Inquisitors and Divination

Recommended Posts

Official GW model and also a semi-permanent member of one of my Inquisitor's warbands, and purchased specifically as a "just because" acquisition. If that's the case, I reset the counter every time I game... albeit that's not very often at the moment :(

Just a teaser as to why Inquisitorial warbands are cool and provide lots of modeling opportunities.

Behold, the most disgusting unit of shooty Henchmen in 6th

Malleus Inquisitor w/Divination

(55pts)

2 x Jokaero, 3 x Acolytes w/plasma guns, Chimera w/multi-laser+heavy bolter

(167 points)

On Turn 1, you have two twin-linked lascannons. When you close in, you have snap shots with lascannon/multi-melta and the plasma guns. At point-blank (ie 12"), you have a pile of plasma and the two heavy flamers re-rolling to wound. All in an AV12 gunboat.

Template weapons only re-roll to Wound if they're twin-linked. Prescience just re-rolls failed to Hit rolls, so no re-rolling to Wound.

It'll need to be FAQ'd, as the rulebook sets a precedent with twin-link (as the rules for twin-link and 'Prescience' are identical when it comes to ranged weapons). Eh, if its FAQ'd to not affect template weapons, I'm not fussed. Jokaero are only morphing heavy flamers at close range, and even without re-rolls they'll still do a pile of wounds.

No, the re-rolling of Wounds is very specific to the Twin-Linked rule, not to re-rolling Hit roles in general. Anything that's just a re-roll to Hit doesn't confer these bonuses, like master-crafting, preferred enemy, ect. It's the same argument people had when they thought they could master-craft Incinerators or Orbital Strike Relays to re-roll wounds or scatter.
Don't forget the Ordo Xenos Inquisitor. Psyker upgrade, Power Armour and Plasma Syphon comes in at 73pts.

Great for buffing Terminators with Prescience re-rolls, and stops your Terminators being shot at by double tap plasma and plasma pistols.

The Plasma Syphon is now pretty avoidable with pre-measuring though. A smart general can move his plasma wielding models just outside the 12" radius of the Inquisitor, but within range of the Terminators.

Eh, but Xenos Inquisitors aren't as cool as TDA Malleus Inquisitors (extra nemesis hammer and Relentless psycannon, plus he gets T4 from whatever Knight unit you put him in). Plus the syphon doesn't nothing to non-plasma AP2 or to long-range plasma. People probably won't get that close unless its a suicide run anyway (if they're in rapid-fire range they are in charge range usually), so it's of marginal value.

Something to consider; take a Divination Xenos Inquisitor with a conversion beamer, and sit with your plasma cannon servitors in the backfield in a Chimera. Free's up Coteaz to join Purifiers or TDA units, and you can even still take funky nades to annoy people when they charge you.

Still Stops Plasma Pistols (Dual with Gunslinger) and Plasma Gun Double Taps dead. :(

If the unit with plasma weapons has any mobility, it's not that difficult to be within 12" of the models you want to mow down, without being in range of the plasma syphon, as there's no guessing involved with pre-measuring:

I know you can put the guy in front and hope for your Look Out Sir! saves to keep your Inquisitor out of harm's way, but that still leaves you open to flanking and such.
