Disruptor_fe404
My bolt shell is a carefully trimmed bullet taken from the Ork ammo belt feed (they come in groups of five, and my Honour Guard use four of them as ammo for auxilliary grenade launchers). And I think the green tint is a result of using warm yellow lighting when you take your photos. The Yak
You Sir are the Business I have really enjoyed looking through your plog. Last time I checked it was in its infancy with just a couple of true scale brothers to its name. Now you have created a wonderful chapter with bags of character. I love them all. PS: Those scouts are the bees knees. May have to give those heads a try myself. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Ya, got a new lamp so hopefully next pics will lose the yellow quality. They're very definitely grey and not green... Thanks, Yak! Yeah I hope to do the rest of the scout squad justice. In the middle of finishing off a detachment of Guard allies (around 750pts) then it's on to finishing up my 2k list of Sons of Tyr. Yet to build: two squads of Long Fangs (Veteran Devastators), 3 more sniper scouts and a Land Raider Redeemer. Then I can call that detachment finished. Got plans for a First Brotherhood list after that led by Alric Vanatyr, with a copious amount of Terminators, and further down the line an entire army of Myrmidons (thinking of running then as a BA Death Company list, should be fun as a table-or-die playstyle ) Also planning to rework the Index Astartes over the next few days. They've been changed from Raven Guard heritage, to White Scar heritage, to mixed geneseed from both founding Chapters now. I'm looking forward to rewriting the IA to represent this. Disruptor_fe404
I'm looking forward to your Terminator detachment already... I'll be rocking a Terminator list too, after I've playtested it some when Dark Angels hits. Talyn
looks like someones anvil bill is almost as big as mine! impressive use of parts, rather fond of the left handed marines =) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255976-the-sons-of-tyr/page/3/#findComment-3267709 Share on other sites
BrotherCaptainArkhan
Heh, you'll love this update then. Right, my modelling time recently exploded a bit, as I've taken a few days off from stuff. Squad Executioner's finished assembly (bar base decoration) so here they are, bar some Imperial Guard, which I've posted on my logs over at Dakka/Warseer. Scout Snipers! http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010029_zpsb1a03904.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010028_zps9bede97e.jpg Scout Snipers Missile Launcher! Just don't ask where he got it... http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010030_zpsa42bd061.jpg The whole team, Squad Executioner, ready to shoot stuff and get ninja: http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010031_zps12d11fb4.jpg I reworked Brother-Captain Arkhan. I wasn't happy with his "just strollin'" look previously and decided there's three ways you can make a model stand out from the rest of the force: a) stick 'em onna rock, give them a more dynamic pose, or c) all of the above. I think this works better, still can't say if I'm 100% happy with him. I think he'll paint up pretty well though. Before anyone lambasts me for the tiny specks of paint on his legs - they're gone now. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010025_zpsbcf75415.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010024_zpsa86e8c10.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010023_zps55a49815.jpg The GS work is also a lot smoother than previous miniatures. It's a little discoloured which is what I think has given it a slightly rough look here. Squad Leader of Squad Subjugator (second veteran Devastator squad) and Veteran Charon, whose armament sees him working in concert with Squad Dominator (first veteran Devastator squad). http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010026_zps21f4ec9e.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010027_zps5f062a25.jpg Finally, just to prove that they're grey, NOT green (not that I dislike green, but these guys are grey) here's a shot of Valtyr and Nubator up close. Valtyr's eye looks kinda messed up this close while Nubator still looks mad as all hell at whoever just stole his sweetroll, hehe. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010020_zpsb5a55cf6.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010021_zpsced6046c.jpg Thanks in advance for any feedback - makes a big difference :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255976-the-sons-of-tyr/page/3/#findComment-3267903 Share on other sites
Wolf Lord Fenrir
Mate, these all look superb! I look forward to seeing them in the flesh at Clapham next year. I'll be back with more questions about the conversions and painting after I've spent more time pouring over the pictures........ BrotherCaptainArkhan
Mate, these all look superb! I look forward to seeing them in the flesh at Clapham next year. I'll be back with more questions about the conversions and painting after I've spent more time pouring over the pictures........ Cheers Cheers man. Hopefully they'll look better in the flesh, I have a lot to learn when it comes to taking photos, lol. Although it does make all the faults clearer than ever, which is a good incentive to improve! OK, I've painted exactly two models in the post-Christmas break, but one of them is a big'un... Land Raider Stormbreaker has been attached to the Seventh Brotherhood since the Siege of Nor'korh, a Hrud stronghold razed by the Sons of Tyr in 338.M41. Stormbreaker's flamestorm cannons were emptied of promethium no fewer than six times during the climactic moments of the siege, when the tank was the first vehicle to penetrate the breach in the walls created by the Chapter's Vindicator siege tanks. Stormbreaker and its cargo of Myrmidon Terminators bore the brunt of the Hrud counterattack, before leading their brothers in purging the outer ring of the stronghold's walls of all alien life. Due to the damage sustained by Stormbreaker during the action - eventually immobilised, its hull breached and weapon systems damaged - its machine spirit is believed by the Chapter's Techmarines to hold a particular grudge for Hrud xenotics, and in more recent engagements against this enigmatic race (cf. Seven Gates/Antarax Rift Crusade) it has consistently maintained an outstandingly high kill count outstripping other Land Raiders of its classification. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010058_zps5b57705f.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010059_zpsa739c56a.