As you can see I am continuing with the battle worn beaten to hell look of the marines, and persevering with the sea green scheme because I think the official FW scheme looks like :).

Cant wait for the new FW goodies!

That sergeant is just breathtaking, just everything about him screams 30k/40k (I am sorry, but the that green is so nice, if some warmoaster told me to repaint it I'd introduce him to my thunder hammer... Now I have an idea for a son's of horus/black legion charecter for black crusade now...)

Thanks guys :) glad I can do the idea of this thread proud

RPR: lol, had a mental image of Horus chasing them around with a can of chaos black primer.

Mordant hex: I'm really happy you like them that much mate, I hope that they provide some inspiration for your work :)

Great stuff there sheep, as per usual. Loving the colour and battle damage, they go really well together.

In White Scars news, I've managed to finish off my Stormseer to a stage when I can get cracking on it. Standing in my way is the weather unfortunately, it has been pretty cold and wet here, and it looks like it won't clear up until Saturday or Sunday; so I'll have to see how things pan out. In the meantime I've just been fiddling with the remains of my Tactical squad and their transport.

Cheers

EC assault Squad: front and back. 3 plasma pistols. I know the gore seems a bit much, but i figured they would be beat and bloodied just as much as any WE. Yes the Red is brighter than i would normally do, but its Astarte's blood and fluff says its brighter red than normal human blood so thats the reasoning i went bright red. Next up, devastator squad!

I think im more than caught up with the Emperors Children, but I went ahead and started on my Devastator squad. The pictures don't really show the Metallic Purple very well But hopefully later I can take some better pict's with more work done to them and it will show. Without the battle damage and paint chipping they look so very nice and clean. B)

A hand Towel and then a brushing down with a damp large soft brush. The towel will take off most of the dust and then you can get in the cracks and such with the soft brush. I run into this problem also sense i have a Congo line of models that are waiting to be painted.

Hello Brothers!

Before I start with my September contribution, two things: Firstly, well done all and keep it up! The stuff on here makes me honoured to be a part of this project and alongside such talent! Secondly, my apologies for my belated September contribution and for the shoddiness of the photography. The reason for both of these things is that I've been moving into my new apartment so time and light boxes have been scarce :)

Now then, the models!

Ultramarines, Post 5, Assault Squad

Here we have an assault squad of 9th company. Admittedly there is still some extreme edge highlighting to do and also the bases, but I wanted to get some pics up to join the great contributions that have been popping up recently!

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h451/Zaevin/015-1.jpg

The idea with these guys is that 9th company weren't hit so hard by the opening barrage and ambush of the Word Bearers, so they served more as a retaliation unit, striking out at isolated Word Bearer positions before they are eventually driven into the Sub-terranean tunnels of Calth.

One thing I was wondering if I could have your opinion on in particular is this guy who happens to be my first attempt at plasma-glow effect.

I tried to have focal points with white spots and to alter the consistency for the different materials like gold, cerulean and gun metal.

My October pledge is going to be my HQ choice, none other than captain Ventanus. This one is more of a modelling experiment for me in order to sculpt more actual limbs and armour plates than using only bit-bashing and gap-filling techniques.

Once again, to all, well done and keep it up. I hope to see a lot more of the same and better! Hope my humble contribution is suitable ;)

As always comments welcome.

The squad looks really nice, though I do think you may have gone a bit mad on the glowing affect (It looks great, just not sure if a plasma pistol would glow over that much of his body) Do you mind if I pass on your technique for the Macragge pattern helmets to a friend? The flames of heresy have risen in my uni gaming club, with the club president doing Sons of Horus and another guy doing Ultramarines (He was muttering about his "Precious" aka FW sets for his first squad arriving today all the way through our game :P) and he was thinking of including them but not sure how to do them. Should have the Whirlwind cleaned and hopefully touched up by tomorrow evening.

I agree with RPR, it looks as though the plasma glow is in places it shouldn't be, especially seeing as he's holding it away from his body. The effect itself looks good, it just shouldn't be where it is. (front of the pistol, on the opposite side of a raised surface...)

Good work though

I like your style Mordenthex :)

Runepriestridcully: Sure, I'd love to see what other people do with it. I know I say this every week but real life keeps sledge hammering me back to uni work or training, but I WILL post a tutorial this month at the latest for my g-stuff helmets and armour marks!

Thanks guys :) I'll see about toning the green on the armour down when i finish the models. Looking forward to seeing more :D

Well the Whirlwind has been washed, and it turned out I had painted it fairly thinly, and their were fingerprints in the paint :D After some file and scalpal work, I was able to give her a new coat of Snot green, using the last of it up (I may have some more at home, but I'm at uni :P So will pop into town, I'm thinking of trying Vajjello as GW helpfully decided to stop their paints and replace them with ones that don't match.) chaos black and repainting the Drakes head.

Yes I know about the holes, am sure I have a couple of the bit that goes over it spare, not sure if it will fit over the salamander details though.

I am tempted to do a different color other then red on the end bit, not sure which though, more purple possibly?

"Where do you need fire suppport?"

gallery_49955_7416_17533.jpg

And now the next 5 men of the tactical squad, the shortage of Snot green has hit them hard. These were the worst FW models I have had, whilst they replaced the pads, I found as I assembled them, pretty much all of it was effected, and even can be noticed on the helmets. It was close to finecast quality, I got these guys about June, so if anyone has bought FW stuff since please tell me the quality is back up, otherwise I may go crazy making this force. The old metal Heavy weapons seem to fit perfectly though, so will try and use them for all heavy weapons.

Captain Ubaid with a guy who I put together from spares I found and a guy in Mk II who was a fallen marine as an ally of my thousand sons who will be repainted.

I am not sure what to do with the panels on the whirlwind, I think originally I went for a dark stone and bronze effect, but am now thinking of doing the lightning bolts like the veteran's helmet, not sure about the stone or what to do with the flames on the right door.

Looking good gentlemen :) those ultras look really slick. The OSL is a nice touch, and they don't deserve chipping since they didn't actually do anything in the heresy ;)

Just a quick post to show the next 5 marines PIP.

FOR THE WARMASTER.... erh, I mean for the Emperor.. :D They are looking good as ever, and I'm now wishing I could make a big enough order to mix marks like that, applied/handed cv's out so hopefully the Salamanders will be able to rebuild after Isstvaan quickly ;)

Could I have people's opinions on the captain's plasma pistol? I am going to file down more of the original arm, so it doesn't come out across as long, but I'm not sure on the pistol itself, should I use the one I currently am, or should try and use a loyalist one or even one of the fw ones? What do people think?

Finally decided on the direction I want to take this force, and that is devastator company, so that means Tacticals with devastator squads, Whirlwind and other tank squadrons, apothecaries, possibly some terminators and yes, a Contemptor dreadnought (I'm thinking of asking for that one for Christmas :P ).

I'm thinking of putting some eyes on my Salamanders, as it seems it was a symbol pre heresy and if Sanguinius still had them on his armour then the loyalists can't have removed them all at once.
