A tale of 20 gamers, a galaxy asunder.

Not the best, trying to justify it as a travel and intial contact mag, box mags in belt. But ill be honest I was excited that there were two in the dev kit, till I cut them out and tried to use them. Ive cut the handles off, shaved a little here and there and they still look like trash. Who thought that was a good design??? Ive seen a couple on here that look great but its becuase they are modified. Ill give them a little more time to see if I can make it work but my skills there are marginal so my two HB brothers may be stuck with shooting heavy slugs in small burst.

Given all that work when I look at them they look alot better with mags LOL

Alright, if those Thousand Sons are still open, I should be able to fit them in, so long as you continue at this pace. Watch. You're going to declare that we need a battle company by the end of the week right after this post. But anyways, put me down for the Thousand Sons. One of the greatest legions ever.

Just ordered a set of MKIV Plate from FW and some Ultramarines Shoulder Pads from GW so I reckon I will begin them next week. I did however start work on the leader of the Ultramarines I'll be using, Captain Ventanus of the 4th (correct me if I'm wrong). Pictures of a WIP will be up later tonight.

Just like to say how glad I am to be on board so cheers everyone and good luck :)

nice Bllod angels, especially the battle wear, how did you do that? Would like to try that on some of my guys, to show the effects of Isstvan.

@Talphus: I am going for the darker scheme in all probability, I'm aiming for them to be similar to keith's salamanders http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...anders&st=0

Thanks Rune Priest ridcully !,

The battle wear is truly simple. I used a stippling brush, but now theses http://www.microbrush.com/hobby/products/m...sh/benefits.asp to apply scorched brown on edges and plates. I than use a fine detail brush or a stippling brush to apply boltgun metal over the scorched brown. For finished details i will Hilight the edges of the wears with macharius orange.

The Damned Artificer, Post 1 - WIP Legio VII - The Imperial Fists

Okay so this first post will basically be a quick recap of what I have in the army so far, so a shot introduction and then a heap of pictures

++Introduction++

My pitch on the Imperial Fists is somewhat different from most pre-heresy armies seen around, especially pre-heresy imperial fists, as I have chosen to place them in the middle of the great crusade instead of the end or start of the Horus Heresy. The main cause for this is that I didn't want an army where Sigismund was already 1st captain, he is instead the company champion of the first company, personal champion of Rogal Dorn and next in line for the spot of 1st captain. This leaves me with the possibility to build another 1st captain, as the model I wanted for the commander did not fit the bill as Sigismund imo.
Also this is a long time before the Council of Nikaea, this means I can have librarians in the army without contradicting fluff.
The marines themselves will be themed heavily on the power armour marks available to the legions at this time, meaning mainly MK II, MK III and a few suts of MK IV as this pattern will still be under development and the process of re-arming the entire 18 legions with maximus battle plate have not yet been started and as such only a select few will wear this type of armour in either segments or full suits as I would imagine that parts of the suits would be distributed to the legions for in-campaign repairs and field testing of the new suits in battle. Other than that there will be a high number of artificed armour parts and suits as it would only make sense for the first company to have earned plenty of honours and given acces to more specialized armour and even relics such as incorporated parts of Thunder armour.
Cataphract terminator armour is of course almost mandatory and there's gonna be a squad and a HQ available in this hallowed armour variant, and the newly introduced Tartaros pattern will also feature heavily in the army as befits a Legio Astartes First Company.
I've invented some fluff for some of the individual models to explain why the models look like they do, which can be found in my IF thread in my signature as it will take a while to explain here, but I might feature it later on.

I also intend to make good use of the fact that the legions sent marines to serve under the banner of their brother legions for periods of time to make inter-legion brother bonds an strengthen the legions as a collected fighting force. This will mainly be by making single legionaries from other legions serving in the imperial fists as I have a few ideas for other legion marines that I'd like to do as well. Also I might end up doing whole squads from other legions to represent them being assigned to specific missions alongside the IF, maybe even another primarch and his bodyguard, who knows :P

++The pictures++

The only two models that are completed are the test model and the contemptor, the rest is still in a WIP stage with the Proteus being the one closest to completion as it only needs detail work and a bit more weathering.
The test model for the army

The first contemptor, I might get another one as they are amazing models.

