Rune Priest Ridcully
Woe, really nice, especially the use of the green on the MK IV guy, I take as everyone is alphurus you are painting them each to hq standard :D
ThisisJimmy
ThisisJimmy - White Scar WIP Post 1 Seeing all the amazing work that everyone is putting up, I figured I better start contributing before some people start eyeing off the sons of the Khan (I've got my eyes on you :()Anywho, I figured I would attempt to slap a model together from some of the spare Mk.IV bits I have lying around. I recently received a dodgy batch where the mould lines on most of the legs were far to extreme to fix. 1 wasn't too bad though, so I made use of that, a head from the White Scar upgrade pack and a Space Wolf knife, as well as a bit of green stuff. So without further ado, here are the pictures:This was my first attempt at sculpting fur, so how does it look? That's it for my first WIP, hopefully I should be able to crack into some more models and maybe some painting before too long
subtlebrush
@Rune Priest Ridcully: I'd have to say you might be stuck with just doing designs for the shoulder pads. Iron Armour is a pain to individualize. @NightHunters: Your Legionnaires are coming along smoothly! @ThisisJimmy: Freakin' amazing work on that marine. For your first time sculpting fur you've done an amazing job!
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Brother Chaplain Kage - Post 1 - Custodes Concept Rough I got some work done on roughing in the shapes of the torso and bulking it up a tad: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x5/Kageboshi/CustodesConcept1.jpg As you can see, in this stance, he's taller than the marine and the helmet will be taller still. I'm going to do some reshaping on the sides once it cures some more, but this angle makes it look more round than it really is. I'm also trying out an idea for shoulder pads, since I will be using the DE arms, and marine shoulder pads are just far too big for that.
Hyaenidae
Just for you, Kage, here's what i feel may be one of the coolest Custodes pics ever, and also proof that not all Custodes have to go the 'conehead' route...
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Yeah, I have that in my collection of Custodes pics I've been able to find. A potential problem with that is that since I'm basing them on DE models, marine heads would be too big and Eldar heads might look strange on a Custodes. Here's a little more progress, showing the shoulder pad idea, which was semi-successful, and an attached arm to get a better feel for the pose: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x5/Kageboshi/CustodesConcept1a.jpg If this works out, I might have to see about molding and casting some parts for the rest of the figures, otherwise this is going to be a LOT of work. -BCK
Death Guard Trooper
@NightHunters: Very nice! I like them. I too am waiting for 30 PH bolters to get my boys rocking and rolling. @ThisisJimmy: Whoa, I cant say ive really been much of a fan of the Scars, but Im very interested in what you got going, keep it up! The Mk IV suits I got I could tell were more slick then the III's I assembled, I washed them before hand as well but getting them together was more of a pain. That last pic they were primed, and its flaking off. Back to the start with those boys for me ^_^
Kizzdougs
Awesome work Kage! The green stuff is looking very clean and precise. I can't wait to see you add some detail to him ^_^
sheep
Sheep, Post 2 - WIP SGT Thanks for the interest and comments guys, I've been a bit busy with a new uni entrance course I'm doing, and work, but I managed to cobble together this Sgt over the last couple of days. He took alot more time and fiddling around then I anticipated, the combination of various Mks of armour give a nice feel I think, and is something I can see happening during a protracted siege like the siege of Terra.http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m289/Sheep_06/Sons%20of%20Horus/IMG_0672.jpgThe arms are from the plastic CSM set, and are a nice analogue for Mk2 once your file off the extraneous detail.I hope to have the first 5-10 men finished by the end of next week, but that may blow out due to my time being taken up by work/uni entrance course I started a couple of weeks ago. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Awesome work Kage! The green stuff is looking very clean and precise. I can't wait to see you add some detail to him :) Thanks! I'm still poring over some of the art that I printed out, deciding what detail I'm going to try to include. I've got another idea for the shoulder pads in the works right now, and hope it comes out well.
