Death Dealer 101
Greetings all to my new (and first ever) army blog the Sons of Sparta. I have always wanted a Greek/Spartan marine themed chapter but have never got around to it and didn't want to jump onto the wagon with the whole 300 movie craze. This army is an attempt to stick to both an army list and modelling theme, I already own a somewhat never ending large (9,000 point) space wolves army and thought I needed a break from them with a project that would have an end (Hopefully). This army is coinciding with 6th more by accident and was never intended as the “new edition new army” that GW will probably push. It is more a tale of two gamers with a gaming friend who is starting a death korp engineer army. http://z4.invisionfree.com/Boot_Camp/index...showtopic=14712. The aim is to slowly build, paint and game until we decide the armies are done. So the idea is to use the Blood Angel Codex to create a pure jump list themed army around Dante, Sanguinary guard and assault squads. Here is my rough 1,500 point list that I will aim to build and paint. Its compact, fast and packs a punch. This is in the dying days of 5th edition so I will have to see how it goes in 6th, hopefully it doesn't become super useless or super great and stays an army that is situational good and relies a lot on careful planing and placement of units. Commander Dante – 225 Librarian: Jump Pack, Blood Lance, Shield of Sanguinius – 125 Sanguinary Priest: Power Weapon, Jump Pack – 90 Sanguinary Priest: Power Weapon, Jump Pack – 90 Sanguinary Guard Squad (5): 2x Infernus Pistol, Chapter Banner – 250 Sanguinary Guard Squad (5): 2x Infernus Pistol – 220 Assault Squad (10): Power Fist, Infernus Pistol, 2x Meltagun – 250 Assault Squad (10): Power Fist, Infernus Pistol, 2x Meltagun – 250 This represents lots of time spent on ebay (international) amassing all the parts I require for the army. The vast majority is 8 boxes of sanguinary guard and the spartan heads and shields from scibor. Lots of spare parts to sell on ebay, hopefully I can recoup some costs of the army as I have no need for 8 blood angel banners or dozens of blood angel heads. Without any further ado I present my initial works, my jump pack librarian. And my first assault squad. I haven't attached the wings yet as it will make painting easier, same with the shields and heads. And finally a size comparison. Comments and criticism would be appreciated. mactire
great idea. absolutely stunning the helms and torsos work brilliantly together ( i dont normally even like the 6 pack armour ). post more pics as you paint. what colour scheme will you be using?. imho i would think some kind of bronze with gold to mark captains/librarians and use red as a splash colour. Death Dealer 101
Thanks all, still a bit of work to go on these guys before I move to the next squad. @mactire, yeah scibors stuff in this instance is really nice and matches well with the muscle armour. Though it seems to be cast in such a way that everything needs green stuffing and fixing. The edges of the shields are very thin and this is where they attach to the mold so can be rather frustrating to remove. @daismith906, the weapons are a concoction of things. The arms are general marine arms, the hand and sword handle is from grey knight falcons and the blade is a spear tip from fantasy high elf spearmen. grimtuff
Nice to see it was not presumptuous of you to say they're decent looking in the title. *Descent! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254624-sons-of-sparta/#findComment-3094389 Share on other sites
Death Dealer 101
@jackel, I have been banned from any 300 quotes but a few may sneek in here and there. @kassill, it seems a few people had used the name but was such a good name I had to use it. Was originally inspired by the spartan marines in an old white dwarf. @grimtuff, thankyou my bad. The Yak
My jaw hit the floor about 8 times whilst reading this plog and it has only just started. Great work looking forward to seeing more. @georgeapg: You can get those boxes from local DIY stores or in my case poundshops! They are normally used for holding screws/nuts/bolts but for us lot they are the ideal bitzboxes should be able to pick one up for £1-£3 (UK) Good luck with this project :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254624-sons-of-sparta/#findComment-3095539 Share on other sites

Death Dealer 101
Wow thanks for all the great feedback everyone. @Georgeapg, the box was from K-Mart I think here in Australia. @Nighthunters, yep that’s Achilles he is going to be jumping off a small column or similar. It terms of paint schemes I will probably attempt a dark bronze colour with silver highlights and the odd red tabard. Yep the standard Spartan marine colours. Done a test base. Its still a bit WiP as I need to get a darker green moss to put in the cracks. And here is my latest addition to the army, the first sanguinary priest with power weapon (though who knows which sort, probably just a standard power sword). With the priest not giving out an initiative bonus on the charge he becomes a little less effective but still staying true to my army for now. Though its looking like terminators may be a tad bit of a pain with power weapons being Ap 3. May need to get some plasmaguns. And with wings. What's everyone’s thoughts, wings on priest or not. Kassill
After seeing him with the wings, it's hard to picture him without. Looks blank, or unfinished. So I say yes, wings please. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254624-sons-of-sparta/#findComment-3096501 Share on other sites

GooseDaMoose
Hey, so I don't mean to be a stick in the mud here but my first reaction was actually that the statue's head off which your Librarian is leaping seems to be halfway sunk into sand or mud or something, and yet it's set on a pave stone base. So unless someone made a perfectly clean, straight cut through the head at that angle, causing it to slide off and land with the flat side down on the stones, it doesn't make any sense.. Also, might I suggest to vary a few of the assault marine arms, the four leftmost seem to have the exact same pose.
