MordentHex
That is embarresing ;) Will have a look around, but can't remember seeing any smaller brushes in the cheap shops and all the smaller ones were about £5, which for a very thin brush, which sets off the same alarms bells as does more then half of GW new chaos releases :P.Will look for a smaller brush (it is a bit puffed up from water in the pic, but still, painting bases must take ages for you.) If you have a WH Smiths nearby you could try there. I picked up a 000 brush from there a few years ago for about £1.50, pretty good brush too ;) Al the stuff I've seen in this thread looks awesome, just wish I could indulge in FW goodness :( Greed, It may take time but finding cheaper alternative brush's is worth it once you find them. They may not be the most durable brush's but for the cost they are still well worth it in convenience when your brush's start to go down hill from use. My cheap old brush's i use for smoothing out accidental primer blobs and basing. works well with smoothing out greenstuff too.
ZAChos
I personally think you're better off developing brush control than spending loads of time and money on tiny brushes. I have small brushes that I use for the really fine details, but most of the time its more about having a pointed brush, whatever the size. Rune Priest Ridcully
IT LIVES!!!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHHA! Sorry about that, was a bit worried the thread had gone the way of the lost legions there. My salamanders should be done by next weekend, been busy with essay research that has been screwed up by the poor library admin, apparently, instead of holding the book on Assyrian sculpture I asked them to, they held one on computer science and one on medical chemistry, plus the email telling me I had to return a book early due to it being recalled turned out to be wrong, it was another that had been recalled and now I have a fine, and so the past week or so have been me trying to find books that have not been taken out with a waiting list a dozen long. Plus I have been painting infinity, starfleet, and Anima tacitcs models  Everything looks great, from the excellent death guard, alpha legion and Iron hands to the as ever envy/awe generating Imperial fists, though I'm thinking the damned in the damned arteficer's name may refer to how he got the models in addition to gaining his conversion/painting skills ;)
Urauloth
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h451/Zaevin/PreHeresyUltramarines010.jpg Those helmets... my god. I was going to ask you where you got them, but you sculpted them? Wow.
Rune Priest Ridcully
I do apologize about the lack of salamanders, they are basically done except for the legion symbol, which is driving me crazy.
DarkMark
The head is from the DA sergeant from the Dark Vengeance kit with added hair in green stuff :) Which is basically a hair removed Blood Angel's head from the Sang Guard box. Check that box and the Death Company too, iirc, for similar versions. :P

Check that box and the Death Company too, iirc, for similar versions. ;) That may very well be, but those Adonis hairdos just doesn't fly in the 7th legion ;) besides, it originally needed to look like templarscrusade01 and thus it was I choose that head :P
Rune Priest Ridcully
Working on essay so can't work on the salamenders much at the moment, but has anyone seen the forge world bundles? Must admit I am tempted to try and either split one, or if I can save the money, split 2 between myself and several guys so we can have some variety. MordentHex
just seen that thanksto you. :) That is o so very very tempting. I come to china, and just end up throwing my money away on Forgeworld.....ironic.... :)
Rune Priest Ridcully
Well here he is, finally finished, Captain (Preator) Jethro Ubaid of the Salamanders 13th company.
the damned artificer
Ridicully, that gold would really benefit from some shading, like some sepia wash :P that would really lift the paintjob :P
Rune Priest Ridcully
Sure I had some round here, it's been a while since I've done anything really, blame the Neanderthals and Assyrians... Would a sepia ink do? I'm also planning o do another layer of white on the white bits as the wash/varnish dirtied it up a bit more then I expected. the damned artificer
Yeah ink should do fine, maybe just thin it a little first :P
Rune Priest Ridcully
Have done a layer of white over the holster. "UNTO THE ANVIL OF WAR! IN THE FIRE ARE WE FORGED!FOR VENGEANCE! FOR NOCTURNE! FOR VULKUN! FOR EMPEROR AND IMPERIUM!" Captain Jethro Ubaid, battle of Ikevar II.

Ironwrought Huw
By the Throne! I fear that there's going to be a lot of disappointed Imperial Fist fans if FW's version of Dorn doesn't look that impressive... Rune Priest, I really like the captain figure, that's a great use of the old chapter master figure. Looking good :D I've finally thrown off the shackles of essay writing (including such gems as - Naval weaponry and tactical developments during the Anglo-Dutch Wars), and like my Iron Hands, I rise again to smite the enemies of Manus! Apologies for the lack of updates, but for the past 2 months I've had 9000 words of papers to research and write. Well, Forge-Wright Huw is complete (apart from the name, which needs Iron-Hands-ifying) The conversion beamer is removable (it's a really tight fit. I'll magnetise/pin it at a later date) This was my first ever attempt at doing a "power-field" effect on a weapon, and I'm pretty happy with it. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011839-3_zpsd5c373a6.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011840_zps3e329505.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011841-1_zps53ccd5f0.jpg And finally - the heavy gunners from my A/T clave are finished. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011843_zps3f958300.jpg Next up I've got some veterans to build and paint. Rune Priest Ridcully
So i revisited the first five guys in a break between coursework after I finished the captain: And here is the first five guys of Excelbiuron's veterans (Not sure on his name yet, on his fluff he is a terran veteran) who I did after getting home. I'm thinking of trying to greenstuff/grey stuff a cloak similar to the captains, the idea being he is a veteran from Ubaid's company, and thus one of his "Whitecloaks" (a custom from the region of terra captain Ubaid was recruited from, that he introduced for his honourguard and veteran sergeants). I have also realised I left the wash/in I used on everyone at reading, which is going to be annoying, so may either pop back for it or jut get everything ready for when I get back to do it. Not sure about the cloak and wherever I could pull it off. To anyone with Betrayel, what are the options for devastator sergeants and apothecaries?
the damned artificer
They look really good mate :) And to answer your question, here are no devastators in 30k ;P Okay seriously, a heavy support squad sergeant can have a heavy weapon matching the one type carried by his squad or a plasma pistol/combi bolter/bolter, a nunchio vox and a combat blade/chainsword, artificer armour, augary scanner, melta bombs, power weapon/powerfist. Apothecary can have augury scanner/combi-weapon/volkite charger and powersword/chainsword, artificer armour.
Rune Priest Ridcully
Thank you!The vox is the one that allows them to shoot at deepstrikers isn't it? Or is that the scanner? I'm thinking of doing either one squad of ten with plasma cannons, or 2 squads of 5, one with plasma and one with lascannons, so I'm thinking Artificer armour, both the vox and the scanner and a power weapon of some kind could be good for the, and would then easily transfer over to 40k. I'm planning on artificer armour for all characters and everyone who can take it as it seems charecteristic for the salamanders. Must admit, the idea of 10 plasma cannons in one squad with an attached apothecary is making cackle :) And everything is looking good, Huberticus, did you buy several f the heavy weapon packs or somehow manage to get the lascannons separate? I must admit I'm only keen on the pre heresy autocannon and lascannon designs (will be using old metal plasma cannons for my devestator squad) and am hoping they will release a lascannon pack.
