Challanges and Fenris Wolves taken as wargear

So I was wondering about a Character who takes Fenris wolves as wargear. Would the wolves come with him into a challenge? They are wargear for the unit so I would think that they would come with him, fighting along with their owner.

They are treated as a seperate unit in close combat, so no, they can't help in a challenge.

Not that I'm doubting you, but where is this found?

Hmm. Well, I am quite certain that the previous version of the FAQ described this. It was quite specific that an Independent Character with Fenrisian Wolves as Wargear, attached to a Pack would count as 3 distinct groups in close combat. The F-Wolves did not act as bodyguard/retinue/meatshields. However, that now appears to have been removed from the 6e FAQ, and I'm going to have to think through the implications of this. Certainly they can be used for Look Out, Sir in regular combat, but perhaps they can also be used as ablative Wounds in Challenges now.

At the least, this should probably go to the Official Rules section. I'd also recommend it go back to GW in eyeslikethunder's letter.

As u did point out it was in the FAQ 5th edition, but it's not in the FAQ 6th edition. As i can see they are puchased as wargear, so they are wargear and can be used.

(But i guess it will be ruled out in the next version of teh FAQ)

Not any more. This phrase has been deleted from the new FAQ.

Here the contradiction of the rule book and codex.

Rule book: For the duration of the challenge, these two models are considered to be in base contact only with each other.

Codex: the wolves are part of equipment of hero and can not exist without him. Now they are likea bolt pistol)

But are separate models. Like tau drones.

As we know, the codex is always more important than book.

Imho, they can be used in the сhallenge.

Damn, between wolves wargear, wolf tooth necklaces and various weapons and sagas GW may be trying to make us Dueling bad asses. Not to mention squad leaders wearing TDA.

And don't forget the PA armored, dual-Plasma Pistol wielding, Mark of the Wolfen Lone Wolf. And seriously, who else should be "dueling basasses" if not Space Wolves? Blood Andels? Grey Knights? Pff. About the only others would be Dark Angels...

wash your mouth out! no one duels better than a space wolf! NO ONE! ;)

And I didn't say they did. :HQ: I said they should be dueling basasses, because for the last 10k years they've been dueling Space Wolves. Although it must really annoy the average Dark Angels player that every Wolf Guard, Lone Wolf, and Wolf Lord can now dual-wield Plasma Pistols without having to be named Cypher...

Now pass me that ale, so I can "wash my mouth out".
