Spear of Achilles
I'll say one thing: some characters appear to have gone from awesome to 'Why would I ever use him again?'. A good example is Khârn. Although the power weapon rules for unique would indicate he is not bound normal power weapon rules, his weapon in the FAQ is SPECIFICALLY called a power Axe and is thus Unwieldy...which means he went from I6 to I5 (New Furious Charge), to Init 1 with Power Axe rules....he is now worse than a Power-fist vanilla marine (Who he will lose to 50% of the time in a challenge) because he also kills his own guys.... Edit: Crap wrong board sorry Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255631-kharn-the-betrayed/ Share on other sites
Chaeron
I would imagine this may get changed with the new Codex - it would otherwise be worthless as you suggest. Sception
Hardly. Yeah, he doesn't like challenges with fists. So don't put him in challenges? Khârn's not a simpering slaaneshi hero or an upstart champion with something to prove. He's too busy killing everything in arm's reach to differentiate between friend and foe, let alone pick out individual enemies. Let a skull champion deal with pesky fist challenges while Khârn's slaughtering the entire rest of the enemy squad, or just wrecking any vehicle he touches, with his huge number of high strength (even more so than before), high weapon skill, AP 2 attacks. Outside of a challenge, most things can't even pick him out of the unit, and those that can he can l.o.s. on a 2+, so no biggie. In contrast, his own precision shots make his large number of attacks especially painful. Sure, unweildy means the enemy still gets to attack before he murders them all, but that just means more blood for the blood god. Look, I'm not arguing that he's been buffed overall by the changes (not like Typhus, where despite unwieldy you have to admit that he's been significantly improved by true T5 and new psychic power options), but he's hardly been ruined. Make sure your challenges are accepted by characters who care about glory and Khârn will still serve you well as a sheer slaughter engine. With the new book right around the corner, it's too soon to get worked up about him even if he had been ruined by the changes. Circus Nurgling
Have you read the rules on refusing a challenge? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255631-kharn-the-betrayed/#findComment-3111023 Share on other sites
Urauloth
Have you read the rules on refusing a challenge? Yes, but you're not going to refuse the challenge, you're going to accept it with yout champion instead of with Khârn. Your opponent issues the challenge to the unit, they can't call out Khârn specifically, and not being the character in the unit who accepts the challenge doesn't mean you count as refusing it, unless I've seriously misread something. Sception
Exactly. Opponent calls out a challenge, you accept with champ, and murder his unit with Khârn. Depending on what you're fighting you might then be out a champion, so have another nearby unit for Khârn to walk to, or put him in a chosen or termie unit with multiple champions.