A Proteus Land Raider, the first of the tanks that will be in the army, hopefully it will soon be joined by a few deimos pattern tanks and maybe even a Spartan.

The first tactical, I'll probably finish this one off for the first deadline, and hopefully a few other things.

As of no the only Land Speeder fr this army, even though I might built another one or maybe two in the future.

The first 5 Tartaros trminators, the second squad may also end up in the Legio VII, but I might go in a different direction with them.

The command squad featuring from left to right; Sigismund Legion Champion, Legion standard bearer with the revered and ancient battle relic the Roma (the banner), The first captain (still unnamed), an apothecary and the first chaplain.

That Land Speeder looks awesome! Great job on that.

Oh artificer you make me green with envy.

Loving your version of Dorn.

I would say he's the best version I've seen made.

http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee354/SteffenSJensen/Pre-heresy%20Imperial%20Fists/DORN.jpg

Not to say that TDA's Dorn is not good, because it is(and I might even be a little jealous), but of all the versions I've seen of the VII Primarch, I think Angela Imrie's from the 2007 Golden Demon is the best:

Thanks Brother Chaplain Kage and Mr. Malevolent ;)

And I can only gree that Angela Imrie's Dorn is the best model ever made of Dorn by anyone ever (I'll be more than happy with having the second best Dorn though XD ), it's absolutely gorgeous and was a great inspiration for starting on my own which, when I get the time to start sculpting it, will also have the intricate ornamentation all over the armour plates as that is one of the lovely features of Dorn that I won't leave out.

I also took a great deal of inspiration from this image by Slaine69 over at deviantart ( http://slaine69.deviantart.com/ )

The image is a speed paint over a Photo of actor Stephen Lang from his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch in Avatar.

Check him out he has loads of extremely cool 40k and 30k paintings and sketches that will make you drool :D

If anyone else stumbles across great artwork like this I think it could be cool if we made the inspirational posts a recurring element in this project log as it might help motivate each other on our individual legion builds ;)

Oh man, some good stuff from Slain69. That Angron pic... wow.

Sadly, as I was scrolling down in anticipation of more cool Primarch pics, the one I was really hoping to be all kinds of awesome... was not. Not a fan of the Perturabo pic.

However, I was amazed to see all of these were done by the same guy. He has quite a wide range styles.

I was thinking of starting a thread like this after seeing a tale of 17 gamers too (altough, it seems I missed this one). I was going to start a Pre-Heresy World Eaters army, but I decided to do some PH/HH Eldar first anyway. After all, who are all these marines going to fight?

Nice, I'm still going to be keeping track of this thread. I suppose this is more Heresy era than Pre Heresy then?

The term pre-heresy has been washed out imo by too many building armies that they like to call pre-heresy armies even though they should be called Heresy era armies as they set them thematically in the heresy itself, that is why I refer to my own army as a Crusade era army ;)

I for one wouldn't mind seeing some xenos in this thread, but I think it'll be too muddy concept wise  But you could start a Heresy era joint xenos thread, as it is true that the Legio Astartes need something to hurl shells at XD

I'm really looking forwards to this :D Lots of anticipation

My MK3 squad has arrived, ready for the project.

Before I start, quick question.

I have 2 contemptors in an undercoated state - I built them up and undercoated them 2-3 months ago, but never got further with them because of my exams.

Can I finish one of them for this project on month? Or would that be unsporting/unfair? I'd be willing to use it as fraction of a months entry.

Just curious, and I won't be offended if the response is 'no'.

Cheers

First, holy crap artificer!

Thanks for showing all those amazing pics of our wonderful Primarchs.

@Huberticus: I'd say go ahead and use one of the Contemptors for this month, thats fine. I only put a minimum of a 5 man squad to allow those who haven't started their force to begin small (like myself haha). If you already have stuff and your currently working on something like a Contemptor thats fine. Just remember this thread is purely for motivation so any of your contributions will be awesome for the group!

Not to say that TDA's Dorn is not good, because it is(and I might even be a little jealous), but of all the versions I've seen of the VII Primarch, I think Angela Imrie's from the 2007 Golden Demon is the best:

See I'm probably the only 40k hobbyist who dosent like her version of Dorn.

It just seems "off" proportion wise for me.

Sorry I'm a bit picky haha.

Where does that axe come from fine sir?

In fact, where do all those pieces come from? Is it Red Scorpion stuff?
