ulllyssies0110
So for those of you how use TWC. How many units do you run and how many in each unit? I was thinking of running one w/ four TWC in my 2,000pt list Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255716-thunder-wolf-cav/ Share on other sites
henrywalker
i generally have units of three often with a mounted lord. three to me is a good number, not too expensive but not too small. also give them all storm shields Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255716-thunder-wolf-cav/#findComment-3111213 Share on other sites

Vor
Not played them in 6th (not played 6th yet actually) but in 5th I ran them in a pack of 5, one with a frostblade and shield, the rest with shields. Along with a TWC Lord pimped out and two wolves. Can't see that changing. Well, maybe I'll switch the frostblade for a hammer. Shadow warrior
Hi, I don't know how to equip mine TWC with a wolflord attached to it. The power of the wolflord is to amazing to ignore but I just don't know the number of TWC are good with the Wolflord with TWM. I'm afraid that five models are in each other way but can absorb a punch. three models (including the WL on TWM) will be to few numbers. What do you veteran wolves have to say? Wolf Guard Nostromo
My take, having used them for quite a while in 5th but not yet in my 6th games, is to go for a minimum of 3 and at least 1 storm shield. The easiest option to use effectively seems to be a big single big unit or a couple of mid sized ones (3-4 with less luxuries). Small packs seem to struggle and get picked off quite easily. You'll be glad to here, based on the OP, that consistently my best performing combo involving a character was 4 TWC + Thunderlord with 2 wargear wolves. 2 hard units when split to suit or 1 nasty nasty unit on their own. Not too pricey either in points terms. I would note that leadership is relevant - 4 or less will have to take leadership when they lose just a single model -with the changes to wound allocation, this is now even more of an issue for an otherwise very tough pack. If in doubt, go big. I re-iterate that this is all based on 5th edition and therefore 6th conjecture - I haven't yet used them in the new edition though I have seen them used successively around me at my LGC over the last week. The principles are sound though. Nos Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255716-thunder-wolf-cav/#findComment-3111614 Share on other sites
Guest Drunk Guardian
I would imagine having a Thunderlord is much more important in 6E... particularly with Saga of the Bear. Wound allocation would be incredibly effective with a Thunderlord leading a "Flying V" formation. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
With the nerfing of wound allocation, I would think that five plus the lord is going to be one scary pack. You can leave two or three of them stock to cut down on the cost as well. Make sure you have a weapon with armourbane like a thunderhammer or powerfist (I run a fist), at least one storm shield, and maybe a meltabomb or two. Saga of the Bear is even better now with the whole warlord thing, and as its been said before, protecting your 200 plus point model from dying to a klaw or some likeness is very important. Wolfsbane
I run 3, 2 basic, 1 thunderhammer. Some games a TWlord joins them to total four. I only run one unit and they just slaughter a flank for me usually.
