! :)

I think you're doing a great job here Brother Captain - I sure hope you finish your vow! Just a question: red shoulder pad and red helmet with a black stripe?

To paraphrase Gordon Gekko (again!): Sleep is for wimps! :D

Love them! :(

Thanks, Semper! ;) As for the helmet and shoulder pad: They're in the scheme of a friend's Unforgiven successor. :)

Brother-Captain Sharp:

These terminators are looking great. The apothecary is definitely my favorite; he means serious business. The various colored glowing eyes are fantastic and I don't feel they detract from squad unity in the least.

FC

Thanls, FinylCut! :) I'm glad you like the different colored eyes. It's definitely here to stay

AWESOME 'Naters and LR ride BC-S, I really like the dynamic poses (esp. the twisted torsos) and the interesting bases. Neither of which detract form the cool paintwork and many many other cool additions.

congrats

Look just fantastic. I love the panels, aways wondered how they would look. The detail on the apothecary is brilliant. Well done and congrats on a timely finish.
