madeofhatev2
How about starting with the explanation with "It's basically the Roman Empire..... IN SPACE!" Pope
Thanks for all the responses everyone! I really appreciate all your input. Since I initially posted, I gave her Horus Rising, but she just couldn't grasp it right off the bat, had to read the first chapter a few times, and just didn't really follow it very well. She got about 75 pages in, and then sort've threw in the towel, a lot of it just went way above her head, or right past her. IE - how "delicious" Horus killing the "Emperor" was etc. Not to be deterred, I gave her a few options. She even read all of your replies. She decided the 'easier' read may be the best way for her to get into the lore, and picked up my Space Wolf Omnibus last night, and I'm proud to say, she's already 100 pages in, and really digging it. It's my hope that once she finishes a few of the books, and hearing about the Allfather, Russ and the Traitors, she'll be more akin to taking another stab at the HH. If not, well we have plenty of 40k fluff to go through as well. I'm sure if I can get her into one of ADB's books, I can entice her into the HH with the promise of TFH. Thanks again all. -Pope Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254711-so-wants-to-get-into-the-fluff-wrong-place-to-start/page/2/#findComment-3099752 Share on other sites
Chaplain ChonkE
Awesome to hear! Viking Death Marines in Space always rule. TFH is not a small bite to chew but it is a tasty morsel if your ladyfriend likes character development. I keep a copy in my work truck with Ibsen, Heinlein, Verne and Homer. Glad to hear she is getting into it. Or cares enough about ya to lie about getting into it to make ya happy! Either way, good stuffs!
