Selleck
Does he (and the ghostknights) counts towards the 50 % (of units) in reserve restrictions? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255534-mordrak-in-6th-edition/ Share on other sites
RedemptionNL
Yes, as only units which are forced to deploy via reserves do not count, such as Drop Pods or Mycetic Spores. Mordrak is not force to Deep Strike, as he can just begin on the board. As Mordrak is an upgrade character, he and his squad of Ghost Knights only count as one unit though. Valerian
Here is one very important change for Morkrak and his Ghost Knights in 6e: Back in 5e, it was very dangerous to Deep Strike directly into cover, so a player would usually land in open terrain, and then had to choose between a) shooting from an exposed position, making the unit extremely vulnerable to enemy firepower in the next enemy shooting phase, or b) sacrificing their shooting, and running for cover. In 6e, however, you get your Armour Save to avoid becoming a casualty to dangerous terrain, so each Terminator would have to roll "snake-eyes" when landing in difficult/dangerous terrain to be removed (a roll of a 1 for the dangerous terrain check, followed by a 1 on the TDA armour save). With the unit's Stealth ability, and precision Deep Strike, you could very safely place the unit right in the middle of some Battlefield Debris (pages 104-105) for a 3+ Cover Save (wreckage/rubble), or a 4+ Cover Save (impact crater/wild undergrowth), while still getting to shoot at the enemy, and potentially take advantage of a nice Librarian "witchfire" power, like Warp Rift, or Vortex of Doom. Gaz1858
No only Libbies and Inq can choose powers from the BRB Another big downpoint for Mordrak was that in 5th Edition he could not be picked out in combat as he was an upgrade character. That has all gone now so he can be picked out and challenged like any other character Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255534-mordrak-in-6th-edition/#findComment-3109739 Share on other sites

Valerian
Look Out, Sir! Is the solution to that problem. You can't use LOS when you're in a challenge, though. However, one thing to consider is that most of the stuff that ignores his 2+ Save will strike at I1 with him. He gets, what 4-6 Master-crafted attacks at WS6, depending on who charges, and whether you've got a banner? Oh, and all he needs is to get one Wound though to either cause ID with the Strength alone, or via Force Weapon function. He'll easily kill most any other character he comes up against (although he might be simultaneously killed in the process). Yep, there's the risk. If you think he'll die in a challenge, don't accept the challenge. Reclusiarch Darius
Or take regular Terminators, who can function without their Justicar just fine? I don't get what people see in Mordrak. He's expensive, gimmicky and once he dies his unit leaves with him. 6th edition gave his unit some nice little buffs, but it doesn't change how much he costs to field. boreas
Mordrak is not the best choice for a competitive list. But he's a very cool and fun character. He brings something different from other (or generic) GKGMs. Still, tactically, he brings a very important psychological factor. Having a unit of Termies (that can even grow by one or two termies!) in your deployment zone on turn one will force many opponents to focus on him a bit too much. Although a 400pts units of 6 termies (i'd equip at least 3 more with hammers) will wreck your battle line very quickly (and possibly net you the "first blood"). Mordrak can refuse challenges and leave the 2+/4++ Termies with sword take the wounds while the hammer ones hit back. But, quite frankly, what's the percentage of challenges Mordrak can be afraid of!? Powerfist sarge? Yep, leave the unit to do the work. Termi sarge with hammer, yep, same thing. Ork Nobz w/Powerclaw (in the case of Orks, I'd deepstrike in my deployment zone anyways and just use my army to shoot the buggers to death!). But apart from that, IG, non-MC Nids, Eldar, DE, Necrons, Sisters, Daemons, Tau and non-powerfist MEq are all pretty sure to be crushed by Mordrak...
