My first 6th edition game

I finally had a chance to play a game of 6th edition the other night, after spending a couple of evenings reviewing the rules.

Of course for this first outing I took my beloved Space Wolves and played against the Tau.

We decided on a smallish 1000 point game, a game size we felt was a happy medium, giving us a decent size game with some unit variety, while being small enough to allow us the multiple rules searching we would have to do in the book.

I posted the report itself on my Blog, the link to which is in my Signature, please feel free to check it out.

Chewing over your battle report a bit more, I think you might be buying into the whole, "mech is dead in 6th" assumption too soon.

Losing the only Rhino in your list, especially to a tooled out commander and bodyguard is a given. First of all it is the only mech in your list so that already makes it a highly likely to get fragged early. Second it was viewed as a higher threat then your bikers, much to your son's misfortune.

With the new synergy of so many units in our army list making them high threat units, opponents are going to start being pressed on prioritizing target selection. I forsee a lot of;

"Haha, I smoked your armor in turn 3. Don't you know that mech is dead in 6th?"

"Yea, you got my armor in turn 3, but my Sky Claws/Swift Claws/Grey Hunters/WGTDA/Lone Wolves/etc tabled you in turn 4. Congrats on killing my armor."

Nice battle report bitz. I too am loving the biker added rules ... And am also thinking the same about rhinos. Really disappointed with the twc having to take dangerous ground tests, just seems odd, as they need to hug cover. I love a mix of bikers and twc. Haven't tried them yet, so will have to see what they are like.
The Blood Claws x7 with a Power Axe, and a Flamer, led by Wolf Guard Hagar, with Power Axe, and Flamer. Rhino Transport

Was that a Combi-flamer on your Wolf Guard?

I rolled for my Warlord ability, taking the personal traits, rolling a one I got "Master of Defense" really? :cuss?!! So my Battle Leader on a bike, gets to give himself and the unit he is with (more bikes by the way) the Counter Attack Special rule (which they already have) while in their own deployment zone...

You didn't mention what your son rolled for his Warlord ability.

I also move my Rhino up in the shooting phase to take cover behind a wall and to prepare to get into his lines as quickly as possible.(I would have popped smoke, but I don't think I can if I move flat out)

That is correct. (BYB page 87).

Thanks for the great batrep bitz, I especially appreciate the pictures to keep events clear. I agree with you, I think 6e games are going to be a lot of fun, especially once we've all got the rules more or less memorized and don't have to keep checking the book.

The speed of vehicles now very high 18"Normal 24" fast

With disembark and emergency disembark now 6"

If you have have zipped across the board first turn and want to assault it's almost best get shot out of yourvehicle so you can charge next turn plus you have made 24" across the board in 1 turn

Edit: maybe not p79 disembarkation restrictions cannot charge in their subsequent assault phase

Loved the report LB

Looked like a fun game Ted! And you are wayyyy too young to have a 19 year old son!!!

Here's my thoughts on Mech....take enough of it, and some will get through. In a fun game against most armies, you'll b fine.

In a tournament, you'll end up facing Necrons, and then you will be in trouble. I played a really good Necron player last week with my wolves...Land Raider Crusader died turn 2, and by turn 3 all my razorbacks and vindicator were gone, as well as all but one Grey Hunter Squad and a speeder.

Hope to see you soon! They are taking sign ups for Blob's Park now, and if not there hopefully I can make the Mechanicon.

Thanks for publishing this - appreciate the time and effort involved and the clear and concise description (and pictures).

5 x heavy bolter long fangs have really taken a boost, particularly with snap shots still getting you 2.5 strength 5 hits on average on the move. Bad news for that land speeder/ork truck/dark elder raider that was out of sight before you moved. Cheap as chips too.
