So, Bloodclaws then

Latecomer to the Wolves but I've been toying with the idea ever since the current codex came out.

Thing is, does anyone actually use BC's anymore? WS and BS are only equal to a Guardsman, that is true. But it is a Guardsman in power armour with 2 ccw's and a slew of abilities. But I don't see them much in lists anymore - is it just that Grey Hunters are too points-efficient for their cost or is there another point that I am missing?

Of course, if people still use Claws then I'd appreciate any advice as regards numbers, weapons, etc etc.

Thanks.

I did when testing them and will when i build my own(was using my dads to test :( ) they are only good coming out of a LRC in full 15 man packs. They are best used to punch a hole through lines or to buy time for your other units to move up and or get into better positions.

I will always have a place for Blood Claws in my army lists. Admittedly they're not a brilliant choice being costed the same as Grey Hunters and can no longer purchase Meltabombs plus require a leash a lot of the time lol but there's something about rolling a bucketload of attacks, plus I use them in a fluffy way, as my first wave in an infantry force, just how it should be haha.

This, but with a WP/WG.

Footslogging BCs absolutely need a vehicle and their low BS/WS necessitate having a larger pack (14-15) to make up for the inevitable misses, so a LRC is the general preferred method, especially given that their Berserk Charge only works on the charge so they need to strike right from the transport.

Also, giving them anything other than flamers is a waste of points, albeit a strategic gamble. Given their lower BS, they benefit most from the auto hits provided by flamers, not to mention their ultimate goal is melee, so they'll most certainly get to use them.

However, all this could change with 6th edition being released next week. Most especially could be a rise in Sky- and Swiftclaws. Skyclaws for the new Hammer of Wrath ability, and Swiftclaws for being given back the ability to 'jink'....among potential additional changes for both, to say the least.

BC's still have their place. Usually against hordes. Theyre going to be hitting on 4+ anyway which is what I am used to.

I just had a fun experience with them. I had some extra points one game and bought a pack of 6 to protect my long fangs and RP against the ork warboss and nob squad. Killed the transport first turn, and murderous hurricaned them the whole way to my long fang squad. When they got close enough they were withered down. I did get the BC to charge before the boss and nobs got to the LF and RP. Unfortunately, he rolled a lot of his saves. And killed them in his assault phase. Which then the LF and RP charged and killed the Boss and Nob squad.

Another fun thing is that game (I cant help but to share), 20 boyz charge 5 GH who were in cover. I kill 12 boys (motw got 6) and he strikes back and kills 4 of my grey hunters. My last (motw) grey hunter over-ran the squad. MoTW GH was responsible for 14 kills by himself. Warhammer is fun :)

Sounds like a mighty beginning to this Lone Wolf's Saga. ^_^

To the OP's question. Costing the same amount of points for less, people tend to migrate to the Grey Hunters. Packing them in a LR with an IC seems to be the best way to field them to maximize their potential. But you can also represent them in the Sky Claw or Swift Claw role like Wulfebane mentioned.

But, with 6th at the end of the week, anything's possible.

I use 'em every game and they mash people up rather nicely with a couple of combos in the unit.

If anyone wants to know - 8 BCs (inc PF) in a land raider, with the warrior born & Fblade WL and a Wolf Priest accompanying them. Hold the LR until you can get a long charge, hit everything with the rerolls for the unit, then leap back into the landraider after combat. Drive off and hit someone else.

If people pick on the LR, then it lets the rest of the army do its stuff without trouble.