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010060_zps63bacfb6.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010062_zps9cb9520a.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010063_zps7cca9cf0.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010064_zpse61ebff6.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010065_zpse15be17d.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010066_zps01ea3c45.jpg Ludvos Arkhan has captained the Seventh Brotherhood for three decades. Ascending to the rank of Brother-Captain shortly after his return from an extended tour of duty with the Deathwatch, Arkhan brought his experience of combatting the Xenos to bear in the Chapter's involvement in the Antarax Rift Crusade against a Hrud migration throughout Segmentum Obscurus. Utilising Land Raider Stormbreaker as his personal transport, Arkhan led the Seventh Brotherhood to glory in separate actions at Heimdall Alpha, Tauros Prime and Gamall's World, earning the battle honour Purgator after stripping Sub-Sector Vixes clean of Hrud lifeforms. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010051_zpsb658649a.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010055_zps1ecdf929.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010054_zpsbdab9c8c.jpg And here's a WIP of Squad Dominator, a Veteran Devastator team in the Seventh Brotherhood: http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010067_zpsa2b5ac5c.jpg Aaaand a terrible WiP of Roland Tycho, a Myrmidon Captain (counts-as WG with MOTW) http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1010072_zpse755d459.jpg I also thought I'd post a pic of one of the first Sons of Tyr I converted when I wasn't doing the whole truescale thing. This is the Warden - he was the early inspiration fo the Myrmidons, and may yet see a return one day in the form of an Eleventh Brotherhood force. His pose was the (unconscious) inspiration for my realisation of Ludvos Arkhan. Ignore the unpainted swords and the badly sculpted fur...I just thought it was interesting to see how I'd changed as a hobbyist :tu: http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/P1000110_zps769d1619.jpg C&C on everything - particularly Arkhan and the LR - very welcome! :( Arkhan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255976-the-sons-of-tyr/page/3/#findComment-3276134 Share on other sites

Lachdannan
Really like that captain model. I've always wanted to do a model where they hold the sword the other way. Could we have a pic of that side? Land Raider is looking great as well. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Wow, I haven't updated this for a while. I've been extremely busy with work and training, and that's kept me away from doing a lot of hobby stuff in general, but I've meant to get back on top of things and post more frequent updates. Feedback from this board has been hugely inspirational so far and it's good to keep posting stuff for criticism. I still haven't managed to sort out my photography space and that's principally what's putting me off posting pics, but I snapped some quick ones tonight. I've stopped playing the Sons of Tyr as Space Wolves. I got fed up of them being mistaken for actual Space Wolves painted differently, and going by the way I'm rewriting their IA, it's no longer fitting to their background to use the SW Codex. I'm switching to the regular Codex: Space Marines for now, with heavy IG allies to represent my Brotherhood's involvement in the Antarax Rift Crusade against a Dark Mechanicus enclave in Ultima Segmentum. I'm also shelving most of the army I've posted in the rest of this thread, although I'll still game with it occasionally. Over Christmas I learned some new painting techniques (including wet palette, which I haven't tried out) and I'd like to take a shot at making a small 1000pts Sons of Tyr army painted to my best possible standard. With most of the stuff on the preceding pages I've now reached the point where I look at it and think "I could definitely do better now". I'd like to produce some stuff now which doesn't elicit that reaction for some time! I've compiled the following list of places I need to clean up my work in terms of painting and modelling, listed roughly in terms of priority. I'm sure you'll agree if you've seen my work on the previous pages. Clean up green stuff work. Self-explanatory, the last truescale attempts have been way too messy with leg cuts made in the wrong places. Have bought some professional sculpting tools and am using plasticard now as much as I can, this should go a long way towards solving this. Clean up glue joins - often I swamp areas in glue when attempting to make small joins (normally hand + arm) and the area becomes clogged up when painting. Similarly, thin paints. Will be building a wet palette to do this. Improve area highlighting. Can't really use an airbrush where I live but am looking at different tutorials for working with grey right now. Improve basing work - my bases are a weak spot at the moment. (not really an improvement point) Learn better weathering (red mud + metallic battle damage on power armour). The new list is built around Scouts and Sternguard. I'm miffed that Vanguard are basically a pointless unit to take, as I'd like to load up on them but they're not very useful gamewise, and I have a feeling they might see a lot of reworking in the new Marine 'dex when it materialises (hey, I can hope). I'm also working on a reimagination of Arkhan with the loadout for Vulkan he'Stan, intended to be Arkhan in his later years (as opposed to the version of him in a previous post with a storm shield, when he was still a young Captain). Here's some shots of where I am so far. Please come at me with criticisms, they're always useful. http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/mar-13/P1010088_zps1d840529.jpg http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj598/Mjolnir771/mar-13/P1010108_zps9d2a630b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/255976-the-sons-of-tyr/page/3/#findComment-3318730 Share on other sites

BrotherCaptainArkhan
Thanks. To be honest the silencers are ok, it's the bipods on the scouts which are an absolute pain to assemble and glue on straight. One of Anvil Industries' few products where they could have made it better by cutting down on the number of parts involved, I think. Brother Excedis
I have to say these are quite amazing. Very well done on the proportions, even with some of the abnormal weaponry. I saw something in your post about the extra bits I've seen like the ammo drums and sights coming from Anvil Industries? Is this true?
