Boarding shields?

Recommended Posts

Howdy folks, I am looking to build a squad of Heresy-era boarding Marines but the current FW kit is too 40k for my liking. I intend on using a squad of Mk.III Iron Armour as a base, but need some suitable shields. I was looking over a couple of bitz sites and came across the Bretonnian Men-at-Arms shields which look like a suitable substitute.

I was wondering if anyone has used these shields before and if they scale up and are large enough to be used with Marines.

Cheers,

Lestat

I have a squad of 10 tacticle marines that I have holding shields. These shields are Bretonnian Men-at-Arms shields that I got way back in the mid 90's when WH40k was in it's second edition. So it is the version of Bretonnian Men-at-Arms shields they had way back then. I have looked at the current Bretonnian Men-at-Arms shields and it looks like they are about the same as the ones I have. The ones I have are just a little shorter than a normal tactical marine so the coverage is awesome. So they will work. I currently use them as Sternguard with the shields only being there for show. Although I do have rules for them for home games and not shop games. I have a bolter in one hand and a shield in the other. The shield had is used freom the SM tank sprus, the arms that you can attache to a space marine torso if they were maning a storm bolter turret on top of a tank. I separated the arms to the right arm, shaved the fist down flat, shaved the inside of the shield flad and attached the shield to the flat fist. It merges well and it is never noticed. Hope this helps out. Good luck.