the damned artificer
Sheep: As always your work is top shelf ;) He's got a really great feel about him with that mishmash of armour ;) Kage: Have you considered some of the bare heads from the cadian command squad, like the nice scarred one as they are a good size in between marines and eldar heads ;) I've used it on my scout sergeant as I really hate the scout heads :P Also that particular scarred head could easily encompas the regal feel of a custodian ;)
Ironwrought Huw
I can only second the comments guys, really great looking work. Sheep, really love the pose on the sergeant Firstly, thanks for the suggestions guys, and glad you liked Ferrox, grinding that EC marine into the ground :P Secondly, Toxichobbit thanks for the name ideas, I really like Panaceum for the apthoicaries. Huberticus, X Legion, Post 2 - WIP 1 - Dreadnought Right, I've started getting the basics down for my first dreadnought*, brother Ferric This artwork inspired me http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/dread.jpg And this is what I've managed so far - basic black done, and the very basic highlights (mostly to show my poor eyes where to go) have been done. The bluetac is holding him in place, mostly because I don't actually have a base ready for him http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011832-1.jpg Cheers guys Once again, it's really great to see this project move along :D *for this project, he's actually my second overall dreadnought
Rune Priest Ridcully
Rune Priest Ridcully Legio XVIII The Salamanders W.I.P Post III-Squad Tel'vrak So with the bad weather I have done some more details on the first 5 men of Tel'vrakI will touch up the green, I have been thinking of possibly drybrushing over it to get it more to the olive sort of colour in the Heresy artbooks, but not sure which colour would be best for this.I'm not sure about the flames on Tel'vrak's groin guard. Here's my attempt at doing the hollow squad symbols freehand, and to be honest, I'm not that happy with it and so will probably try again, this has also put me off freehanding the legion symbol, as if I can't do simple arrows how am I going to do the legion badge? I know the colour of the badge and it's background denotes company in the 40,000 salamanders, but would all of the heresy era marines had the some one? Would love to try to do the badge, but just not sure about how I would do it, could practice on plasticard :P it's the curved surfaces of the pads that get me, so if anyone has any advice on paining on curved surfaces it would be greatly appreciated. Also, what does everyone think of these?:These are the shoulder pads for the second armour set, and to be honest I am not impressed due to the holes, i know it would to easy to fix, but part of me is tempted to send the photos to FW just to let them know, as I had similar holes on the wraithseer I got a month ago, and it's mainly the price you pay for each armour set that makes me want to report it to them just so they know, what do you think?Swear sheep is going to be giving people heart attacks with his awesome models, must admit I'm to scared to cut up forge world armour like that :PHuberticus, You have really managed to capture the pose on the artwork, must admit the hull points of 6th ed have put me off getting a contemptor for my thousand sons, but it is such a cool model.Must admit I'm mixed on the dark eldar custodes conversion... Born Offside
Hi guys. This is an awesome, some brilliant work done so far. Are the Raven Guard still free, if so I would like to take them on.
ThisisJimmy
@Rune Priest Ridcully (which is a truly awesome name by the way) - personally I would send FW an image of those shoulder pads. They are not unusable and are repairable, but would require a bit of work and potentially some lost detail when it comes to removing some of the nastier mould lines. I mean worst comes to worse, you have to repair them yourself, best case and FW will send you a replacement set and you end up with an extra set of pads. My two cents anyway With your freehand efforts (and I don't want this to make it sound like I am an expert) try breaking up the symbol into easier to manage shapes. Perhaps with the hollow tactical arrow, paint a triangle where you want it and follow up with the 2 parallel lines. If you break it up like that rather than attempt it all in one go, you may find you are having more consistency and are able to correct mistakes as you go. I'm going to attempt the White Scars symbol freehand (emphasis on attempt :)) and I'm trying to break up the symbol into smaller bits. @Brother Chaplain Kage - That is some incredibly smooth looking green stuff work you've got going there. I can honestly say that I would have never thought of using DE bodies as Custodes, so I can plainly say that I am keenly waiting to see where you take this mate. @sheep - That is some amazing looking work there mate. That pose is truly amazing and I can't wait to see what else you manage to come up with. @Huberticus - You captured that picture to a "T" mate. I too really do like the Contemptor model, and one of the primary reasons why I wanted to do a pre-Heresy army, but for some reason I chose the only Legion that doesn't actually take Dreadnoughts :). On my own modelling front, part 1 of my vital supplies has arrived, and I have got to say that they have been some of the cleanest model casts I have ever seen, not just FW. The amount of work required was almost zero. So with that the case, hopefully I will have the rest of my demi-squad available for showing come Monday or Tuesday. Here's to hoping that my weekend isn't to hectic.
