Brother Gabe
First off, yeah, I know that 6th Edition is only a few days away and that when it is released that effective play-styles may change... but I will ask this anyways ;). So, partly due to a lack of funds, and partly due to rumors that I have heard rumors about nerfed vehicles in 6th Edition, I have deiced that I want to build a foot sloggin' army. This got me wondering whether I should focus on sheer numbers, or cut back a bit on the amount of warriors and instead go heavier on HQ and Elite choices (maybe add a dreadnought). So to be competitive, should I focus on the quality of my force, or the quantity of guys I can get out into the mayhem? vtec407
I've been thinking about this as well. I run a footsloggng force and can't decide if I should bulk up with 10 man grey hunters fully kitted or cut back a bit and spend some points on a dreadnought and/or temies. I'd probably suggest adding a dreadnought. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254817-quality-vs-quantity/#findComment-3098344 Share on other sites
WyrdWolf
From what I've seen so far, footslogging terminators will be a great choice for us. Preferred Enemy is supposedly going to apply to shooting now, that means if you run a wolf priest with a terminator squad twin linked cyclone missile launchers and twin linked assault cannons, as well as storm bolters, and power weapons being nerfed to AP3 means we get our 2+ armor saves on power weapons now, which is going to increase close combat survivability by a bunch for terminators. I saw something about acute senses changing to allow outflanking re-rolls, but i don't know if i'd put much stock in that. We have the cheapest stock terminators in the game, 33pts for a terminator with a storm bolter and a power weapon. that means a 10 man squad with 2 cyclone missile launchers is 390 points. I wouldn't call this too shabby. If you run them all stock it would be 330 points per squad. 935 points for 20 terminators plus Logan Grimnar, before upgrades. I don't know about you guys but that sounds like a decent deal to me. Toss in a 120pt wolf priest and you're still sitting under 1250. For an entire army with preffered enemy on at least something...call me crazy but I think terminators with CML's are going to be a very competitive and fun choice. (snap firing with CML krak grenades!) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254817-quality-vs-quantity/#findComment-3098413 Share on other sites

I'm afraid that's true, I've seen the entry in the book. I'm hoping we get it FAQed to be the night fighting one. Not to mention night-fighting doesn't happen nearly as often. eyeslikethunder
Night fighting is every mission now from the rumors Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254817-quality-vs-quantity/#findComment-3099197 Share on other sites
Jonny Wolf
nightfighting is a Warlord trait and it can be rolled for in missions so it will be more prevelant Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/254817-quality-vs-quantity/#findComment-3099206 Share on other sites
WyrdWolf
I hope scouts keep acute senses, and we also get given night fighting =D EDIT: speaking of FAQ's how quickly after the rulebook "officially" comes out do you think they'll get put up? If GW was smart they'd already have the FAQ's taken care of, and have them posted the exact minute the book officially goes on sale. Brother Gabe
Hmm, I will have to play around with this terminator idea. But for the price, wouldn't it be better to field 2-3 times the amount of soldiers as grey hunters instead? I am thinking about going heavy on grey hunters, maybe 4 full 10 man squads in a 1750 point list along with a full pack of 15 blood claws and some long fangs. This does not leave much room for terminators, but I could cut back on existing squads to make room for some if they are really worth it... so are they? LPetersson
I would recommend waiting until you have the actual rules in your hands rather than 'rumours'. Then make some decision, but it would probably be a sensible move to wait until new FAQs are out before dropping your cash on models...
