Apothercaries in 6th

Recommended Posts

I honestly think it will settle around how much plasma you see, if you play Draigowing and your opponents are carrying a lot (more?) plasma guns then I'd say it's worth it (or any other AP 1/2 not ID weapons such as some MC CC attacks). Otherwise I'd say it's not worth the points cost against small arms.

Essentially each game your apothecary has got to save you 1 1/2 paladins worth of wounds (and combat potential, but that's hard to measure) which means a minimum of 9 unsaved wounds from AP 1/2 Str <8 weapons.

being able to outright ignore a wound on a 2+ save model is still important.

what people fail to realize is that everythign from one edition to now is STILL viable, it is just going to have to be used either in different ways, or you are going to have to adapt your play style TO the new edition.

improvise, adapt, and overcome!

The GK Apothecary is rather fluffy too as, you know, if you were to commit that many legendary chapter Paladins to a detachment, the Apothecary would most assuredly want to be a part of it...to both keep them alive and rescue their gene-seed should the worst happen. Also, since FNP is not a "save" you might get it against Perils, no?
Agreed, Apothecaries are very fluffy and they're a cool addition to the force, I don't have my book to hand but I think you would get FNP against perils as FNP is explicitly not a save any more. Whether or not they're worth their points though I think depends on what you generally face across the table, but they are by no means a terrible purchase.

Good point on FNP and Perils of the Warp. Since the rule mentioned "save" I believe FNP can be used. If the rule stated in addition "special abilities cannot prevent you from suffering the wound" or something like it could have been different but since it mentions "save", I suppose FNP is ok :P

I had never used Apothecary in 5th, but now I think it's really worth its points, if nothing for the fact that allows Draigo to soak up lascannons, missiles and lances with another 5+ save (and we know Draigo is gonna be in front of the paladin squads most of the time with the new LO'S rules).
