Sanguinius Chosen Wing
Thought id share just a few details of my game yesterday that will hopefully stop people making the same stupid mistakes I did. I did win but it was hardly convincing as I didnt really pay enough attention to the secondary objectives (tbh I didnt bother to read that far as ive been a little cold to everything so far) We rolled scouring with means Fast attack counts as scoring and my warlord got outflank so as he was attached to some thunderwolves it appeared to be good. The downer is that it isnt particularly unless you can really hit cover but with how easy it is to be spotted pretty much just standing there a turn getting shot at is horrible for a unit like this. The wolf scouts did well jumping from behind cover and then blowing up a rhino and taking out some dominions but overwatch with flamers is nasty. Overwatch with random rolls are pretty rough in general though and my scouts got obliterated. Anyway the rules say that even vehicles that are purchased in the fast attack count as scoring, I have no problems with that but apparently the transports count? he used a rhino he purchased for his dominions to claim an objective. I didnt argue it but it seems like as its purchased from transports and isnt itself a fast attack vehicle it wouldnt count? So anyway heres the things to watch for; Overwatch is just really frustrating if you dont have a termi/2+ save walking up front. My wolfguard in termi armour honestly made at least 30 odd saves, thinking of making all my wolfguards termi now Outflanking is ok for wolf scouts but they will be torn a new one when they attempt to assualt a squad from a transport they blew up the turn before with overwatch/turn of shooting. I outflanked with my thunderwolves and while they weathered the storm I think it would have been better to have them on from turn one If the charge is over about 7 (average dice roll) it may be better to just shoot with everything you have because if you fail they get overwatch again, which while it wont take out your entire squad it can really skew the combat The new psychic powers are interesting but I really think the ones from the codex are better as you select what ones you want Anyway if anyone else has some tiny pointers throw them up as im hoping ironing out the rules will make the game more enjoyable. Howling
Hello there, and thanks for the warning! I am a little confused though...what was inside the rhino that managed to hurt your scouts that badly with overwatch? I would assume that 10 or 20 shots with only sixes to hit and maybe 4s to wound wouldn't deal more than 1 or two wounds maximum (if you mess up your armor saves all together...), which isn't that terrible unless you only have like 5 scouts...in which case attacking whatever was inside that rhino might not have been such a good idea anyways.... Unless his opponent (not exactly sure what army he played against) rolled up the psychic ability that lets him Overwatch at normal BS. Howling
Hmmm....that might be true, though the opponent would have had to have the psyker doing so inside the vehicle, casting it on himself and his unit inside of the tank in advance, anticipating that his scouts would pop the tank and then charge the unit... At this point I wouldn't even bother attacking the unit knowing that it'd overwatch at full bs AND have a psyker of some sorts (most likely scriptor or something alike) in the unit..... But I'm sure sangunius' chosen wing had his reasons to do so. But I'm sure sangunius' chosen wing had his reasons to do so. Ah, but the magic word was Dominions. So the game had to be against the newly awesome WD Sisters of Battle. My first 40k army by the way so I have a small idea of what he was facing. I would supsect that the Overwatch was deadly due to the sisters Flamers and Heavy Flamers. I am also suspecting the Rhino belonged to a squad of battle sisters. Overwatch with template weapons causes D3 hits, so D3 "sixes to hit" as soon as the charge is declared. That is 2D3 autohits that are S4 and AP5 or half could be even S5 AP4. No wonder the scouts got burned. I strongly believe the role of our Scouts has changed dramatically and using them "as before" equals suicide, but that is for a different topic... And referring to the OP, yes, I believe your opponent was correct - and lucky. Those scouting Dominions in their Immolators are THE best units for that mission you played. The way I read the rules it is indeed that dedicated transports purchased as part of a Fast Attack slot do indeed claim and contest objectives in the Scourge mission. A trickier question, in my oppinion, would be if a Land Raider bought as a dedicated transport for our Wolf Guard would count as scoring in the Heavy Guns Don't Tire mission. Lucien Eilam
You can't Snap Shot with template weapons. Overwatch fire is resolved as Snap Shots. No Overwatch with flamers. Howling
Ah Lucien Eilam, that's not true. I don't have the rulebook on my since i'm at work, but flamers are indeed able to overwatch and they do make 3d auto hits...something called wall of flame if I remember correct... And if it indeed was a unit with lots of flamers...that does explain it...and...ouch ;-P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255708-quick-sixth-ed-faux-pas/#findComment-3111269 Share on other sites
Lucien Eilam
Good call. I wish they'd put all the rules for the same rule in the same place. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255708-quick-sixth-ed-faux-pas/#findComment-3111340 Share on other sites
