First game of 6th, 1k

Recommended Posts

So, had a good practise game today with a Black Templar regular I play. We agreed to 1k, as there was a lot to take in. First, the lists;

Mine:

Libby w/stave, Might, Sanctuary, Shrouding

Coteaz

Vindicare Assassin

Full Terminator unit with Bro Banner, two psycannons, two hammers, rest halberds, psybolts (had 20pts to burn)

3 x plasma cannon servitors

His:

Emperors Champ w/Accept Any Challenge (now gives Rage instead of PE, which means +2A on the charge)

Chaplain w/stuff (I think Holy Hand Grenade)

4-man Command Terminator unit with two assault cannons

5-man Terminator squad with two assault cannons

2x 5-man Crusader squad with missile launcher

Landspeeder Typhoon

Mission we rolled was 'Crusade' (D3+2 objectives), and deployment was Dawn of War (he rolled a 3 for Night Fight so it didn't happen thankfully)

He insisted we actually play the mysterious objectives (we rolled four objectives) and mysterious forest rules (there was only one forest on the map). One of the redshirts also plunked a tower on the battlefield and said 'thats an archeotech tower too', just for added random. K, didn't think much of it.

Warlord traits, ok then (I picked my Libby for Warlord). Rolled Outflank for Libby+TDA unit he was accompanying. Lol -_-

Opponent rolled for his trait, got Move Through Cover for his army. Nice I guess

I elected to swap out Coteaz's powers for two Divination powers instead. Roll 1 and 6, elected to keep 'Scriers Gaze' (to bring on Libby+Termies quickly), exchanged 'Forewarning' for the Primaris power of 'Prescience'. I calculated that re-rolls to hit is more powerful than getting Overwatch at BS and Counter-Attack, given I can't fire plasma cannons in Overwatch.

Roll off for deployment and first turn, Templar player wins. He weighs my right side with both Terminator units, then places his first Crusader squad centrefield, then the last one on the far left (both in easy movement range of his objectives). Landspeeder deploys in between Terminators and Crusader squad far back

I deploy Coteaz+servitors on my right-side objective, with my other one in the open with no cover in the middle of my DZ. I also Infiltrate the Vindicare on the far right, in an excellent high ruin to snipe his two Crusader squads. Libby+Termies are of course in Reserve.

I roll to 'Seize Initiative', get a natural 6 on the first roll. Opponent asks if I want to re-roll

Turn 1:

Coteaz casts 'Prescience' on himself and servitors. The servitors open up on the Terminators, melting two and wounding the Emperor's Champion once (no invul at range). I could only see three Terminators and the Champ anyway, so I'm pretty happy. Vindicare snipes the missile launcher out of the central Crusader unit, forcing a Pinning and Morale check (both of which they pass easily). I roll for mysterious objective on Coteaz+friends...its a shatterfield (granting +1 to cover saves whilst within 3" of objective).

Both Terminator units move up (the shot-up one Zeals as well, getting a big movement boost), hug the big ruined wall on the far right, denying LOS to my servitors. The four Crusaders in the middle move into the ruin in front of them, activating the objective and revealing it to be...a shatterfield (+1 to cover saves whilst within 3" of objective). Other Crusader squad run onto their objective, snap shots miss Vindicare completely. Landspeeder opens up on servitors, nuking one with a krak rocket. Servitors pass Morale check easily due to Coteaz.

Turn 2:

Coteaz casts 'Scriers Gaze'. I then roll 3D6 for Libby+Termies, getting a 2,4 and 6. So I choose to bring them on, rolling 3D6 against for Outflank. I get two 6's, so naturally I choose the far left table edge to come on. I move on, in easy charge range of the Crusader squad but unable to charge due to new rules for Reserve units. Coteaz also casts 'Prescience' again. In Shooting phase, servitors hit Landspeeder with only one plasma blast (even with re-rolls one scatters horribly), and it Jink saves (as it moved last turn). Vindicare snipes the missile launcher out of the second Crusader unit, before a hail of psycannon and psybolt storm bolter from Libby+friends rips apart all but one of the final dudes (he is out of LOS, so can't be killed, grrr). Last Templar left passes his Morale check, and continues to hide behind the wall that saved him.

Terminators move up again, careful to still be out of LOS of the servitors. First Crusader squad moves deeper into ruins, which servitors can see into. Landspeeder moves again and launches krak rockets and heavy bolter at Libby+friends, does nothing (2+ saves are awesome). Lone Crusader runs towards my central objective, running into the mysterious forest...which turns out to be spinethorn (2+ cover save against grenade damage, woot).

Turn 3:

Libby+friends move onto far left Templar objective, wrapping around but I only get the Justicar into storm bolter range of the fleeing lone Templar. Coteaz casts 'Prescience' once more. Servitors open up on the squad in the central ruins, wiping out three after some bad cover saves. Vindicare snipes one more who was out in the open (only got a 6+ cover save, as he was next to the objective in the open, not in the ruins), leaving one survivor in the middle. Justicar takes aim at lone Templar running towards my central objective, misses both shots (sigh).

One Terminator squad exposes just two assault cannon dudes and a storm bolter dude, tearing the only servitor they can see to pieces (only rolled a single 1 to save, all other wounds got stopped by my 3+ cover). Landspeeder moves again and launches two krak missiles into Vindicare, he rolls a 1 and 2 for cover (sigh).

Turn 4:

Libby+friends move up, trailing to leave a hammer and halberd to score the objective (by spreading out in a chain). Doing so gets some more storm bolters and a psycannon into range of the central lone Templar, easily slaying him (only 5+ cover from the forest against regular damage, even when he decided to 'Go To Ground' he failed to save against the one Rend I got with the psycannon). Coteaz casts 'Prescience', but surviving servitor can't snap shot as it has a blast weapon, so I can' move out of cover to get LOS to Terminators (as they and Coteaz are on lower level with a wall blocking LOS, neither of us can see eachother yet). I brace for assault in his turn.

Landspeeder still fails to do anything to Terminators. Predictably, he charges in with four Terminators and the Emperor's Champion to murder Coteaz. He elects to challenge, so him and Coteaz go at it. His sword bounces off my artificer armour, whilst even with re-rolls I roll a 1 and two 2's for Coteaz when rolling to hit. Servitor kicks a Terminator, fails to wound, gets crushed to death. Meanwhile, surviving Crusader hugs cover, hiding from my own Terminators whilst moving towards my objective (ie the one with Coteaz still on it).

Turn 5:

Libby+friends stay put, they only have to stay alive for me to win at this point. Coteaz and Champ swing again, I net two wounds but he saves both, whilst his attacks fail to penetrate my artificer armour (AP3 sucks tee hee). Coteaz weathers the Champs sword again, then bashes his hammer into the Champ, finally knocking off his other wound. I win, but the nearby Terminators just pile in.

Landspeeder keeps failing to do anything to my Terminators, lone Crusader continues running whilst the other Terminator unit move up to shield him from any attempt by my own Terminators to intervene. Lone Crusade gets within 3" of my objective. Terminators murder Coteaz, whilst the only wound I inflict gets saved (curses!).

We roll for Turn 6, opponent rolls a 1, game is called.

We tie on Primary (he scored with his last Crusader, I comfortably held his far left objective with a huge Terminator unit), each objective being worth 3 VP's. I win on secondary, as I got 'First Blood' for +1 victory point (killing off his far left Crusader squad entirely), and his last Crusader is not in my DZ (just out, as he's 3" from objective), so I get the 'Linebreaker' victory point as well. So, 5-3 tiebreaker.