Desperta Ferro
Looking awesome so far brothers. Just a minute progress update for my night lords: Talthus and I are gonna head over to a 'local' (very loose terminology here) GW shop, so I plan on having some marines in my hands either today, or hopefully by the end of the next couple of weeks, and if the latter is the case I will spend the time waiting to gather supplies and such. subtlebrush
@Brother Chaplain Kage: Awesome work so far. Like the damned artificer suggested the Cadian command heads would definitely work. @sheep: Love the Sergeant! Like the dead marine at his feet. Any idea what Legion he'll belong to? @Huberticus: I need to get me one of these Contemptors everyones been showing off. @Rune Priest Ridcully: I would definitely send FW those pictures. They need to know when the sprues come out wonky. Maybe they'll send you a new kit!
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Kage: Have you considered some of the bare heads from the cadian command squad, like the nice scarred one as they are a good size in between marines and eldar heads ;) I've used it on my scout sergeant as I really hate the scout heads :D Also that particular scarred head could easily encompas the regal feel of a custodian :) That's a good idea! I like the scarred one a lot. There may be a couple of eldar heads I can get away with, but I imagine most of this force will have to have the coneheads in place. And OMG, the scout marine heads... so frellin awful. And they all look identical! Blech! @Brother Chaplain Kage - That is some incredibly smooth looking green stuff work you've got going there. I can honestly say that I would have never thought of using DE bodies as Custodes, so I can plainly say that I am keenly waiting to see where you take this mate. Really, I was just looking for something to minimize the amount of GS work I would have to do for the armor, and my eye happened to land on some dark eldar sprues I had laying on my desk. That, and the custodes looking less bulky than marines to me in the art... well, why not? ^_^ Sometimes my whacked out ideas end up working really well, and sometimes they crash and burn. @Brother Chaplain Kage: Awesome work so far. Like the damned artificer suggested the Cadian command heads would definitely work. Yeah, Im going to bits order some, probably next week. I got a little more work done today: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x5/Kageboshi/CustodesConcept1b.jpg The triangle shape just beneath the curved ridge of the breastplate is going to be where the piping connects, and then the big oval icon on the abdomen which will be getting lightning bolts later. I think I've decided not to do the full skirt thing, but more likely just a tabard with the cingulum leather straps down the front so I can show off the leg armor. :) Also, I haven't been able to find a picture of Custodes from the rear, but in some of the cast figures I've seen, there's a power pack. Can anyone let me know for certain if they have any kind of back pack like marines do? -BCK
sheep
Some very good work going on here guys! Jimmy: That WS is looking great, are you going to do alot more of them with bare heads? What about the facial scars? Kage: The sculpting is coming on great, I really hope you prove me wrong, can't help with the rear shot though sorry. Huberticus: Great to see the iron hands in such good hands ^_^ Ridcully: not sure about the purple, maybe white?
ThisisJimmy
Jimmy: That WS is looking great, are you going to do alot more of them with bare heads? What about the facial scars? Thanks mate. I know you can't really see them but those heads do have the scars sculpted onto them. I'm hoping to use more bare heads, simply because I really like the look, plus it will help me capture the feral look. I'm not really sure how I want to do the honour scars. I think that sculpted on would be most convincing, but I'm no 100% on how to do it. I guess I'll just have to give it a go and see what comes from it. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Kage: The sculpting is coming on great, I really hope you prove me wrong, can't help with the rear shot though sorry. Thanks! I've decided I'm not going to bother with packs, given the phoenix guard cloaks I have on the way here would make implementation a pain. @Brother Chaplain Kage: That Custodes is coming along like gang busters! Are you planning on casting them since these would probably take forever to get done lol This guy is mainly just a concept model and his body is all in one piece, so I dunno if casting him would be ideal. I guess I could have a few of those poses, but I've never tried molding and casting something like this. I've done press molds here and there, and not real sure where to start with something like resin casting. I would like to, once I start making a few multi-part custodes from the other DE figures. Rune Priest Ridcully
Would I email the photos or print them off and post them. Born Off side: WELCOME!!! :D Did a sort out of the shed, found about 12 power armour guys who just need stripping and repainting, 6 Thunder hammer and storm shield terminators, a converted captain (sadly painted before I learnt to thin paints) numerous bits and the metal ultramariens chapter banner bearer and champion, who I am thinking of ridding of the their ultra iconagraphy and then using in the Heresy <_<
Born Offside
Thanks guys, very excited. Considering setting them during Drop Site Massacre, which possibly gives me the best chance for modelling opportunities, but it will mean no Corvus armour. Although that may be a good thing as it will differentiate them from post heresy RG.
