6th Edition Fortifications

So allies and army changes aside, I'm fairly positive the first change I'll be making will be the addition of some sort of AA defense bunker. I'm considering something more along the lines of a pillbox + trench + AA turret (rules/points permitting) but not something that has been painted/constructed as though its been a part of that battlefield for years upon decades.

Ultimately, I want a piece of terrain that looks impromptu and impermanent, like a manufactured bunker meant to be drop-podded or thunderhawk-delivered so aesthetically I can have it looking like a chunk of the Fang has been deposited on the field, regardless of how alien it might be.

Despite my own idea, I'd now like to pose the question to my brothers and sisters in the Fang as to how you intend to incorporate the Fortifications into your army and/or if you have a structure already waiting?

I would like to encourage you all to submit pictures (be it completed terrain pieces or inspirational reference photos) whenever possible to help illustrate your ideas.

Well it's only a single Fortifications slot, which is unfortunate, as I've got a whole Imperial Strongpoint set sitting around not seeing much use. I'll most likely simply be adding some Aegis lines or a Bastion to a few of my games now and then. Mostly as a place for my Long Fangs to hunker down. Still I expect I'll be taking along Bastions more often with my Imperial Fists or Imperial Guard than with my Space Wolves.

However I can see the possibility for adding a cool piece of narrative terrain. For the Marines I think it would be cool to have a type of hilltop sandbag fortification with a banner in the middle. Or a defensive line made out of the giant bones of a Kraken or something.

An example a friend of mine did for his iron warriors army was a Hill fortified with an almost completely surrounded base circle of aegis line and then the top had a completely surrounded aegis line. It worked well fluffi-wise.

One idea i had was to build an aegis gun line made up of wreckage from two crashed thunder hawks ( No FW models will be hurt in the construction of said terrain  ))

another terrain piece i plan on making is a fortified cliff/mountain structure with mine cave in the back end of it. Weapons out the sides, possibly stuff on top depending on what kind of upgrades there are. Counts as bastion.

but more 40k universe

I have pdf of a command HQ center that can be made out of card board . looks something like the old rhino . I was thinking of adding a gun turrett with 4 barrels on it . either that or a variation on the dread naught drop pod ( again a card pattern ) .

I like the drop pod concept , I think it works with the army .

Does anyone know if there are any size guidelines for the various fortifications ?

Can't wait to make my own fortification...something along the line of a roasted pig above an open fire surrounded by barrels of ale....who needs Aegis defenses when you can have ale barrels??

Perhaps explosive ale barrels? There's rules for that now!

Ok... That's fixable I think. If you have any of the half cubes with just 2 socket pegs, glue them to some cereal box cardboard and coat the base with sand. You can then paint them to look like defense line tank traps and paint the pegs to look like emergency road construction strobe lights after filling them with putty/glue.
a massive tower with ulrik the slayer ontop of it! every unit of grey hunters can draw line of site so get ld10 and with the reduced need to have fists in a unit this will allow you to take 2xspecial weapons and save elite slots as having a wolfguard pack leader want to so vital.

You've all had close to a year, so time to resurrect this thread!

Actually, I have a question to pose. My plans for an ADL got sidetracked by a dire need for more Grey Hunters. And I've gotten around to playing more lately and still need one, so until I can convert a proper SW version, I'll be using a generic one.

Thing is, I hate the kit. Much prefer the trenches from the wall of martyrs. So here's my question: would anyone be opposed to playing against either of these compositions?

I circled the trenches with the ADL walls to illustrate how they're still the same proportions, just doublesided.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts, and also to see what others have come up with over the months.

I'm waiting for my second Lucius Pattern droppod to arrive. going to cut it up and glue stuff on it, if my mod-fu allows it, so it comes down, opens up with walls to hide behind, and a lasscannon ready to be manned... I'll post pix in a few years, when I've managed to completely f*ck it up :P

That first one's close enough that, outside of a tournament, I don't think there should be an issue. The significantly increased length of the second layout is more problematic, since the enclosed fortification is a pretty big advantage against outflankers and drop pods. Also, the bunker looks big enough to hide a tank behind, which you can't pull off with a regular ADL (That is, you might be able to block LOS entirely to a rhino behind that bunker at the right angle, whereas I don't think that's possible with the normal ADL without a lot of additional obstructions.

I had a feeling this concern might crop up, and I agree, but wanted to gauge some outside perspectives. Mostly due to it having a perfect mounting point for a quadgun on top of the bunker.
