Brotherhood champion now makes complete sense!

A friend and I played around with the new cc rules and challenges last night, and the brotherhood champion appears to be the challenge soaker par excellence!

2+/3++ gives him a very very decent shot at surviving a round of attacks from almost any single enemy character (especially with 1 or 2 rerolls from his unit), and even if not he has a pretty good chance to take the enemy ic with him when he goes.

The fact that not challenging just gives the chance to your opponent it seems that challenges are going to happen a lot, and not every challenge is going to go your grandmaster/librarian/BC/whatevers way (or maybe you just want him free to hit the unit), in steps his bodyguard! And either a. Soaks all the attacks or b. Rapier strikes them to death.

If you have a fancy IC in 6th, unless you are prepared to forgoe their attacks and hide someone is going to have to answer or make the challenge. I have a feeling "tag team" is about to become a common phrase in 40k circles :D

More than this the change in psychic defences for most armies makes getting the sacrifice off if you need it. The only problem with him is that his D3+1 attacks move only works against Independent characters, not characters. So he's not so good at sniping seargeants through challenges.

Indeed, he makes perfect sense now in context of 6e rules (challenges), and this is the only bit that needs to be updated (Errata/Amendment) is to change Rapier Strike to a single character vice a single independent character. Then he would be the ultimate challenger (excepting perhaps Arjac Rockfist).

And the fact that codex > rulebook, so Sword Storm would still actually hit everyone in base contact. And depending on whether or not you get the charge off, (because challenger moves to challenge is first priority) some smart placing of models may be able to get you a number of victims, including the challenge target.

This would allow him to hit non challenge models, but not be hit back by them. This is a really interesting situation.
