Allied Stormtalons?

Is there much of a foreseeable benefit to allying in some Stormtalons? We do have the Stormraven, but I'm not too familiar with the use of either.

 

What would be the best C:SM HQ options to take to work them in? Unfortunately they're Allies of Convenience, so they won't really be doing much, I feel.

In first place you can field only one Stormtalon, unless you use a second FOC on 2000pt (but that means 1 additional HQ and 2 additional troops from main detachment and another allied HQ and troop before you can select the second stormtalon).

 

Stormtalon is a nice intereceptor If you want to increase the number of flyers it may be a good addition to a "Stormraven Wing".

It has a lower AV but cost less and is smaller.

Personally I don't see any tactical issue in fielding an allied Stormtalon in a GK army, especially if you want an additional flyer.

I would say your best bet is:

 

Librarian (null zone, something else)

5 Sniper Scouts

Storm Talon

 

305 points all told before any upgrades to the Storm Talon. It's rather expensive and honestly I would just try to fit in more storm ravens, even as a gunship I think it's a better buy with it's multimelta and anti-psyker missiles. The storm talon doesn't seem to know what it wants to be - a close range gunship or a long range fighter.

 

The other option is to just ask your opponent if you can field one on it's own, it's not an OMGAmazeballs unit so in casual games I would let someone do it.
