How to generate Psychic powers

ok so have just been reading many of the posts scattered about the site.....so much excitement for the new rules

anyway if you fine battle brothers can just confirm if I have read this right or if Ive misinterpreted...

A GK Libby is Psychic mastery 2 or (3) with the upgrade so he generates that amount of powers from the rule book (say Divination)

so mastery (2) would give him Hammer hand +2 powers (or is it just hammer hand +1 other)

he can then purchase extra powers at 5 points each.....

now can he also exchange those purchased powers for a roll on the relevant psyker list for each power purchased???

Thanks in advance......

As far as I can tell, it's an either/or thing.

Either you go by what's in our Codex, which is starting with Hammerhand and buying additional powers from his list at 5 points each

OR

You go with one of the various allowed charts from the main book, in which case he starts with Hammerhand and gets an additional 2 (or 3) rolls. You cannot buy anything else powerwise if you do this, nor do you get access to any of the powers in our Codex besides Hammerhand if you chose this method.

Im confused when it comes to how many rolls on the powers he has.

When I read the rules for it. I think 2 extra powers(or 3 if Mastery 3) and cant exchange Hammerhand. But then in white dwarf he is Mastery 3 with 2 powers and Hammerhand. Not really easy to see whats right

The little book that comes with the psychic abilities says. "generate 1 psychic ability per mastery level, if he does so he cannot purchase additional powers, hammerhand cannot be exchanged this way"

which doesn't really help. From the wording it seems that a mastery 3 libby would get 3 rolls on the psychic disciplines chart, and that is how I interpret it, however it's not very clear.

Psychic Powers

A Grey Knights Librarian may use the psychic disciplines found

in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, instead of those in Codex:

Grey Knights. If he does so, generate a number of psychic

powers equal to his Mastery Level from the Divination,

Pyromancy or Telekinesis disciplines (in any combination)

before armies are deployed. If he does so he may not purchase

additional powers. Hammerhand cannot be exchanged in this

manner.

It's quite clear. You make a choice when you make your army list: will you buy GK powers or will you roll from the tables instead?

It's right there - where's the confusion?

Never ever trust what they do in WD. They consistently fail to follow the rules, and its completely rigged to let the shiny new codex eke out a win. If the player they get to use the opposing force isn't a complete noob, they make him take a terrible list (sometimes both).

For people who don't get the wording;

Your options are thus

1) Librarian picks powers as per normal from Codex: Grey Knights (by buying them)

2) Librarian ditches powers (except 'Hammerhand'), rolls for powers from Divination/Pyromancy/Telekinesis

If you select option 2, you roll for a number of powers equal to your Mastery level. So, the normal Mastery Level 2 Libby rolls for two powers. If you upgrade to Mastery Level 3 (don't), you can roll for three powers.

Just a note, don't swap out the Libby. He has unique and game-changing codex powers ('Sanctuary', 'Shrouding', 'Might'). Far better candidates for swapping are Coteaz (he has Mastery 2 as well, and his default powers aren't usually worth bothering with), or the dirt-cheap Malleus psychic Inquisitors (who have the hilarious additional option of going into TDA with a hammer+psycannon).
