Sixestohit
Hey guys, I'm looking at ways to add more needed ap2 to my army and was looking at Honour Guard. These are a unit I never used in 5th, as I never really needed them. The appeal to me at the moment is to take the squad and give it 4 plasma guns and stick it in a razorback. Run it round and cause lots of plasma death. I seem to remember something about bodyguard units and how they have to stay chained to the character that allowed you to buy them, but can't find anything in the 6th BRB to make this the case? I really don't want, say, Astorath stuck with a shooty unit, so would like to know if this is not the case anymore (or indeed never was). Many thanks, James. AGPO
Unless something has changed with the new edition then Honour Guard certainly aren't chained to their character. There have been a few discussions of the merits of plasma and melta guards before, but with the new edition I can see plasma overtaking melta as mech becomes less popular. Ushtarador
Honor Guard is an independent unit, and I will kit some together with jump packs and plasma guns soon :) I think razorbacks aren't worth it, especially since reserves are on 3+ now, you almost surely arrive in turn 2 and can cause lots of plasma death were you most need it. If terminator spam really takes over the meta, this might become an awesome unit.
Sixestohit
That's great thanks! Maybe I won't sell all my razorbacks then! James.
Sixestohit
Hadn't seen your reply when I posted Ushtarador, that's a fair point. I really have to think about anti-terminator a one of my most regular opponents is a wolfwing player. Played them yesterday and they just look stronger than ever! James. Dragonet40k
I'm planning on doing a 5 man HG with 4 PG/JP - They are good against TEQ/MEQ and Vehicle side/Rear armour.
SevenExxes
I just put together 3 plasmagunners and 3 plasma pistol gunslingers (dual pistols) for different Honour Guard set-ups. They're gonna ride with my already made Sanguinary novitiate and Blood Champion. Blood Champions can challenge you know.
Lividjoker
My current honour guard (which I made only just before 6th Edition hit mind you) consists of 4 Vets and the Novitiate. Consisting of a Melta-Gun, Storm Bolter, Chapter Banner, Power Sword and Axe. I was going to use it to escort my count as version of Malakim Phoros around, and with the new rules for rage I'm think about making a second unit with a more CC focus. As if Phoros is wounded he gets rage and so does the unit so that is a hard hitting unit (Phoros himself may get a stat increase cant recall of hand)
