Blue-Black Power Armour

Recommended Posts

Disclosure: I'm recently doing 28mm after a 6 year break of nothing in particular.

I'm doing a new SM chapter for the new rules, and since they're potential Dark Angels successors, I'd like to do the Termies in a slightly different colour scheme to everyone else. The standard colour is Kaldor under Nuln, with Gehenna/Gryphonne edging. For the Termies, I was thinking of doing a blue-black: how would you guys go about it? I thought maybe a light drybrush of Kaldor with a Nuln wash, but I'm probably wrong.

Cheers!

I'd base with 1:1 Abbaddon Black : Kantor Blue, then dry brush with pure Kantor Blue. Once that's on, then wash with Nuln Oil. Highlight with Altdorf Guard or Alaitoc Blue. Then Glaze with Guilliman Blue.

For the Gold, Gehenna Gold washed with Nuln Oil. Highlight with Gehenna then spot highlight with 1:1 Gehenna Gold and Runefang Steel.

That's bluer than I'm thinking, tbh. I literally just want that kind of midnight blue, where the pitch-black is tinted slightly towards blue rather than grey on the edges. I'd say "like my friend Anna's hair", but that helps no-one but me (we both have jet black hair, but hers has that rather anime tinge of blue).

Hey, I will throw in my two cents. I am not exactly fluent in the new paints yet, but I think a conversion chart can solve that problem. ^_^

1) Prime Black

2) Paint Kantor Blue.

3) Paint Abbaddon Black over armor, except for the edges, where you would normally highlight, leave them Kantor Blue.

This should give you a black with a hint of blue effect. I hope. I haven't used any of the new glazes yet, Guilliman Blue Glaze might be good with this scheme. Or if it is still too blue, wash the blue with the Nuln Oil Wash. Anyway hope this helps!

I'm following you. Then I'd base with 1:1 Abbaddon Black : Kantor Blue, then dry brush with 2:1 Kantor Blue : Abbadon Black. Once that's on, then wash with Nuln Oil. Highlight edges with pure Kantor blue if desired.
