Wolfguard gunslinger 6ed

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After reading the new 6E of the rules, the one thing that stood out was the gunslinger rule.

After re-reading our codex for implications i noticed that wolfguard can swap either their boltpistol or ccw for a plasma pistol.

So I present my setup for Wolfguard Ulfgaren

Power armor, bolt pistol and plasma pistol.

I may upgrade him to have a mark of the worgen, but will see if its legal, my codex is at home.

I intend to have Ulfgaren leading a small 5 man greyhunter pack.

Not bad for 28 points.

or 2 plasma pistols for 38pts.

Out of all the named characters in the 40k universe Cypher always attracted my eye , with his gunslinger.

Now we can get an extra plasma shot off.

all you need to do is equip models as per rules with two pistols of any type....

Ive done 10 WG so far... just had the bits, sitting on another 14 pair of plasma pistols  but for 3xx points?

Add a wolf priest and go hunting terminators.

Probably want a few terminators of your own to take hits and counter assaults

I think gunslinging wolf guard will be a new deathstar unit

I would go bolt/plasma, otherwise you are really starting to sink points into a pretty fragile unit. Marines are tough, but just due to the small size and 12" range they are going to be a little fragile. Also plasma is scary so they will be targeted. I would build a gunslinger pack like so:

1 Wolf Priest, runic armor, plasma pistol, wolf tooth necklace, wolf tail talisman

2 Wolf guard with plasma pistol/Stormshield (maybe just combi-plasma's since they can't get an extra attack anyway and save some points)

3 wolfguard with plasma pistol/bolt pistol

With the new wound allocation rules you put the two stormshield guys up front, gunslingers behind. The wolf priest allows for 1 re-rolls to help prevent over-heats, as well as giving you the option to take Saga of the Hunter and outflank with them.

If not I'd just put them in a razorback or rhino to rush 'em up.

The 5 man WG squad runs 180 points, add in a razorback brings you over 200. Wolf Priest and it gets super expensive. While it has tons of "cool" factor, I would stick with just having your shooty grey hunter/wolf scout squads have a gunslinger pack leader. They seem like too much of a point sink for my taste.

Also this comes to mind since they count as CCW's:

I'm seriously thinking about making a double-Plasma Pistol Gunslinger Wolf Guard to run with my Wolf Priest (who now needs a Plasma Pistol too). Maybe give him MotW, too, just for close combat ability, although I would avoid challenges.

Attach both to a Plasma Hunter pack and Outflank. Maybe not optimized, but they'd be fun as hell to play. I wouldn't even care that I couldn't assault when I enter the board.

I think I need to build one today.

I am inclined to follow that path now :) - the idea of (afore metntioned) a wolf guard with twin plasmas, plus a plasma toting wolf priest for those preffered enemy extras speeks to me of a brilliant 'home objective' force, backed up by long fangs and a unit of hunters w/ plasmas and standard.

I'll deffo have to check out the new bits in the BRB when it arrives sometime next week :P

I'm pretty sure this has been answered elsewhere, but the search function is unresponsive for me. Can a grey hunter swap their chainsword (or boltgun) for a plasma pistol? Or are they forced to swap their bolt pistol out if they want a plasma pistol?

I know the FAQ makes this possible for wolf scouts (and wolf guards can take 2 pistols), but I'm not sure what rules source, if any, makes this possible for grey hunters.

ok this is probably extremely wishful thinking on my part.. but ..

A pistol can be used as a close combat weapon.

Does this mean the for entries in our unit wargear section we COULD possibly arm models with a second bolt pistol?

Unfortunately, No. Although pistols can be used in close combat as a close combat weapon, that won't affect the wargear selection criteria in the unit entry. To give a Grey Hunter a Plasma Pistol, you have to trade in the Bolt Pistol- trust me, I went back to see what it said, exactly.

oh no i wasn't meaning anything about trading in for a plasma pistol. Just Bolt pistol + Close combat weapon (bolt pistol). But i see what your getting at. Would have been nice to have a unit of gun slinging blood claws though
