Master Barachiel
Hey Wolves, as a Deathwing/Dark Angel player it's kinda weird that I'm actually posting in the SW subforum. Yet do I have a good reason for it. When I learned that the Space Wolves can have a pure Terminator army by using Logan Grimnar I couldn't resist taking a look in your codex. And I was amazed by the quantity of weapons, the Wolf Guard can choose. Your terminators are cheaper than Deathwing terminators and have a similar ability to mixing weapons but aren't fearless. I guess that's still a good deal for terminators. Anyway, what I was amazed to find out was that the Wolf Guard terminators may all replace their weapons for a PAIR OF POWER FISTS. So you'd get a bonus attack with the Power fists. It wouldn't be so bad to lose the storm bolters as the terminators may still get the Cyclone Missile launcher and usually they just shoot once or twice in a game. Terminators most times don't have a higher Iniative than 1 due to the fact that they got no grenades, so why not using full close-combat potential. But despite all that the best reason for trying this out would be the amazing fluff behind. I mean Terminator thugs who are hitting their enemies to death is very Space Wolves-like to me. --- I'll certainly try to get at least about 20+ Terminators armed this way although I know the conversion will be very hard. I'll need to sculpt right-handed powerfists for them. But now I want to hear your opinion. What do you think about it? Is it fluffy? Is it a good idea in regard to the rules? Hfran Morkai
Fluffy, yes. A Wolf Guard is expected to fight with what he feels most comfortable with, so maybe one is more at home crushing the life out of his victims and relishes two Power Fists. Rules wise, I don't know how effective it is but if it looks cool I'm sold, plan on making one like this with the FW Terminator weapons kit. Iacton Qruze
for your conversion, the easiest thing might be to start with off-handed lighting claws, cut off the claw part, and clean up the fist. Master Barachiel
for your conversion, the easiest thing might be to start with off-handed lighting claws, cut off the claw part, and clean up the fist. Thank you sooo much for this tip. That will be so much easier than sculpting. And it leaves options e.g. for left-handed claw + storm shield. Great idea. --- @Mikal Wolfheart: I'll find out about the effectiveness by playing. But I've learned so far that Storm Bolter shooting is not even half as useful as one would assume. Especially against other Power Armour-wearers. And if we're honest most people play something wearing a Power Armour. Iacton Qruze
np, I had to tackle that myself at one point when I did a PF/SS combo. It just came to me as I was sitting there staring at my sprue. Ethzor
I did the same when I was doing my Lone Wolf, althogh I glued on the chain bit from the chainfist. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254703-thuggy-wolf-guard/#findComment-3096393 Share on other sites
CainTheHunter
I did the same when I was doing my Lone Wolf, althogh I glued on the chain bit from the chainfist. I chose to reposition Storm Shield instead - chain fist on the left hand, storm shield - all modifications of which all also come left-handed - on the right hand. Although he might look cool, it is probably more effective and efficient to give two models a single Power Fist, than it is to give one model double (same goes for Lightning Claws, by the way). Iacton Qruze
a combi of some sort. I like Combi-plas/WC, myself. or you can go SS, though the way 6th looks, the things you'd tackle with a WC are not the things that you would need SS defense against. Valerian
Agreed, Combi-plas is cheap, effective, and quite safe from TDA. If you need a Storm Shield in the unit, I'd give that to the guy with Power Weapon, that way it is not a big loss if he tanks his 3++ save when shot in the face with a Lascannon. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Is TDA now 3+/3+ with a SS?? Or is that a typo Valerian?? End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254703-thuggy-wolf-guard/#findComment-3097003 Share on other sites
Iacton Qruze
TDA is still 2+. Terminators got a huge buff this edition. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254703-thuggy-wolf-guard/#findComment-3097025 Share on other sites
Valerian
Is TDA now 3+/3+ with a SS?? Or is that a typo Valerian?? End of Line No, the 3++ was for the Storm Shield, since Lascannon are AP2, and the regular TDA save wouldn't be available. So, what I was trying to relay was that I prefer to put Shields on cheap models, instead of ones with other upgrades. That way I can freely allocate AP1 and AP2 hits to them (to preserve others in the unit), without having to worry about losing a guy with multiple upgrades. That make sense this time around?
