My first game in over 10 years...

Finally got my first taste of 6th ed, not to mention my first game in over 10 years... result? Wiped out to the man with the EC making a heroic last stand on the objective before going down in a hail of bullets.

My opponent was also new to 6th and rusty on 40k in general.

Played 1k pts my BT's vs his Orks.

Used:

Chaplain w/JP attached to 5 man Assault BP/CCW

10 man CC w/EC MG/PF

5 man shooty w/ ML/F

5 Termies CML/HF

Landspeeder w/HB

Vowed AAC

He had:

Boss w/30 boyz

30 more boyz

some trukk with a cannon and another squad that never left it...

Lost half my 10 man CC Squad on his turn 1 ordnance cannon shot...

Aside from killing his Warlord and taking down half of his boyz I didn't do much other than hold out as long as possible.

Things of note:

Chaplain and Assault Squad weathered a full turn and an overwatch worth of big shootas from a 30 strong squad. On turn 3 an observer pointed out he was using the wrong profile and by then we were in CC and it was too late. First CC phase he also used the wrong CC profile so I ended up taking an extra CC attack from each boy... So to sum that up, I lost 4 Assault Marines to over 150 S5 shots and the final Assault Marine to an extra 10 or so S4 attacks that shouldn't have been there.... On the plus side my Artificer Armor equipped Chaplain tied that entire squad up for another 2 turns before finally succumbing to a power klaw.

Not only did I forget to use my Holy Orb of Antioch, but I also forgot to re-roll my misses on the charge...

If it wasn't for taking the extra higher str hits and my own rusty memory, I would most likely have taken that unit of boyz out.

At the end, my EC and what was left of my CC Squad were completely surrounded and went down under a another hail of 100+ shots from 3 different units (using the correct profile this time. lol).

Made a few other mistakes in deployment and tactics, but for my first game in 10+ years I don't feel I did too badly. Since my opponent "misinterpreted" his unit profile... twice... I'm not going to count this one as a loss. ;)

Had more rust in my head than I thought I did, but knocked a lot of it out tonight. I will also be reading every single codex and FAQ so I can catch these "misinterpretations" should they come up again in the future. :)

Welcome back

Yea, my brother and I got our first game of six in this past weekend. We only played 1000 points but it took us about three times as long as normal since we kept looking up every rule to make sure we were doing things right.

Most of the time it was "well this is the way things worked in 5th, does this still work the same in 6th" (5 minutes of page flipping until answer is found).

Overall the new rules seem pretty good but got to get more games in to get the hang of it. We didnt even really consider the FAQs for our armies too much. Got to get our heads around the new rule set first. Going to be a lot of mistakes made for a while.
